can rate its level of difficulty and how much you enjoyed it, and

home screen and place the cursor
next to “RECIPE,” pressing NEXT
will take you to your saved list of
favorite recipes.
PREVIOUS:Pressing this button
usually returns you to the previ-
ous screen. Press this key also to
exit a current mode such as ABC
mode. (Recipe Master shuts off
automatically if no button is
pushed for 10 minutes. When you
turn Recipe Master back on, it
will return you to the point where
you last left off. To start a new
search, simply hold down PREVI-
OUS for two seconds to return to
the home menu. An icon of a
house will appear in the upper
right corner of your display.)
REMOVE:Press this key to erase
information you have saved.
RESET:If Recipe Master locks up
or malfunctions, use a ballpoint
pen to press RESET, located on the
back. Also press RESET after
inserting new batteries.

Functions of Buttons
Recipe Master’s buttons are easy
to use.
ON/ENTER:Press this key to turn
on Recipe Master or to confirm a
selection after you have scrolled
to it.
SAVE:Press this key to save a
recipe to “favorites.” (You can
store up to 25 recipe names in
memory.) Also press this key to
save the ingredients of a recipe to
your shopping list.
ABC:Press this key to scroll
through a list quickly using the UP
or DOWN buttons, jumping from
one alphabetical first letter to the
next. (An “ABC”icon will appear
on the upper right of the screen.)
Press ABC a second time to turn
this feature off.
UP:Press this key to scroll up.
Installing or Changing Batteries
The New York Times Recipe
Master requires 2 AAA batteries.
Be sure to review “Battery
Information” on page 22.
Carefully turn the unit over so
that the top side is face-down on a
soft surface, such as a towel or
magazine. You’ll find the battery
compartment on the unit’s back.
Use a small Phillips screwdriver
to remove the screw. Lift off the
battery compartment lid. Install 2
AAA batteries, making sure to
match the polarity (+ and -) with
the diagram inside the battery
compartment. (See diagram
below.) Place the battery com-
partment lid’s tabs in their slots
and snap the compartment door
back on. Replace the screw and
gently tighten it.

time. Therefore “ACORN SQUASH
WITH PEAS”will not all appear on
the LCD at once. Instead the line
of text will automatically scroll
right to left when you place the
marking arrow next to that line.
To control the speed with which
the line scrolls, see SET UP on
page 19.
Press the UP or DOWN key repeat-
edly to scroll through the index
one line at a time, or hold either of
these keys down to scroll more
quickly. If you'd like to scroll
alphabetically by first letter
through the index, first press the
ABC button. The “ABC”icon will
then appear on the screen. (See
Using the ABC Button, page 8)
Then press UP or DOWN to move
alphabetically by first letter
through the index. When you
reach the initial letter you want,
press ABC again to exit that mode.
Then resume using the UP or
DOWN keys to scroll through the
list item by item.
In the previous diagram, the left
arrow is positioned so that “DUCK”
will be selected if you press the
ON/ENTER key. The number 11 at
the top of the diagram indicates to
you that Recipe Master includes
11 different entries for preparing
duck. If you press ON/ENTER to
confirm your choice of duck, the
LCD will display the subindex
under “DUCK,” indicating all 11
entries. For example, you’ll see
the following:

Press UP or DOWN to scroll
through this subindex, and press
ON/ENTER to make a selection. If
you choose “RED-COOKED,” the
LCD will then show the following

After inserting new batteries,
press the RESET on the back of
Recipe Master, and then press
ON/ENTER to turn the unit on.
Your LCD will display the icon
“NEW YORK TIMES RECIPE MAS-
TER.” Press any key to proceed to
the home menu. (An icon of a
house will appear in the top right
corner of your screen.)
The home menu gives you seven
choices, but Recipe Master can
show only six lines of text at a
time on the LCD. The home menu
looks like this:

Press the UP or DOWN key to scroll
through all of the choices. As you
scroll, an arrow on the left marks
your position in the list. Press the
UP or DOWN key repeatedly if you
want to scroll one line at a time,
or hold one of those keys down if
you prefer to move through the
entire list quickly. After scrolling
to a desired item, simply press
ON/ENTER to confirm your choice.
Then use the UP or DOWN arrow
keys to page down or up through
the text.
—SEARCHING FOR A RECIPE—
To search for a recipe, select
RECIPE from the home menu by
scrolling to it and then pressing
ON/ENTER. The LCD will display
a new menu:

