1 GENERAL INFORMATION
1.1 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
This document will familiarize you with the operation of the Digitize SYSTEM 3505 for
processing Monaco BT-2 Alarms/Troubles/Restores. For further information on other
features of the SYSTEM 3505, please refer to the SYSTEM 3505 operators’ manual, PN
00248-0001.
This document is written on the premises that you have disconnected the D-5000 RF Modem
from the Monaco PC and connected the D-5000 to the SYSTEM 3505 via the same serial
connector that was formerly connected to the Monaco PC.
There are two modes of operation for the SYSTEM 3505. Standalone or connected to an
automation system. If the SYSTEM 3505 was installed as part of a regionalization project,
then the system will be set up to process the Monaco BT Alarms and pass them to the
regional communications center (RDC). In this operation, the SYSTEM 3505 will be
ASLEEP but can always be awakened by simply pressing the CLEAR key. When placed in
the sleep mode, the CLEAR key should be blinking its red LED. Press the CLEAR key to
wake SYSTEM 3505. The SYSTEM 3505 will auto Acknowledge its alarms as long as it is
communicating with RDC. The SYSTEM can be left awake or asleep while it is passing its
alarms to the RDC.
Should the data connection between the SYSTEM 3505 and the RDC fail, the SYSTEM
3505 will automatically wake up within approximately 30 seconds, and annunciate the fault
condition and any additional new Alarm, Trouble or Restore conditions. If left alone, the
alarms will process as soon as the data link is restored. If the SYSTEM 3505 was asleep
prior to the link fault, it will go back to sleep when the link restores, providing you did not
press the CLEAR key.
The second mode of operation is to have the operator, located in the same room as the
SYSTEM 3505 Acknowledge the Alarms. The Alarms will still be passed through to the
RDC, but the Alarms will continue to annunciate at the local SYSTEM 3505 until such time
that the ACKNOWLEDGE key is pressed. DO NOT PUT THE SYSTEM 3505 INTO THE
SLEEP MODE IF YOU ARE MONITORING THE ALARMS LOCALY. If this mode is
going to be used for long periods of time, the SLEEP key can be disabled by the service
personnel. Do not leave the unit unattended if you elect to acknowledge the alarms locally at
the SYSTEM 3505. An Unacknowledged Alarm will not report its restoral condition until
such time as the Alarm, or Trouble condition is Acknowledged.

1.2 NEW CONFIGURATION
The Digitize SYSTEM 3505 replaces the Monaco head end PC. The D-5000 unit is then
connected to the Digitize SYSTEM 3505 in place of the PC. The Digitize takes over the day
to day monitoring of the Monaco BT units by communicating with the D-5000. All Alarms,
Troubles and Restoral conditions will be processed by the SYSTEM 3505.
The SYSTEM 3505 unit also allows the user to Add, change or delete BT units, as well as
control the interrogation of any BT. Interrogation of all the BT units can also be initiated by
the SYSTEM 3505
1.3 SOFT KEYS
The SYSTEM 3505 contains user selectable keys referred to as soft keys. The “soft key”
names and functionalities changes based on user input or selection of various functions
within the operation of the SYSTEM 3505. Screen images may show a “soft key” in a
particular location; however the location may vary from unit to unit based on the options
installed.
1.4 ZID VS. ZONE NUMBERS
Your Monaco head end PC processed Alarm conditions using ZID numbers. The Digitize
system processed the Alarms received from the D-5000 based on the existing ZID numbers.
The SYSTEM 3505 appends the ZID number to the BT number when presenting the alarm
condition to the dispatcher. I.e. if a BT reported ZID #123 in alarm, the Digitize account
number for the incident would be XXX-0123, where XXX would be the BT number that
originated the ZID 123 condition. The message contained in the old ZID number is simply
the text message programmed into the SYSTEM 3505 for the alarm or trouble being
activated. The ZID number is always appended to the BT number via a four digit dash
number. If the ZID is only one, two or three digits in length, the SYSTEM 3505 adds
leading zeros to convert the ZID to a four digit number.
When entering the text information for a given ZID into the SYSTEM 3505 user text, you
will create an account number for the desired “BOX” that is the BT number and the
associated ZID number. I.e. 23-098 would represent BT number 23, with associated ZID
umber 98 .
When the BT reports an Alarm, Trouble or Restore condition, the account specific message
for say BT 23-098 would be presented to the dispatcher, as well as the Generic message
which generally provides the BT location information. Thus at the very lease, the dispatcher
would be presented with two “pages” of information. One page for the account specific text
(ZID info) and the other the generic information of where the BT is located, hazards in the
building, and or any other information that may be significant about the structure being
protected by the BT unit. The Generic message can also be used to provide a running
assignment to the building protected by the BT.

