Properties of a Chameleon
Chameleons are fascinating creatures. They can move
their eyes independently and change color according to
mood and temperature. Another special feature is their
hunting strategy. With the unique way they shoot out
their tongue, they can attack at high speed and grab
their target safely.
Chameleon hunting strategy
The tongue of a chameleon uses the unique combina-
tion of force and form t. This can be observed when
the chameleon is hunting insects. If the chameleon has
his victim in his sights, he lets his tongue pop out like
a rubber band. Shortly before the tip of the tongue rea-
ches the insect, it retreats in the middle, while the edges
move further forward. This allows the tongue to adapt to
the shape and size of the target and tightly enclose it.
The food sticks to the tongue and is pulled in like a
shing line!
