SCA-LE-30-03 (30V, 3A)
The servo amplifier SCA-LE-30-03 is a powerful servo
amplifier for brushed DC motors with an output range up to
75 Watt.
The standard operation mode is
•Speed control with encoder feedback
Additionally integrated operating modes are:
oCurrent control
oI x R control
oDC-Tacho control
oVoltage control
These operating modes are described in the manual SCA-
LS-30-03.
The required operation mode is to be selected with jumpers,
which are accessible externally at any time. This SCA-LE-
30-03 servo amplifier is protected against over current and
overheat. Due to the wide range of power supply voltage
between 11 to 30 V DC the
SCA-LE-30-03 can be used very flexible with different kinds of power supplies. Because of the linear output
stage, no external choke is required. The robust aluminium case has been constructed for different
methods of mounting it, therefore a fast and easy integration is provided. Screw terminals and a durable
controller-design allow a fast and straightforward commissioning.

1. Safety notes
1.1. Skilled personnel
The installation and commissioning have to be done only by skilled personnel.
1.2. Laws
The user has to ensure the correct installation of the servo amplifier and additional equipment
according to valid laws and rules.
1.3. Remove load
For first commissioning the motor should run with free shaft which means without load.
1.4. Additional safety components
Electronic components are not free of failure or damage. Therefore plants have to be installed with
additional device and installation protecting components. A safe and stable state has to be ensured in
the case of damage of some devices, wrong handling, cable disruption and other cases of any kind of
malfunction.

1.5. Repairs
Repairs have to be done only by authorized distributors or at the manufacturer. Unauthorized opening
and improper repairs of the device may cause danger to the user and the plant.
1.6. Danger
Care about having no power supply voltage all around the plant during installation of the device!
Never touch any voltage-carrying components!
1.7. Maximum input voltage
The input power supply voltage must not exceed 30 V DC. Voltages exceeding 30 V or reversed
connection will destroy the unit.
1.8. ESD
Do not touch any of the contacts of the device.
1.9. EMC
The SCA-LE-30-03 corresponds to the EC directives, standards and regulations 89/336/EWG article
10 and appendix 1 (EMV) amended by 92/31/EWG and 93/68/EWG and meet the requirements with
standard EN 61800-3 (1996) if the following directions are observed:
•usage of a zinc plated mounting plate, well connected to earth
•mounting of the drive by usage of toothed washers
•usage of shielded cables to and from the unit
•large area contact of the shielding with zinc plated mounting plate.
•motor housing properly connected to earth
Special requirements have to be considered by the user.

3. Internal Components of this drive
This drive consists mainly of three parts.
•A common housing
•A power stage section which is located on the lower side of the drive
•An encoder to tacho converter section which is located on the upper side of the drive
Both sections have their own PCB and are not connected internally
3.1. Power stage section
Terminal numbers (1) to (14)
The power stage section of this drive is mainly the same than the one which is used in the SCA-LS-30-03.
Therefore also the standard operation modes IxR compensation, Tacho feedback, voltage control and
torque control are still integrated, but not used when operating in encoder feedback mode.
3.2. Encoder to tacho converting section
Terminal numbers (15) to (28)
This unit is mainly the same than used in the encoder to tacho converter unit ASA-PC-24-01

4.2.2. Supervising report Error Out (11)
The error-signal is to show the status of the drive and can be used to provide a feedback signal to
other devices and controls. The open-collector is normally turned off which means the output is
pulled to a positive level by the means of an external resistor. In case of a fault or if the drive is
disabled (input Enable In (14) not connected to an external positive voltage > 11 V) the output is
pulled to GND.
Input voltage range: max. 30 V DC
Load current: < 20 mA

4.2.3. Auxiliary voltage outputs + Reference (9), -Reference (10)
The auxiliary voltage outputs + reference and -reference provide a voltage of +/-3,9 V in reference
to analog GND. Analog GND is on half the level of the power supply voltage. Therefore there is no
direct connection to Power GND or GND Signal. These auxiliary voltage outputs are for connection
with an external potentiometer and must not be connected to any other pin or for any other purpose.

4.2.4. + Motor (1)
4.2.5. -Motor (2)
Outputs for motor connection. When the motor is connected in the right way, it should turn clockwise
at a positive output voltage. Otherwise swap the motor lines to ensure that the motor is running
clockwise at a positive voltage between terminals (1) and (2)
5. Description of inputs and outputs of encoder section, terminals (15)-(28)
In brackets () the terminal number
The main function of the encoder section is to convert a digital input signal provided by an incremental
encoder to an analogue output voltage which can be used as a kind of tacho signal. This artificial
tacho signal is fed back to the power stage section as a speed feedback of the motor system.
Therefore the operating mode of the power section is similar to the operation mode “tacho feedback”.
5.1. Inputs
5.1.1.Gnd (27)
This pin is internally connected to pins (25) and (21)
5.1.2.24 V Opt. In (28)
This input has to be connected to 24 V if a 24V push-pull encoder should be used. For the operation
with 5 V encoders this input must not be connected.

5.1.3. Encoder (15) -(20)
The encoder inputs are to be connected to an incremental encoder with a two, respectively three
channel output. Channel A and B should have an electrical phase shift of 90 degrees. Take care that
channel A is running in front of channel B when turning the motor shaft clockwise. Otherwise the
speed loop is open and speed control is not possible.
It is possible to operate this drive with an encoder with single ended signals of the or with differential
signals or line driver corresponding to the RS 422 standard.
Two channels (A and B) are required, a third channel (I) can be connected but it is not necessary.
This is also valid for the inverted signals (/A, /B, /I)
Operation with 5 V encoder type:
Input voltage range low signal: 0 V ... + 1,7 V
Input voltage range high signal: +3,0V ... +5 V
Operation with 24 V encoder type:
Input voltage range low signal: 0 V ... + 5,5 V
Input voltage range high signal: +13,0V ... +24 V
5.1.4. + Vcc (26)
5.1.5. Power GND (25)
Power supply connector.
The encoder section of this drive has to be connected to DC-Power supply voltage in the range of
11-30 V. It is useful to connect these inputs in parallel directly to the power supply inputs of the power
stage section If a 24V encoder type should be used, the Input 24V Opt. In (28) , has to be connected
to 24V DC. In this case an additional connection of the pin +Vcc (26) is not necessary.
Although this pin (25) is connected internally to the other two Gnd pins (21) and (27), this one Power
GND (25), has to be used for the power supply of the encoder module section because of he current
occurring to feed this subsytem
5.2. Outputs
5.2.1. Auxiliary voltage output Gnd (21)
5.2.2. Auxiliary voltage output + 5V / 100mA (22)
The auxiliary voltage output + 5V / 100mA (22) provides 5V DC, in reference to the auxiliary voltage
output Gnd (21). This voltage can be used for an encoder with an input of 5V.
5.2.3.+ Tacho out (24)
5.2.4. –Tacho out (23)
The encoder module provides an analogue output voltage similar to an analogue output voltage of a
tacho. These voltage signals have to be connected directly to the according terminals of the power
stage section.

J12 is responsible for the filtering of the output signal of the encoder/tacho conversion module. If it is
set, the quality of the signal is better but the dynamic range is reduced due to the lowpass response.
Example: resolution 500 counts per revolution (cpr)
nmax = 2520 round per minute (rpm)
maximum frequency: (2520 rpm * 500cpr) / 60 = 21000 Hz = 21 kHz
jumpers 7,8,9 and 10 have to be placed to get the desired signal
