Introduction
Thank you for buying the Ceratec Veto subwoofer. You
have chosen for a high quality product. For many years it
will be bringing you a lot of joy, playing you favourite
music and movies.
Before connecting and operating the subwoofer, please
read this manual carefully. Should you have any questions
or doubts, please ask your dealer or Ceratec customer
service centre for help:
The Veto subwoofer has been developed for stereo and
home-cinema systems. Ceratec product range also offers
necessary add-ins - centre and rear speakers.
Veto is a high-end subwoofer system. Consequently, it
should be used only with appropriate electronics. Should
you have any questions or doubts in this respect, please do
not hesitate to contact your Ceratec dealer.
Nowadays there is a strong tendency either to substitute
stereo systems with home cinemas or to extend stereo
systems and change it into a home cinema. For your
convenience we provide a brief overview of modern multi-
channel recording standards:
Dolby®ProLogic
Dolby ProLogic processor – included in an amplifier or in a
receiver – transforms the sound for multi-channelling so that the
sound and the picture match. For example, in a movie the sound
follows the motion of an actor or object.
Dolby ProLogic is an analogue technology that can carry several
channels – front, rear, centre and a subwoofer. That is why such a
system is the best choice for a cost effective home cinema of
acceptable quality.
Dolby®Digital
Dolby Digital is a top quality multi-channel technology. Originally
developed for professional cinema theatres, nowadays it
comprises an integral part of best home cinemas.
Unlike Dolby ProLogic, Dolby Digital carries all sound information
digitally, using a separate wire for every channel. When combined
with proper speakers and amplifiers, Dolby Digital provides
natural playback of music, voices and sound effects.
DTS®
DTS is another digital recording format offering multi-channel
sound. Just like with Dolby Digital, information for front and rear
speakers, a centre speaker and a subwoofer is recorded on
separate tracks. DTS processes more refined information than
Dolby Digital and often gets even higher quality ratings. Originally
DTS was also developed for professional cinema use.
The Veto subwoofer is perfectly suitable for digital multi-
channel Dolby Digital and DTS systems. The power-output
of the digital amplifiers meet highest standards.
Operation Principles
Veto by Ceratec is an active subwoofer intended for stereo
and home cinema systems. Unlike conventional models,
veto has an inbuilt high power amplifier that constantly
controls cone excursions. Veto easily reproduces dynamics
of a digital home cinema system.
A major advantage of the active veto subwoofer is its
flexibility to vary reproduction of low frequency range to fit
into any surroundings. Thus, even in difficult acoustic
conditions a perfect balance can be reached.
Unpacking and Damage in Transit
Elaborate workmanship of the veto subwoofer results in its
heavy weight. We take special packaging very seriously and
hence it is crucial to kept it for further transportation and
service.
Please, unpack veto carefully. Always use someone else's
help. Should you find any damage of the subwoofer, please
contact your Ceratec dealer.

Installation
The veto subwoofer reproduces the lowest frequency
range, thus unloading front speakers and increasing system
dynamics.
Human ear cannot locate where the veto frequency range
sound comes from, that is why the subwoofer can be
placed anywhere in the room. At the same time, please
take into account the following optimisation possibilities:
•placing the subwoofer right at the wall or in the
corner can either unnaturally amplify low frequency
reproduction or cause rattling. Please place the
subwoofer at least 10 cm away from walls, avoiding
corners.
•best result is achieved when placing veto in between
the front speakers. This way the subwoofer and the
other speakers will have even frequency ranges.
•veto is an active system. Trouble free functioning of
the inbuilt amplifier requires constant cooling. For
this reason, please do not cover the housing.
Front Grill
Veto’s standard version is provided with a grey grill that
matches the aluminium casing. For individuality other grill
fabric colours are also available. Further information on this
subject is provided in our main catalogue. Your Ceratec
dealer will be happy to give you any advice, as well as help
you with changing the grill.
Assembly
Ceratec products are built to high standards in design,
functionality and workmanship. Traditional incompatibility
of beauty and sound is overcome due to a very elaborate
technology. And we suggest that specially trained qualified
personnel carry out assembly, installation and adjustment.
Personnel at your Ceratec dealer are instructed directly by
Ceratec as to how handling of our new products. Their
competence is beneficial to you as a customer. Only trained
specialists can get the maximum from your system. In this
case cost of the product is in particularly favourable ratio to
the result.
If you decide to do the assembly and installation yourself,
please follow instructions below. When in doubt, please
ask your Ceratec dealer for advice.
Lift the veto subwoofer carefully from the packaging.
Please keep in mind that it is significantly heavier than
other standard models and, therefore, it is advisable to ask
another person for help. Carefully put the subwoofer on a
soft surface upside down.
On the front side of the housing there is a faceplate that
can be pushed outwards. As soon as it is removed, you get
access to connectors and controls.
Then pull the cable through the big opening in the glass
stand and consider the following instructions and
information:
Controls and Connectors
Thanks to its active nature, veto offers many more options
for connection and adjustment than conventional models.
Please read carefully the following paragraphs. Should you
have any doubts, please do not hesitate to ask your Ceratec
dealer for help.