This menu shows you that there
are four ways to search for a
recipe—by index, category, rating
or level of difficulty. See below
for more information on each of
these methods.
Searching by index
The first way to find a recipe is to
search the main index. To do this,
press the UP or DOWN key to place
the arrow next to INDEX, and then
press ON/ENTER to confirm your

INGREDIENTS, PREPARATION, NOTE,
RATE or YIELD INFORMATION”will
not all be displayed if a particular
recipe does not contain this type
of data.)
Note that after you have selected
a recipe and confirmed your
choice by pressing ON/ENTER, the
recipe's “YIELD INFORMATION”
appears at the top of the screen if
applicable. (See Following an
Instruction Menu, page 11.)
—USING THE ABC BUTTON—
If you'd like to jump through an
alphabetical list quickly by first
letter, press ABC. The “ABC”icon
will appear at the top right of the
screen. Then use the UP or DOWN
buttons to proceed through the list
by alphabetical first letter—A, B,
C, etc. (Note that the list begins
again with the letter “A” after you
have scrolled through the “Z” list-
ings. You can also use the UP key
to scroll backwards through the
alphabet, from “Z” to “A.”)
When you reach the desired initial
letter, press ABC again to turn this
mode off. Then press the UP or
DOWN key to scroll one line at a
time, or hold either of these keys
down to scroll quickly. Press
ON/ENTER to confirm your choice.
Searching for a recipe by
category
After selecting RECIPE from the
home menu, you can choose to
use the list of CATEGORIES for find-
ing a recipe rather than searching
through the INDEX. Press the UP or
DOWN keys to scroll to CATEGORY,
and press ON/ENTER. The cate-
gories will then be displayed in
alphabetical order.

In the diagram above, the arrow is
shown marking APPETIZERS. The
number 65 at the top indicates
that you will find 65 entries if you
select APPETIZERS. (Press UP or
DOWN to scroll through the cate-
gories, and press ON/ENTER to
confirm your choice.)
If you select APPETIZERS, the LCD
will display, in alphabetical order,
all the recipes categorized as
appetizers. For example, the fol-
lowing screen may appear:

Scroll through the recipe choices
by using the UP or DOWN key.
Then make your selection by
pressing ON/ENTER. The LCD will
next display an instruction menu
indicating some or all of the fol-
lowing choices: “ANECDOTE,
ASSEMBLY, INGREDIENTS, PREPA-
RATION, NOTE, RATE or DIFFICUL-
TY.” (See Following an
Instruction Menu, page 11.)
Searching for a recipe by rating
In addition to choosing a recipe
by using INDEX or CATEGORY, you
can instead choose to view
recipes you have previously
assigned a rating to. The ratings
are based on how much you
enjoyed the recipe you made—
ok, good or excellent. (See page
14 for information on how to rate
recipes.) Of course, if you are just
beginning to use your Recipe
Master, you will not yet have
saved any recipe by RATING. In
that case, if you select RATING, the
LCD will simply display “NO
DATA” for two seconds and then
return to the previous screen.
To search for a recipe by rating,
first select RECIPE on the home
menu, and then choose RATING.
The LCD might display the fol-
lowing, for example:

Regardless which of the four
available methods above you used
to search for a recipe, once you
have chosen a recipe you will see
an “instruction menu” on the
LCD. That menu varies according
to recipe, but may contain some
or all of the following for you to
select from: ANECDOTE, ASSEMBLY,
INGREDIENTS, PREPARATION, NOTE,
RATE or DIFFICULTY. Use the UP or
DOWN key to scroll through this
list of choices, and press
ON/ENTER to make your selection.
Anecdote
If the recipe you have chosen con-
tains an ANECDOTE, you can select
ANECDOTE to have it displayed on
the LCD, six lines of text at a
time. For example, you might see
the following six lines of informa-
tion:
RED-COOKED
FOODS IN

CUISINE ARE
SIMMERED IN
DARK SOY
Then, each time you press the UP
or DOWN key, six more lines of
text will be displayed until you
come to the end of the anecdote.
Press PREVIOUS to return to the
instruction menu.
Assembly
If a recipe contains ASSEMBLY
information, you will see ASSEM-
BLY listed on your menu after
you've selected the recipe. (Be
sure to read the details of ASSEM-
BLY first. They contain important
information) Use the UP or DOWN
keys to scroll to ASSEMBLY, and
then press ON/ENTER.

