Dear Customer ,
The transport mechanism of The Source Ultimate is
fixed with three screws to prevent it for damage in
transport.
Two of these security screws are at the bottom side
of the CD Player and one is mounted under the
CD lid, directly on the top side of the transport
mechanism.
These three security screws are marked with a red
paint and have to be taken away before starting
The Source.
For transport these three screws have to be fixed
again to prevent The Source Ultimate for damage
in transport. Don`t fix the screws to tight, just hand
tight is fine.
We hope you will enjoy The Source Ultimate for a
long time.

Dear EINSTEIN customer,
With your purchase of the EINSTEIN CD player The Source Ultimate you now own an
audio component of the highest mechanical and electrical qualities. In order to
fully appreciate the great benefits of this unit, we kindly ask you to carefully read
these instructions and manual.
The Source Ultimate is a disc player of the highest quality, which emphasizes rele-
vant features over unnecessary gimmicks. Some of these features are:
-A realistic playback quality
-Exemplary reliability
-Simple and intuitive usability
-High value
The EINSTEIN The Source Ultimate disc player is not a component, which sounds
nice, soft or bright. Our goal is to integrate a component into your existing audio
system which minimizes its impact on the musical signal. As a source component a
disc player holds a key position in the playback of a CD. No world-class down-
stream component is capable of correcting errors which occur at the source of the
musical signal. Incorporating The Source Ultimate as your source component of
highest qualities was therefore the right choice.
We wish you many hours of happy listening with your EINSTEIN The Source Ultimate
disc player.
Regards from Bochum,
Volker Bohlmeier

3. Technical information
For mechanical reasons we utilize a top loading disc mechanism, which in con-
junction with carefully applied vibration controls, is decoupled from the main
chassis. We utilize a 24-bit digital to analog converter with a passive analog filter
and a powerful low impedance tube output stage. Both the digital and analog
sections have separate power supplies.
4. Placement
When selecting a placement for your disc player, please consider proper ventila-
tion of the unit as well as a solid platform for the unit to be placed on. The Source
should never be placed on top of other components nor should other compo-
nents be placed on top of it. Separately available equipment racks can positively
affect the sound quality of your new disc player.
5. Power
The Power supply socket is located at the back of the unit. This connector also
includes the fuse and one spare. Please make sure that the unit is powered off
and not connected to the power outlet prior to exchanging the fuse. 230V/115V
are at the safety clip, EXTREME SHOCK HAZARD!
Attention: the disc mechanism of the EINSTEIN The Source Ultimtae disc player is
secured via three screws which are in place during transportation. Two of these
are located at the bottom of the unit, the remaining one is in the disc mechanism
section. These red colored screws are to be removed prior to disc playback!
Likewise, the screws must be put back in place prior to the unit being shipped or
moved in order to avoid damage to the disc mechanism. Please fasten these
screws “hand-tight”.

6. Connecting your EINSTEIN The Source Ultimate
Prior to disc playback, please make sure the unit is connected properly to your
amplifier via either the RCA or XLR connectors located at the back of the unit. If
possible connect a ground cable between the disc player and your amplifier’s
ground pin. In case you are using balanced XLR connectors, please note the fol-
lowing pin layout:
Pin 1 –Ground
Pin 2 - + (positive)
Pin 3 - - (negative)
If you plan on using The Source Ultimate as a digital source only, you may connect
your outboard D/A converter via a 75Ohm digital cable on the S/PDIF output at
the back of the unit
7. Power switch
To power the unit on / off, please use the power switch located at the back of the
unit. The blue display and lighting of the tubes will indicate the unit’s power status.
The player is typically ready to play within 3 minutes. The unit will achieve its opti-
mum sound and operating temperature within approximately 30 minutes of op-
eration.
8. Safety fuse
A blown fuse indicates a fault in your player or mains power. Should your unit not
power on after you have replaced the blown fuse please contact your dealer or
EINSTEIN immediately. The fuse is of following value: 0.5A slow-blow for 230-240V
version and 1A slow-blow for 100V or 115- 125V version.
9. Placement of a disc
To play a disc, first open the black acrylic drawer and place the disc on top of the
drive spindle. Next, make sure that you place the supplied disc puck properly on
top, carefully observing that it sits properly on top of the spindle. Pay attention not
to accidentally nick or damage the top of the stainless steel chassis due the mag-
netic effect of the puck.
10. Control from front faceplate
The player’s basic functions can easily be controlled via the two front face plate
mounted knobs. The layout of the knob’s functions is as follows:
Turn left knob counterclockwise = Play/Start
Turn left knob clockwise = Stop
Turn right knob clockwise = Previous Track
Turn right knob counterclockwise = Next Track

11. Remote control
The supplied EINSTEIN system remote control allows all functions of your EINSTEIN
The Source Ultimate disc player at your fingertip. The remote control is divided into
two sections; the top portion contains the alphanumeric keypad. To access two-
digit track numbers, please key the double-digit key first, followed by the single
digit key. The bottom portion of the remote contains the basic disc transport func-
tions coded with standard industry symbols. This section also contains switches for
Scan, Prog (Program), Time, A/B, Shuffle and Repeat. To select a track, simply
press the desired track number, followed by pressing the button marked Play.
Pressing the button marked Prog ads the desired track to the play list. To make a
play list, simply add the desired track numbers, each followed by pressing Prog.
When all titles have been added to the play list, simply press play and enjoy. To
erase the play list, simply select Stop twice.
Scan –plays each track for ten seconds. Pressing the Scan button once more
stops this function.
Selecting the Time function will display the time elapsed since the beginning of the
disc. Pressing Time once again will display the remaining total disc time. To return
to the standard display mode, simply press Time once more.
A/B –pressing this button once sets the beginning repeat marker; pressing it again
sets the ending repeat marker and continues the loop until you press A/B once
more.
To select random playback, simply press the button marked Shuffle. To deselect
random playback press the Shuffle button once more.
Selecting the button marked Repeat will continuously playback the disc from be-
ginning to end.
Pressing the Repeat button twice consecutively enables repeat playback of the
currently playing track, which is indicated by a Repeat 1 symbol in the display.
Pressing the button once again deselects the repeat feature.
12. Tubes
Your The Source Ultimate disc player utilizes 6N30 tubes with a lifecycle of about
3000 hours. In order to maintain the player’s fidelity only the same kind tubes
should be used as replacement, as these have been fully verified and tested by
our lab.
13. Maintenance & Care of The Source Ultimate
Cleaning of all chrome and stainless steel surfaces should only be done with a
damp cloth and a small amount of Windex or similar window cleaner. The laser
diode and all electrical parts of the CD player are highly sensitive and should not
be touched. Further, the laser diode is highly susceptible to dust, thus always close
the black acrylic disc cover. Should your laser diode be dirty please contact your
local dealer / distributor or EINSTEIN directly.
14. Service
