Logging In to Change the
SSID & Wireless Security
The SSID is the broadcast name of your wireless signal
or the name of the connect you will see from a wireless
device. The Security refers to a code assigned to the
wireless signal that must be typed in by any device
wishing to use your wireless internet signal. This protects you from people living close to you from
accessing your Internet (intentionally or unintentionally). This code will only need to be typed once
per device except in cases of long absence or router replacement.
Changing the SSID and Security can only be done from a device physically plugged into an
ethernet port on your Comtrend Broadband Router. If your only device is a smart phone or tablet
with no ethernet connectivity, contact TCC to make SSID and Security changes for you.
If you do have a computer with ethernet access, here is what to do:
1. Connect Your Modem
a. Connect an ethernet cord from any of the numbered ports (1-4) on the back of the Comtrend unit
b. Connect the other end of the ethernet to an ethernet plug in on your computer
c. Make sure the power cord to the Comtrend unit is plugged in and your computer is on
2. Log Into Your Modem
a. On your computer or device, open the browser
(Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome or Safari)
b. In the address bar at the top, type 192.168.0.1 and press the Enter key on the keyboard
c. At the login prompt, type in User Name: admin and Password: tccadsl and click Log In

2. Get To The Wireless Settings
a. From the first screen you see, click the word "Wireless" at the top right.
b. Do not pay attention to any other questions/prompts on the screen.
3. Change the SSID
a. You may wish to change the SSID to your last name or something you can identify. Leaving it
as "TCC" may create confusion/conflict with neighbors using the same router.
b. Click in the SSID box, erase whatever is there and type what you want your SSID to be.
4. Enable Security, Choose Security Code
a. Click the Security Settings link on the left
b. Click the drop-down box for Security Type and choose WPA-PSK
c. Type a security passphrase for your wireless. We recommend using letters and numbers
d. Click the Apply Button when finished. Then click Apply again to save/restart router

Troubleshooting
Restart
If your Comtrend is plugged in correctly and the proper lights are lit up, try unplugging the power
cord and plugging it back in. Then restart your computer to see if that helps. Sometimes a minor
communication "hiccup" can stall communications between a modem and computer.
Restarting both (router first, then computer) usually cures this.
Check lights
The Power and WAN lights should be on for sure. WLAN is lit when you are broadcasting a wireless
signal and lights 1 - 4 represent any devices you have plugged in via ethernet. If the Power or WAN
lights are not on OR are blinking regularly (on-off, not flicker) and you have already restarted the
router, call TCC.
Check other devices
If you have a device that is not connecting to the Internet or the wireless signal, try a different device
(ethernet or wireless) to see if the problem persists. If one device works and the other does not, the
problem will be on/with the non-connecting device and not the router.
Retry viewing available wireless connections, click on your SSID and type the security code (if
applicable) and wait to see what happens. If you see a red "X" or an error, click on it and see if you
can "repair" the connection. Or turn the device off and back on.
If it says no wireless connections available or gives the impression it cannot use wireless, look on
your device for a switch or button or setting which turns the wireless adapter "off". Maybe laptops
have this so you can go "offline" when in a public place.