(In this example, the arrow is
marking the “GOOD”category, and
the number 150 indicates you
have already assigned 150 recipes
the rating of GOOD.) Press UP or
DOWN to move through the ratings
and then press ON/ENTER to con-
firm your choice of rating. The
recipes you had previously
assigned that particular rating to
will next be displayed on the LCD
in alphabetical order.
If you select one of the recipes
from that list, you will then move
to the instruction menu presenting
some or all of the following:
ANECDOTE, ASSEMBLY, INGREDI-
ENTS, PREPARATION, NOTE, RATE or
DIFFICULTY. (See Following an
Instruction Menu below.)
Searching for a recipe by level
of difficulty
In addition to searching for a
recipe by using INDEX, CATEGORY
or RATING, you can also choose to
view recipes you have previously
saved according to the level of
difficulty you assigned each of
them. The ratings are based on
how difficult you found the recipe
to be when you made it before—
easy, moderate or difficult. (See
page 15 for assigning recipes a
level of difficulty.)
Of course, if you are just begin-
ning to use your Recipe Master,
you will not yet have saved any
recipe according to DIFFICULTY
level. In that case, if you select
DIFFICULTY, the LCD will simply
display “NO DATA” for two sec-
onds and then return to the previ-
ous screen.
To search for a recipe by level of
difficulty, first select RECIPE on
the home menu, and then choose
DIFFICULTY. The LCD will display
the following:

Six lines of information about
ingredients can be shown at one
time on Recipe Master's LCD.
Each ingredient is given a line of
its own, and units of measurement
have been abbreviated. (See
MEASURING for measurement
abbreviations.)
Use the UP or DOWN keys to place
the arrow next to a line of text,
and then read the information as it
scrolls from right to left. (See
SET UP to adjust the scrolling
speed.)
Note: If you'd like to save the
ingredients for a recipe to your
Recipe Master’s shopping list,
when you have the ingredients on
screen, press SAVE to save all the
ingredients to “ENTIRE RECIPES”
under “SHOPPING LIST.” (See page
15.) The LCD will then display:

After you save ingredients to your
shopping list, Recipe Master will
return you to the list of ingredi-
ents. (If you'd like to return to the

into two or more parts, such as the
recipe “BEAN SOUP WITH BASIL
SAUCE,” after you first select
INGREDIENTS, the LCD presents
you with an additional choice. For

Use UP or DOWN to scroll, and
then press ON/ENTER to select PIS-
TOU if you want to view the ingre-
dients necessary for the pistou,
and select SOUP to see which
ingredients are needed for the
soup. If you are saving the ingre-
dients to your shopping list, you
don't need to save both lists. Just
save either list of ingredients and
the other list of ingredients will
then also be saved. (However, be
sure to save any additional ingre-
dients which might be listed for a
recipe under ASSEMBLY if a recipe
includes an assembly.)
Preparation
After first viewing any steps of
ASSEMBLY listed for a recipe (see
above), press UP or DOWN to scroll
through an instruction menu, and
Remember to look at the ASSEM-
BLY information before starting to
prepare a recipe, because you’ll
find essential information includ-
ed here. For example, the recipe
for Visidantine Almond Tart lists
the ingredients and steps to follow
for making the tart's pastry shell
under ASSEMBLY. (You will need
to have made the pastry shell
before continuing with the rest of
the recipe.)
After you select ASSEMBLY and
confirm your choice by pressing
ON/ENTER, a submenu will appear
on your LCD. Press the UP or
DOWN key to scroll to INGREDI-
ENTS and press ON/ENTER to con-
firm your choice. This will let you
see what ingredients are needed
for this part of the overall recipe.
If you are scrolling through the
ASSEMBLY menu of the Visidantine
Almond Tart recipe as in the
example above, you can also
select PREPARATION to scroll
through the steps of preparation
for the tart shell. (Each line on
the screen will show the begin-
ning of a step. Use the UP or
DOWN key to place your arrow
next to a step, and then press
ON/ENTER to read the details of
the step. Press the DOWN key to
advance through a step six lines at
a time. Note: if you press NEXT,
you will go to the next step, and if
you hold down the UP key and
then press NEXT, you will return
to the previous step.)
Ingredients
From an instruction menu, to
view the list of INGREDIENTS for a
recipe you have selected, use the
UP or DOWN key to scroll to
INGREDIENTS and then press
ON/ENTER to confirm. For exam-
ple, you might see the following
list of ingredients (but keep in
mind that only 11 characters can
actually appear per line at one
time):

