1. General
A. This manual has been prepared to fulfill the requirements of ATA iSpec 2200 for Component
Maintenance Manuals.
B. All procedures established in this manual have been performed and verified acceptable by trained
personnel at B/E Aerospace, Inc. A competent shop mechanic who is unfamiliar with these units
should, with a minimum amount of effort and tools, be able to isolate the problems of a nonfunctional
unit and restore it to service.
C. Procedures are provided for the full range of maintenance and include all the work functions that could
or may be done to the unit throughout its entire service life.
D. A competent shop mechanic should use this manual first to test and isolate a faulty component. The
mechanic should then go directly to the applicable manual subject to effect a repair in the specific
problem area without disturbing other areas.

(1) The MTOSS system uses standard and unique number combinations to identify maintenance
tasks and sub tasks.
(2) The MTOSS structure is a logical approach to organizing maintenance tasks and sub tasks.
(3) The MTOSS numbering system includes ATA chapter-section-subject number as well as a
function code and unique identifiers.
(4) The purpose of the MTOSS numbering system is to provide a means for automated sorting,
retrieval, and management of digitized data.
B. The MTOSS numbering system is an expansion of the ATA three element numbering system. An
MTOSS number has seven elements of which the first five elements are mandatory for each task and
sub task. The sixth and seventh elements are applied when necessary. This CMM incorporates the use
of six of the seven elements. Refer to Figure INTRO-1.
(1) Element numbers 1, 2, and 3. These elements are existing ATA numbers:
(a) Element number 1: Chapter
(b) Element number 2: Section
(c) Element number 3: Subject
(2) Element number 4. The fourth element numerically defines the maintenance function being
performed.
(3) Element number 5. The fifth element is provided to create unique numbers for all tasks or sub
tasks that are similarly numbered through the first four elements.
(a) Tasks are numbered from 801 - 999.
(b) Sub tasks are numbered from 001 - 800.
(4) Element number 6. The sixth element is a three position alphanumeric number that allows for
identification of differences in configurations, methods, and techniques, variations of standard
practice applications, etc.
(a) Most tasks in this CMM will use A01 as the sixth element. This indicates that the task
applies to all configurations with no variation.
(b) If an S01 is used as the sixth element, it will indicate that a service bulletin applies to the
task.
(5) Element number 7. The seventh element is a three position alphanumeric number reserved for
customer use.
