Quick Installation in 3 easy steps
1. Cabinet Installation and Power Connection
a. Locate the shelf in a location we good ventilation and maintain an operating temperature of between 15-25
degrees Celsius. We recommend the sys admin/installer attach a unique shelf number label to the front of
the chassis for easy storage unit identification. This shelf number will be used by the sys admin in the first
steps of configuration via the storage units console port once physical installation is complete.
b. The power supplies in the shelf are auto sensing universal voltage (115/230VAC, 50/60Hz) and they come
with IEC connectors. The CED4U15ST shelf is supplied with three power cords for USA power systems.
Other user supplied IEC adapter cords may be required to meet power plug needs outside the USA. Coraid
highly recommends that the SR1521T be connected to an uninterruptable power source (UPS).

c. After connection to an AC power source, press the power switch located on the front panel of the unit and
observe that the units fans are operational. The shelf is now ready for disks to be installed.
2. SATA Disk installation
a. EtherDrive®Storage is designed to accommodate standard 3.5” SATA disk drives. Press the colored
release tab located on the drive tray door to release the drive tray from its locking position and extend the
extraction handle to withdraw the drive tray.

b. (Note: Disk trays are initially supplied with a plastic blank where the disk is installed. This plastic blank also
provides an air flow restriction to slots that are not yet inhabited by disks. Do not remove the plastic blank
until you are ready to install a disk in its place, to maintain proper air flow within the shelf.) Remove the
plastic blank attached to the disk drive tray and install a SATA disk drive in its place using six screws
provided.
c. The disk and tray is now ready to be plugged into its slot in the shelf.
3. Shelf Address Configuration & Network Connection
a. IMPORTANT NOTE: Each shelf sharing a common Ethernet network must have a unique address to
prevent an address conflicting which may disrupt operation of other storage devices on the network
b. Connect a terminal to the serial com port (Com1 settings are 9600 N 1) or KVM ports on the back of the unit.
c. Now refer to the software manual for configuration setup.
d. CED4U15ST EtherDrive®Storage appliances have two Gigabit Ethernet connections on the rear of the
shelf. Use CAT6 Ethernet cable only to connect to a GigE Ethernet switch or directly a Server. Cross over
cables are not required. The SR1521T will auto negotiate the connection speed and cable connection
polarity.
e. If using an Ethernet switch please insure it can support 802.3x (flow control) and jumbo Ethernet frames.
Most modern Ethernet switches support these standards.
f. Install the latest AoE software driver on each Server that will be accessing the EtherDrive Storage. This can
be downloaded from Coraid’s web site at www.coraid.com/support
g. EtherDrive Storage is now ready and accessible by the network connected Servers, equipped with ATA-
over-Ethernet (AoE) drivers. Please consult the Coraid web site www.coraid.com/support for helpful
“HOWTO” information.