ON/ENTER to confirm your rating.
Your LCD will flash a confirming
“SAVED!” Recipe Master will go
back to the instruction menu list-
ing ASSEMBLY, PREPARATION, etc.
Refer to page 9 to see how to
review your saved ratings.
Recipes will be categorized as NO
RATING (for recipes you didn’t
like), OK, GOOD or EXCELLENT,
according to how much you indi-
cated you enjoyed the recipe.
Level of Difficulty
After you have prepared a recipe,
you may want to record how easy
or difficult you found the prepara-
tion to be. Your rating of the diffi-
culty level will be saved so that
you can refer to it in the future.
To assign a level of difficulty to a
recipe, first use one of the search
methods outlined in this manual
to select that recipe. Then use the
UP or DOWN key to scroll to DIFFI-
CULT, which you'll find listed on
the instruction menu, and press
ON/ENTER to confirm your choice.
Next choose from the following
options, depending on the diffi-
culty of the recipe:
A. EASY
B. MODERATE
C. DIFFICULT
Scroll and then press ON/ENTER to
confirm your choice of the diffi-
culty level.
The recipe will then be catego-
rized according to one of the three
levels of difficulty for your refer-
ence later. After you have pressed
ON/ENTER to confirm the level,
your LCD will flash a confirming
“SAVED!” Then Recipe Master
will automatically return to the
instruction menu listing ASSEM-
BLY, PREPARATION, etc.
—SHOPPING LIST—
One of the great features of
Recipe Master is its SHOPPING LIST
function. You can add individual
grocery items to the list as you
notice you need them, as well as
save all the ingredients from
recipes of your choice to that list.
To save an individual grocery
item, select SHOPPING LIST from
the home menu, and then select
ADD. Your LCD will then display:
then press ON/ENTER to select
PREPARATION. You’ll want to
review the procedure to be fol-
lowed in preparing a recipe. The
preparation will be displayed in
steps, and the beginning of each
step is displayed on its own line,
showing the first 11 characters of
each step. Press UP or DOWN to
scroll to one of the steps, and then
press ON/ENTER to confirm. Six
lines of information about that
particular step will then be dis-
played. At this point, each time
you press the UP or DOWN key,
you will see another six lines of
information. (Pressing NEXT will
take you into the next step in turn.
Press PREVIOUS to return to the
list of steps. Hold the UP key and
then press the NEXT key to return
to the last step.)
Notes
If a recipe’s instruction menu
also contains a note, NOTE will be
indicated on the menu after you
have chosen a recipe. In that case,
to read the note, simply scroll to
NOTE by pressing UP or DOWN, and
then press ON/ENTER to view the
details. While you are reading the
note, each additional press of the
UP or DOWN key will display
another six lines of text until you
have reached the end of the note.
Or you may press NEXT to
advance through the text as well.
To return to the instruction menu,
press PREVIOUS.
Rating a recipe
After you have prepared a recipe,
you may want to record how
much you liked the results of your
effort. Your rating will be saved
so that you can refer to it later.
To rate a recipe, first use one of
the search methods outlined in
this manual to select that recipe.
Then use the UP or DOWN key to
scroll to RATE, which is listed on
the instruction menu, and press
ON/ENTER to confirm your choice.
Next choose from the following
options to indicate the likelihood
of your making the recipe again
based on how much you enjoyed
it the first time:
A. NO
B. MAYBE
C. PROBABLY ... IT’S GOOD
D. ABSOLUTELY ... I LOVED IT.

the case, don't forget to save any
ingredients listed under ASSEMBLY
to your shopping list as well!
—MEASURING—
From the Home Menu you can
also choose MEASURING. The LCD
will then display:

Abbreviations
Select ABBREVIATIONS to see the
common abbreviations used in
cooking. “ABBR”will appear at
the top of the screen. Only one
abbreviation is displayed on the
screen at a time. Press the UP or
DOWN key to see more abbrevia-
tions.
Equivalents
If you'd like to see a listing of
equivalencies, scroll to EQUIVA-
LENTS and press ON/ENTER.
EQUIVALENTS will then appear at
the top of the screen, along with
the first equivalent, 1 TSP = 1/6 FL
OZ. Press the UP or DOWN key to
view the remaining list of equiva-
lents.
Rough Equivalents
Recipe Master also offers a listing
of ROUGH EQUIVALENTS to help
you. If you select ROUGH EQUIVA-
LENTS, the following appears on
your screen:

