Focal UTOPIA BE-CROSS UNIQ User manual

Thank you for choosing the Utopia Be range and its Cross Uniq crossover which
will allow you to share our philosophy of “the Spirit of Sound”. This excellent
range will guarantee you the est of technologies ever offered in a car. In order
to make the est of its performance, we recommend you read this guide and
keep it for future reference. Any pro lems that may arise due to not respecting
the installation and use rules may render your warranty void.
Note
The Cross Uniq crossover has been developed according to a specific location for each
transducers of N°5, N° 6 and N° 7 Utopia Be kits onl . To do this, standard t pe installations
have been defined. In order to obtain the best results, we recommend ou to strictl follow
these installations rules thanks to diagrams number 2 for N°5 and N°6 Utopia Be kits and
number 5 for N°7 Utopia Be kit. The tweeters of the N°5, N°6 and N°7 Utopia Be kits, like
the midrange of the N°7 Utopia Be kit must be flush mounted. The minimum load for the
midrange driver of the N°7 Utopia Be kit is 0.3 liter.

Installation
The Cross Uniq crossover is exclusivel designed to take full advantage of all the possibilities
offered b the Utopia Be N° 5, N° 6 and N°7 kits. We recommend ou install this crossover in
a clean and dr place in order to avoid an risk of damaging it. Also take care to ensure there
is sufficient space left in front of the Cross Uniq to facilitate access to the connection cables.

Fixing and wiring
The Cross Uniq crossover has holes to enable its fixing to a flat surface. In order to fix it in
place, we recommend ou follow the below steps:
- Remove the 4 screws from the transparent plate, and then remove the plate.
- Place the crossover in the desired place, then mark the position of the holes with a marker.
- Remove the crossover, take a drill and a drill bit of a diameter which must be under 20mm.
Before drilling the previousl marked hole positions, take care not to drill the petrol tank or
an other part of the car where an t pe of wiring ma be located.
- Drill.
- Attach the crossover with the screws provided.
- Connect the positive and negative wires from the loudspeaker output of the amplifier taking
care to respect the polarit (+ to IN+ and – to IN-).
- Connect the wires coming from the woofer on the W+ and W- outputs of the Cross Uniq
taking care to respect the polarit .
- Connect the wire coming from the tweeter on the T+ and T- terminals of the Cross Uniq
taking care to respect the polarit .
Note
The N°7 Utopia Be kits include a 3” midrange driver. The wiring polarit of these transducers
depend on the use. When demonstrated on a baffle (all the transducers are on the same
panel) in a sales area for example, ou must respect the wiring polarit (+ to MID+
and – to MID-). On the contrar , when installed in a car (please refer to diagram N° 2),
ou must reverse the polarit (+ to MID- and – to MID+). This is due to the location of the
transducers which are out of the listening axis.
- Reposition the transparent plate, then put the 4 screws in place.
Adjustment
The Cross Uniq crossover has a 0/+3dB switch which enables ou to adjust the level of the
tweeter. We recommend making some successive listening trials at different musical st les to
find the tweeter level most suited to ou.

All Focal loudspeakers are covered b guarantee drawn up b the official Focal distributor in
our countr .
Your distributor can provide all details concerning the conditions of guarantee. Guarantee
cover extends at least to that granted b the legal guarantee in force in the countr where the
original purchase invoice was issued.

de référence vous garantie le meilleur des technologies jamais atteint en
voiture. Afin d’exploiter toutes leurs performances, nous vous conseillons de lire
ce livret et de le conserver avec précaution pour vous y référer ultérieurement.
Tout pro lème dû au non-respect des règles d’installation et d’utilisation peut
entraîner l’invalidation de la garantie.
Attention
Le filtre Cross Uniq a été développé en fonction d’un positionnement spécifique des
transducteurs des kits N°5, N°6 et N°7 de la ligne Utopia Be uniquement. Pour cela, une
installation t pe a été définie. Afin d’obtenir les meilleurs résultats, nous vous conseillons
donc vivement d’installer votre kit Utopia Be de façon à respecter les conditions exposées
dans les schémas N° 2 pour les kits Utopia Be N°5 / N°6 et N°5 pour le kit Utopia Be N°7.
Les tweeters des kits Utopia Be N°5, N°6 et N°7 ; ainsi que le médium du kit N°7, doivent
impérativement être montés en affleurement (montage encastré). Le volume de charge du
médium du kit Utopia Be N°7 ne doit en aucun cas être inférieur à 0,3 litre.