Response to Interrogation o a BT with an active Alarm, Trouble and an AC
condition.
Selecting the BT number, then pressing the “Interrogate BT-2” or “Extended Poll BT2#” soft
key will always result in one of three response printouts noted above with the date and time
stamp.
1. If there is no response from the BT-2 unit, the Thermal printer will indicate “Failed to
respond, BT # XXX”.
2. If the BT-2 responds, and all the conditions at the BT-2 are secure, then the printout will
indicate “*** TEST BT-2 #XXX”.
3. If the BT-2 responds, and one or more conditions exist at the BT-2, then the Activity at
the BT-2 will be noted on the printout. The following information is can be reported by
the BT unit. BT has an existing Alarm, Trouble, BAT, AC or Tamper condition.
Although the Monaco system provides the SYSTEM 3505 with an ongoing status of the
condition at the BT panel, you can always interrogate a BT unit to make sure the information
presented at the SYSTEM 3505 is correct.

1.7 DAILY TEST
The Digitize SYSTEM 3505 defaults to initiating a daily test (Interrogation) each day at
08:30. This time can be changed to any desired time within a 24 hour period, or turned OFF.
The adjustment for the desired time can be found via the 1 2 SET menu, selection #2 then
selection #3. Advancing to 00:00 hours will result in a display of XX:XX indicating the auto
test feature is turned OFF. The user can also initiate a daily test at any time. To do so,
simply press the KEY SELECT key above the green AC POWER LED. Look for the soft
key labeled “MONACO DLY TEST”.
You should activate the daily test following either a restart of the SYSTEM 3505, or if the
data line between the SYSTEM 3505 and the Monaco D-5000 has been disconnected for a
period of time.
Whether initiate automatically or manually the following will be printed on activation of a
daily test request.

You can also start a Daily test (Interrogation) at any time by pressing the “KEY SELECT”
on the SYSTEM 3505 front panel. Then press the “MONACO DLY TEST” soft key to start
(or end) an Interrogation session of all the BT units.
1.8 ADD/CHANGE/DELETE BT-2 BOXES
The SYSTEM 3505 adds changes or deletes BT and ZID numbers based on the user text
entered into the SYSTEM 3505 or uploaded from the WIN3505 utility.
To add a BT into the SYSTEM 3505, you need to add a “generic” text message for the
desired BT number. A “generic” text message is one that the account number ends in a “-“.
Thus to add BT #123 into the SYSTEM 3505, simply add a text message for Box 123-.
When you add the BT number, the SYSTEM 3505 requires that you enter a priority level.
While you can select any desired priority level, I.e. Fire, Burg, etc. the SYSTEM 3505 does
not use the priority level of the generic component I.e. BT number.
After adding or deleting the desired BT numbers, please refer to the SET 3 menu selection
for the actual activation or deletion of the BT from the SYSTEM 3505.
1.9 ADD/CHANGE/DELETE ZID numbers
The SYSTEM 3505 adds changes or deletes BT and ZID numbers based on the user text
entered into the SYSTEM 3505 or uploaded from the WIN3505 utility.
The ZID numbers are added to the SYSTEM 3505 by assigning a text message to the proper
BT-ZID account number. This BT-ZID assignment is used by the SYSTEM 3505 to
associate incoming ZID numbers with the BT sending the ZID information. Thus if ZID #
123 is sent by BT #98, then the ZID number would be added to the SYSTEM 3505 by
adding a text message for account 98-0123.
When you add the BT-ZID number combination, the SYSTEM 3505 requires that you enter
a priority level. Select any desired priority level, I.e. Fire, Burg, etc. representing the type of
condition monitored by the BT ZID number, so that the SYSTEM 3505 knows how you want
to process the ZID number.
After adding or deleting the desired BT-ZID numbers, please refer to the SET 3 menu
selection for the actual activation or deletion of the BT-ZID from the SYSTEM 3505.

2 OPERATION
2.1 ZONE DEFINITION (ZID)
The SYSTEM 3505 presented the ZID numbers reported by the BT units as a BT-ZID
number.
Since the BT fault conditions reported by the BT unit does not have an assigned ZID
number, the SYSTEM 3505 assigns an account number to allow processing of this data. The
SYSTEM 3505 will take the BT reporting the condition and add a “phantom” ZID number to
the BT. These include:
Represent a daily test (but is never displayed or printed)
-9992 No response from the BT on interrogation
-9993 BT has a low or missing Battery
-9994 BT has one or more Alarms, previously reported
-9995 BT has one or more Troubles, previously reported
-9996 BT has an AC failure
-9997 BT has a Tamper condition
When these “phantom” BT-ZID accounts are displayed or printed, the SYSTEM 3505 adds a
descriptive message to indicate the nature of the fault. The user can enter a unique text
message, for each desired BT-ZID, but this should not be necessary.
2.2 REPEATER ACCOUNT NUMBERS
If your Monaco system includes repeaters, the repeater faults are reported like any other BT
unit in your system, as the repeater “looks” like any other BT.
When interrogating a BT, the SYSTEM 3505 needs to be aware if the BT being interrogated
is reached via a repeater. Refer to the BT via Repeater section for further information.
2.3 COMMUNICATING via a REPEATER
To advise the SYSTEM 3505 that a BT is communicated to via a repeater, you need to add
the capitol letters “RPTR” in the last four text locations of the BT generic message. I.e. for
BT #123 you would add the RPTR, when adding or changing the text message for account
123-, in the last four character locations of page 1 of the generic message.