If an item needs two or more
entire screens to be displayed,
each time you push the UP or
DOWN keys, another six lines of
text will appear. Pressing NEXT
will go to the next item. Hold the
UP key and then press NEXT to
return to the previous item.
Oven Temperatures
You also have the option of
selecting OVEN TEMPERATURES.
This option lists for you the
Fahrenheit and Celsius tempera-
tures which correspond to baking
terms such as “very slow oven.”
Press the UP or DOWN key to scroll
through the list.
BY NAME
BY CATEGORY
Selecting ADD will result in two
choices, BY NAME and BY CATEGO-
RY. If you select BY NAME, you
will then see an alphabetical list
of grocery items to choose from.
(Use the ABC key to scroll through
the list quickly.) Move your cur-
sor to the desired item, and then
press SAVE. The screen will flash
“SAVED TO INDIVIDUAL ITEMS!” and
then return to the list.
Or you may prefer to search for
grocery items organized BY CATE-
GORY. First select BY CATEGORY,
followed by the desired category,
BAKING SUPPLIES, for example.
Then scroll through the items list-
ed under that category until your
cursor is next to the desired item,
and press SAVE. The screen will
flash “SAVED TO INDIVIDUAL
ITEMS!” and then return to the list
of items in that category. Pressing
PREVIOUS will return you to the
previous screen. Press PREVIOUS
repeatedly to return to the home
menu.
If you'd like to save the ingredi-
ents of a recipe to your shopping
list, simply press SAVE when you
have the list of ingredients on the
screen in the RECIPE mode. All the
ingredients for that recipe will
then be saved under SHOPPING
LIST, ENTIRE RECIPES. (See note
below for the exception of ingre-
dients listed in ASSEMBLY.)
And remember, if there are two or
more parts to a recipe's ingredi-
ents, (see page 13), such as the
ingredients of the recipe “BEAN
SOUP WITH BASIL SAUCE,” after you
select INGREDIENTS, the LCD indi-
cates both parts of the recipe:
THE PISTOU
THE SOUP
In this case, if you select PISTOU
you will see the ingredients for
the pistou, and if you select SOUP
you'll see the ingredients for the
soup. When viewing either of the
lists of ingredients, press save to
save all ingredients to ENTIRE
RECIPES under SHOPPING LIST. The
other list of ingredients will also
be saved for you.
NOTE: one additional, very
important point. Some recipes
also have an ASSEMBLY indicated

When the countdown time is over,
the four digits will show again as
00:00, the LCD will display “TIME
OUT”and Recipe Master will beep
for 30 seconds. Press any key to
turn off the beep. If no key is
pressed, the alarm will sound
every five minutes for up to an
hour and the words “TIME OUT”
will reappear each time on the
screen.

Scroll through the alphabetical
list of words by pressing the UP or
DOWN key. (Hold down the UP or
DOWN key to move quickly
through the list of terms alphabet-
ically, or use the ABC function to
move more quickly through the
list by alphabetical first letter.)
When you find the word you'd
like to have defined, press the
ON/ENTER key to confirm your
choice. Six lines of explanation
will be shown. Press the UP or
DOWN key or NEXT to advance
through the text six lines at a time.
Press PREVIOUS to return to the
alphabetical list of terms.
—SET UP—
Select SET UP from the home
menu to make choices about the
sound and scrolling speed. Press
the UP or DOWN key to scroll to
SOUND or SCROLL SPEED and
then press the ON/ENTER key to
confirm. If you choose SOUND,
press the UP or DOWN key to scroll
to either SOUND ON or SOUND
OFF. Press ON/ENTER to confirm
your choice and return to the pre-
vious screen. If you choose
SCROLL SPEED, press the UP or
DOWN key to place the cursor next
to the speed (1-6) at which the
text will scroll. Press ON/ENTER to
confirm your selection and to
return to the previous screen.
—SAVING A RECIPE TO
FAVORITES—
You can also store from one to 25
recipes in a list of favorites for
easy reference. From the home
menu, select RECIPE and press
ON/ENTER. Find the recipe of your
choice and again press ON/ENTER.
(The instruction menu for that
recipe will appear.) Next press
Conversion
If you'd like to find out how to
convert between Fahrenheit and
Celsius, or check the metric
equivalent of a US measurement
or vice versa, select CONVERSION
and press ON/ENTER. Then press
the UP or DOWN key to scroll
through the following choices:
TEMPERATURE, U.S. TO METRIC and
METRIC TO U.S. Press ON/ENTER to
confirm your choice.
If you choose TEMPERATURE, the
screen will display the formula
for converting FAHRENHEIT to CEL-
SIUS. Press the DOWN key to dis-
play the formula for CELSIUS to
FAHRENHEIT. (Press the UP key to
page upward.)
If you select U.S. TO METRIC or
METRIC TO U.S. you can scroll
through a list of conversions by
using the UP or DOWN key. Press
PREVIOUS to return to the CONVER-
SION menu, or continue to press
PREVIOUS to return to an earlier
screen or home menu.
—TIMER—
You can set Recipe Master to
remind you to do something at a
later time, such as check on some-
thing in the oven. Select TIMER
from the home menu to set up a
countdown time. The icon of
“00:00”(hh:mm) will show on
the LCD, and the cursor under the
first digit of the hours will flash.
Press the UP or DOWN key to
choose a number between 0 and 9,
and then press NEXT. The cursor
appears under the next hour digit
and will then flash, and again you
should use the UP or DOWN key to
choose a number between 0 and 9.
Then the cursor appears under the
first digit of the minutes and will
flash. Use the UP or DOWN arrow
to select a number between 0 and
9 and press NEXT. Do the same for
the remaining digit. After you
press ON/ENTER, the countdown
time will start immediately. The
screen will return to the home
menu and “TIMER ON”will appear
at the top of the screen to the
right.
To turn the timer off, choose
TIMER from the home menu and
press ON/ENTER. Then press
REMOVE to turn the function off.