Installation
Le filtre Cross Uniq est un filtre exclusivement conçu pour exploiter l’ensemble des possibilités
des kits Utopia Be N°5, N°6 et N°7. Nous vous recommandons d’installer ce filtre dans un
endroit propre et sec afin d’éviter tout risque d’endommagement. Veiller également à prévoir un
espace suffisant à l’avant du Cross Uniq pour permettre un accès aisé aux câbles de connexion.

Fixation et câ lage
Le filtre Cross Uniq est doté de trous permettant sa fixation sur une surface plane. Afin de
procéder à la fixation, nous vous recommandons de suivre les étapes ci-dessous :
- Oter les 4 vis de la plaque transparente, puis retirer cette dernière.
- Positionner le filtre à l’endroit désiré, puis marquer l’emplacement des trous à l’aide d’un
poinçon.
- Enlever le filtre, puis vous munir d’une perceuse et d’une mèche d’un diamètre
impérativement inférieur à 20 mm. Avant de percer aux emplacements préalablement
repérés, prenez garde de ne pas percer le réservoir ou tout autre partie de la voiture
susceptible de dissimuler quelque câblage que ce soit.
- Percer.
- Fixer le filtre à l’aide des vis fournies.
- Connecter les câbles positif et négatif provenant de la sortie haut-parleur de l’amplificateur
en prenant garde de respecter les polarités (+ vers IN+ et – vers IN-).
- Connecter le câble provenant du woofer sur les sorties W+ et W- du Cross Uniq en prenant
garde de respecter les polarités.
- Connecter le câble provenant du tweeter sur les sorties T+ et T- du Cross Uniq en prenant
garde de respecter les polarités.
Attention
Le kit Utopia Be N°7 est doté d’un médium de 8 cm. La polarité du câblage de celui-ci sur
le Cross Uniq est fonction de l’utilisation. En exposition sur baffle plan (point de vente, …),
veuillez respecter les polarités de câblage (la cosse positive du transducteur médium doit être
connectée sur MID +, la cosse négative du transducteur médium doit être connectée sur MID -).
A contrario, lors de l’installation du kit Utopia Be N°7 dans un véhicule dans les conditions
mentionnées par le schéma n° 2 page 6, nous vous recommandons d’inverser les polarités
(la cosse positive du transducteur médium doit être connectée sur MID -, la cosse négative
du transducteur médium doit être connectée sur MID +). Ceci est dû à l’emplacement du
médium et à sa position hors de l’axe d’écoute.
- Repositionner le capot transparent, puis remettre les 4 vis en place.
Réglage
Le filtre Cross Uniq est doté d’un commutateur 0/+3 dB qui permet de régler le niveau du
tweeter. Nous vous conseillons d’effectuer des séances d’écoute successives sur différents
st les musicaux pour trouver le niveau de tweeter le mieux adapté.

Conditions de garantie
En cas de problème, adressez-vous à votre revendeur Focal.
La garantie pour la France sur tout matériel Focal est de 2 ans. En cas de matériel défectueux,
celui-ci doit être expédié à vos frais, dans son emballage d’origine auprès du revendeur,
lequel anal sera le matériel et déterminera la nature de la panne. Si celui-ci est sous garantie,
le matériel vous sera rendu ou remplacé en “franco de port”. Dans le cas contraire, un devis
de réparation vous sera proposé.
La garantie ne couvre pas les dommages résultant d’une mauvaise utilisation ou d’un
branchement incorrect (bobines mobiles brûlées par exemple...).
En dehors de la France, le matériel Focal est couvert par une garantie dont les conditions sont
fixées localement par le distributeur officiel Focal de chaque pa s, en accord avec les lois en
vigueur sur le territoire concerné.
