or sick.
Hungry – Feed your pet to make it happier. Keep in mind that the type and
quantity of food can affect your pet’s hunger level and health.

from being around dirty pets (look for the stinky trails above their heads). To get
your pet cleaned up, press MENU and select CLEAN.
Sick – Your pet can get sick from being around other sick pets (look for the sick
faces above their heads) or by being tired, hungry, or dirty too often. To improve
your pet’s health, press MENU, select HEAL, and then select an option from your

have, press MENU and select STUFF. Your total is displayed in the top left corner
of your inventory. You will also see your total displayed automatically when you
buy or sell an item, and other times when your Bucks total goes up or down.
Shopping
As you collect Bucks, you can spend them on what your pet wants and needs.
Look in the shops for food, toys, decorating items for your pet’s house, and
medicine. Press RIGHT or UP to choose how many of an item you would like
to buy. Press SELECT to purchase the item(s).
Selling ItemS
In the junkyard in the jungle, you can sell some
items if you would like to. Press MENU and select
STUFF, and then look through your inventory to
select the item you would like to sell. You will
receive Bucks in return.
Quests
Your pet can go on quests to open new locations in the game. Certain characters
will ask your pet to complete a task for them, such as gather objects or buy
something, and will offer a reward for completing the quest successfully.
Note: Some quests have a time limit. If your pet does not complete the assigned
task by the time the clock runs out, try again.
Giving Gifts
If you visit another pet’s house, you can give it a gift by selecting one from your
Stuff inventory. If you’re asked to bring back food to someone as part of a quest,
you must purchase that food from a store and then return to the character, who
will automatically take it.
Tricks
Learning – Some of the animal friends in the game can do tricks, and can teach
your pet how to do them. To learn a trick, you must solve a puzzle that your pet’s
friend gives you. If you don’t get the puzzle right, you can try again later.

16
17
Performing – Press MENU and select TRICK, and then choose a trick to perform.
If your pet does not yet know how to do a certain trick, a question mark will
appear.
Connecting with Giga Pets
from Handheld Games
You can connect a compatible handheld Giga Pets game to your TV game and have
your pets meet each other!
How to Connect
Make sure that the TV game unit and handheld game unit are both ON. Open the
flip-up door on top of your TV game unit. Dock your handheld game unit into the
TV game unit like a cartridge, and then press ZAP on the handheld game unit. Your
handheld pet will “visit” your TV pet, and certain items can be traded between
games. You can even use friends’ games for more interactive fun.
Mini Pets
Visiting pets from handheld games are known as “mini pets” in the TV game. You
will find that certain items are only for mini pets. Also, you need a mini pet with
you to be able to visit Mystery Island (the question mark on the map)!
Personality Icons and Stats
If you collect a personality icon for your TV pet while a mini pet is visiting, a copy
of the icon will go to the mini pet, too. Your TV pet’s condition can also affect your
mini pet. For example, if your TV pet is dirty or sick, your mini pet will get dirty or
sick too, even once it returns to the handheld game. If you clean or heal your TV
pet while your mini pet is visiting, your mini pet will also become clean or healed.
How to Disconnect
Press ZAP on your handheld game to make your mini pet reappear on your
handheld game screen, and then disconnect the handheld game dock from the
TV game unit.

18
19
Note: You must press the ZAP button before disconnecting the handheld unit,
or you will lose any data transferred from the TV game. The HH game will display
“Press ZAP to download data”.
Ending a Game
Your pet cannot die, but it can get extremely sick.
If you reach the end of the game, why not explore Giga Island again with a
different pet?
Note: The game turns off automatically after ten minutes of non-use. After
automatic shutoff, the game unit will need to be turned off and back on again to
continue play.
Troubleshooting
If you do not see the legal screens and then the main title screen after turning the
TV and game unit on:
Check Plugs and Jacks – Make sure that the video and audio plugs are inserted
into the correct jacks on your TV, VCR or DVD player.
Check Batteries – Make sure the batteries in the game unit are fresh and properly
installed.
Check TV Channel – Your TV channel should be set to its auxiliary “gaming”
channel. This is usually indicated as “AUX,” “AV” or “Video.” You may have to refer to
your TV owner’s manual to determine this. To locate your auxiliary channel (usually
one of the following channels: 2, 1, 0, 00, or 99), click down from channel 3 until
“Line 1,” “Line 2,” “Video 1,” “Video 2,” “Front,” “AUX,” “AV” etc. appears on the
screen. Then press the ON button on the game unit. If you are on the right channel,
the game should come on. If this does not work, see if your TV remote has a button
(labeled “Input,” “AUX,” “AV,” “Line,” “TV/Video,” or “Video”) that takes you to the
correct channel. If your remote has one of these buttons, turn your TV to Channel
3 and then hit that button. Then press the ON button on the game unit. The game
should come on.
Check VCR / DVD Player Connection – Your VCR / DVD player should be set to
“AUX,” “AV” or “Video.” You may have to refer to your VCR or DVD owner’s manual
to determine this.
No Picture – Try putting a videotape into your VCR, let it start to play, and then
hit STOP. This may give you a blue screen background. Then click down to the
auxiliary channel on your TV.
If you do not get a blue screen, see if your TV and/or VCR has a main menu with
an option for a blue screen background. If you go into the main menu, you can
usually change from “cable” to “video” and get a blue screen.
If you have an older TV, you may find a “hidden door” on the TV that has color,
picture, horizontal, vertical, and antennae/cable buttons. If your TV does have
these, press the antennae/cable button to get a blue screen.