Warnings
BEWARE! In order to prevent electrical shock please do not
open this device. In case of malfunction please seek help
from your Ceratec dealer.
Parts inside the speaker are under high
voltage. Opening it can cause electrical
shock and endangers your life.
This guide contains important operation
information. In order to avoid malfunctions
or damage please follow these instructions.
ON –PROTECT – Power and Overload Indicators (9)
When the veto subwoofer operates under regular conditions, the
blue indicator is on. If an overload is recognised, the indicator
turns red.
LEVEL – Volume Control (1)
With the LEVEL control the veto volume is adjusted. Adjust it in
such a way that the subwoofer and the other speakers of the
system are equally loud and the bass harmoniously blends with
the sound picture.
The volume control normally is in the central position. However,
should the room acoustics require this, the volume can be either
increased or decreased.
The veto subwoofer should be well audible without dominating
the music. A too loud subwoofer causes sound distortions and
roar.
Often there are significant bass volume differences depending on
the CD or DVD. Please check the bass volume with different sound
sources before making the final decision.
If later on the veto subwoofer is placed in a different position in
the room, a new adjustment may be necessary.
LOWPASS – Adjustment of the Cut-off Frequency (5)
LOWPASS control provides an additional opportunity to change
sound characteristics of the veto subwoofer. LOWPASS control
defines the highest frequency that the subwoofer should
reproduce.
The veto subwoofer is optimised for a certain frequency range and
consequently is capable of reproducing such deep bass, mid and
high frequencies being the effective range of the other speakers in
the system.
First, leave the control in its normal position and check the system
with the music tracks containing powerful low-frequency
impulses. At first, change the control position with a wide step.
This way you can determine position for the best sounding effect.
In case higher cut-off frequency in interaction with other speakers
provides better result, you can do fine adjustment by choosing a
position between mid and maximum value. The cut-off frequency
bottom border shall be set the same way to achieve maximum
sound quality.

6
6
Avoid setting the top cut-off frequency above 130 Hz. Otherwise
the location of the subwoofer in the room will be clearly audible
because its performance in this range is perfect. Human ear
cannot locate lower frequencies.
AC VOLTAGE – Mains Voltage Switch (7)
The veto subwoofer can be operated in all countries and is good
both for 110/115 and 220/230 V. Before the first operation, please
make sure that voltage setting is correct for your electricity mains.
BEWARE: Switching can be performed only when the power cable
is disconnected.
If the switch is in "115 V" position and the device is connected to
230 V, irreparable damages will occur!
POWER INPUT – Mains Connection (6)
Insert the supplied power cable into this connector.
Never use other power cables – it is possible that they do not
carry enough current. This can cause malfunctions leading to fire.
Before connecting the cable, please make sure that the voltage
switch is in the correct position (see also AC VOLTAGE).
FUSE –Main Fuse (2)
In the mains socket there is a main fuse as well as a spare fuse.
They may only be replaced with identical fuses! Use of different
fuses voids warranty.
CERALINK – 7-pole Amplifier Connection (for
Bang&Olufsen equipment) (3)
If you have Bang&Olufsen equipment, it can be connected to the
veto subwoofer with the Ceralink cable. Ceralink carries musical
signal and switching on/off operation commands.
PHASE – Phase Switch (8)
For most natural bass reproduction all speakers in the system
should oscillate in the same phase. This can be heard with a great
distinction especially in low frequency range because it is low
frequency that originates from fewer cone excursions
(specification measured in Hertz (Hz) shows the amount of
oscillations per second).
Low frequencies are reproduced mainly by the veto subwoofer.
However, the other speakers also play some sounds of this range.
If cones oscillate in different phases, these frequencies may not be
audible anymore.
For optimum syntonizing of the veto subwoofer and the other
speakers, it is also necessary to adjust the direction of cone
oscillations. First, leave the switch in its normal position and test
the system with music tracks containing powerful low-frequency
impulses. Move the switch to another position and check, which
case provides the best performance.
If the switch is set correctly, reproduction will be homogeneous
and rounded. If the sounding is high or inharmonious, you can
change either place or volume. This adjustment should be made
once before the first operation. However, after veto is moved to a
new place, you may need to readjust.
RCA INPUTS – Amplifier Connection with a Cinch Cable (4)
Connect the veto subwoofer to the subwoofer output of your
amplifier with a cinch cable. This line transfers the signal, as well
as veto automatic switch on/off commands.
If you have a Bang & Olufsen amplifier, we recommend
connecting it through the CERALINK line (see above: CERALINK).
Troubleshooting
Ceratec has laid the foundation for disturbance-free and
maintenance-free operation in both construction and
choice of materials. However under certain circumstances
the following disturbances that are not caused by the
speaker can occur.
•Humming noise. This is usually caused by electricity
mains, and in most cases it can be easily repaired.
Wait till veto switches on, and then unplug all
devices of the stereo or home cinema system from
the net. If one of these devices is responsible for the
interference, please insert its power cable plug into
the socket in the opposite direction. If necessary, do
the same with the veto power cable.
•The subwoofer can switch on automatically when
there is no musical signal. The reason is parasitic
interferences of the acoustic cable (Cinch or CERALINK).
Therefore use high-quality cables only.

In case of interference that you failed to fix on your own
please do not hesitate to ask your Ceratec dealer for
advice.
