A70H-UWS is an automac weather staon that can measure wind speed, wind direcon,
atmospheric pressure, humidity, and temperature; rainfall and solar radiaon oponal. Wind
speed and direcon are measured with ultrasonic waves. The oponal rainfall detecon uses 24G
radar, which can quickly detect rainfall and intensity.

The
instrument does not have any moving parts, needs no maintenance, and no on-site calibraon. In order to get the
most out of your instrument, we recommend you read this manual carefully before installaon.
The instrument can be used with computers, data collectors or other acquision devices that are compable with
the communicaon format provided with the specic instrument you have purchased (RS232 or RS485).

INSTALLATION RECOMMENDATIONS:
The A70H-UWS is suitable for use in a wide range of environments and under normal operang condions does not
require eld calibraon or maintenance. Check regularly to ensure that the unit is not impacted by nearby equipment
that may interfere with operaon including radar or radio transmiers, marine engines, generators, etc. Maintain a
distance of 2m or more from any radar scanner or radio antennas. Use the cables provided with the sensor for
opmum performance. If the cable is cut or not properly connected EMC shielding may be compromised. A ground
loop is not required if the unit is connected according to installaon instrucons. Ensure connuous power supply to
the A70H-UWS to ensure proper operaon.
Avoid installaon near obstacles. Mount on the prevailing wind side of structures whenever possible.
Recommended mounng posion is 10 meters above ground in an open area free from any obstrucons. Open area is
dened as the horizontal distance between the wind sensor and any obstacle being greater than 10 mes the height of

the obstacle. If mounted on a building the sensor should theorecally be installed at a height half again the height of
the building. The length of a horizontal boom shall place the sensor at least twice the diameter/diagonal of the
tower/mast. The boom needs to be mounted on the prevailing wind side of the tower/ mast.
It may not be praccal or realisc to meet these recommendaons. Do what makes sense. As a minimum, try to mount
the sensor at least 10 feet above the highest part of the building and avoid obstacles that may inuence the wind
speed and/or direcon.

LAND (STATIONARY) INSTALLATION:
It is recommended the A70H-UWS be installed on a vercal mast. The sensor itself mounts to the supplied
mounng bracket which can then be aached to a 25 – 50 mm (1” – 2”) mast or pipe with the supplied U-bolts.
ALIGNMENT:
There is a raised arrow indicang North on the sensor, with a corresponding red dot on the underside of the sensor
to aid in posioning. Use a compass during installaon to ensure proper alignment.
For indoor use, the sensor can be installed on any plane to measure wind speed and direcon.
ELECTRICAL CONNECTION:
Align the indent on the wire connector with the ridge in the connector on the base of the sensor. Push in, then screw the outer
protecve sleeve into place. Excessive force should never be used. Finger ghtness is adequate for most applicaons.

MOBILE INSTALLATION:
The North, or red dot posion, should face the forward posion (bow or heading) of the vessel. Ensure the sensor is
mounted on a vercal mast at least 2 meters away from surrounding objects that may disturb or restrict air ow.
CLEANING:
If dust collects on the instrument, it can be lightly brushed with a cloth using so biodegradable loon. Do not use
dissolving reagents or solvents, and carefully clean to avoid scratching the surface of the instrument. Snow or ice
should be gently brushed o. Any hard accumulaon should be allowed to dissolve away through natural
condions. Do Not use hard tools to remove ice or snow.
SERVICE:
The instrument has no moving parts, and does not require roung maintenance. If the sensor is opened or the
safety seal is damaged, any warranty or calibraon service will be voided. If there is any problem with the sensor
contact Comptus for troubleshoong assistance, or a return authorizaon code.

Communicaon parameters: Baud rate: 9600; Data bits: 8; Stop Bits: 1; Parity: Even
When the weather staon receives the correct data frame, it replies with the corresponding content. If there is
an invalid data frame, the weather staon does not reply with any content. No reply is convenient for mulple
weather staons to go with 485 bus networking, avoiding data communicaon conicts.
Note that some parameters are oponal and may not be available on your staon.
Registers start at 0. For example: 03 Funcon code register 1 is 40001 in the actual register.

Conversions
The wind direcon as reported by the weather staon is shown in degrees of azimuth. Provided the
instrument is properly mounted with the North orientaon aligned, the azimuth angles go from 1
degree at just east of north to 359 degrees at just west of north. Use the following table to determine
azimuth angle versus tradional compass points.

The weather staon provides metric units for the temperature and barometric pressure being
measured. Use these conversions to do a quick reality check on the set-up of your weather staon.

Any conguraon changes, such as Command two or Command three must be done aer Command one.
Inputs must be entered within 15 seconds or the sengs mode will automacally close. Aer inputs are
successfully entered, the reset restart will begin aer 15 seconds.
Aer seng the instrument, “Command ve” must be sent to make the instrument so reset before the new
sengs can take eect.
“\r\n” is the carriage return line feed, corresponding to the HEX (0x0D, 0x0A)