menu and “TIMER ON”will no

a recipe saved to RATING or DIFFI-
CULTY in the RECIPE mode. Also
use the REMOVE key to delete all
ingredients of a recipe saved to
ENTIRE RECIPES, or to delete an
individual grocery item from
INDIVIDUAL ITEMS.
To remove an item, when viewing
the alphabetical list of saved
recipes or the list of grocery
items, place the cursor next to the
recipe or the grocery item you
want to delete and then press
REMOVE. The saved recipe or gro-
cery item will be deleted from the
corresponding list, and the mes-
sage “DELETED”will appear for
two seconds on the screen. Then
the LCD will return to the previ-
ous screen.
—AUTO POWER OFF—
If no key is pressed for 10 min-
utes, the unit will automatically
turn off in order to spare your bat-
teries. Simply press ON/ENTER
and Recipe Master will return to
the point where it was before it
was turned off.
SAVE.“SAVED TO FAVORITES”will
appear on the screen, and then the
LCD will return to the instruction
menu with the icon “MEM”at the
upper left corner under YIELDS. (If
you change your mind about sav-
ing that recipe at this time, press
SAVE a second time to remove it
from your list of favorites. The
icon “MEM”will disappear.)
Please note that the recipe which
you have saved as a favorite will
always be displayed with the icon
“MEM”on the instruction screen.
To view your list of favorites,
select SAVED [XX] from the home
menu. The message “SAVED”
[NONE] or “SAVED”[X]will be
shown. (The number in brackets
shows how many recipes you
have saved.) If no recipes are
saved and you press ON/ENTER,
“NO DATA”will appear on the
LCD. If recipes have been saved,
use the UP or DOWN key to scroll
to a recipe and press ON/ENTER to
confirm. The instruction menu for
that recipe will then appear on
screen with choices such as ANEC-
DOTE, INGREDIENTS, PREPARATION
and NOTE, as explained above.
Alternatively, you can also go to
your list of favorites by placing
the cursor next to RECIPE on the
home menu and then pressing
NEXT. The LCD will show you
how many recipes are saved.
Press ON/ENTER to see the list, and
ON/ENTER again to select a recipe
you’ve scrolled to.
If you save more than 25 recipes
to FAVORITES, the recipes previ-
ously saved will be replaced in
turn by the ones saved later.
—USING THE REMOVE BUTTON—
Use the REMOVE button to delete a
saved recipe from SAVED [XX] or

Recipe Master may lock up due to static
discharge or other electrical disturbances.
If this should happen, use a slim,

Then follow the instructions for changing batteries
on page 5, installing the new batteries within 20
seconds of removing the old ones.

• Batteries should be installed or replaced only by an adult.
• The New York Times Recipe Master uses 2 AAA batteries, not
included.
• Do not mix alkaline, standard (carbon-zinc) or rechargeable (nickel-cadmi-
um) batteries.
• Do not mix old and new batteries.
• Do not use rechargeable batteries.
• Remove exhausted batteries from the unit.
• Do not short circuit battery terminals.
• Remove batteries and store them in a cool, dry place when not in use.
• To avoid explosion or leakage, do not dispose of batteries in a fire or attempt
to recharge alkaline or other non-rechargeable batteries.

Any applicable implied warranties,
