1GENERAL
This manual contains information about the PM834, which is a family of electronic
electricity meters manufactured by Fengyilong.
The purpose of this manual is to give the user a good overview and understanding
of the functions and features that PM834 offers. The end goal is to help the user to
use the meter in the most optimal and correct way and to give the proper service
and support to maintain the highest stability and lifetime.
The degree of the PM834 functions is controlled by its hardware (electronic boards,
mechanics, etc), software (resided in a small computer inside the meter) and the
meter type specific programming done when it is produced (stored in a non-volatile
EEPROM memory).
WARNING! The voltages connected to the PM834 are dangerous and can be lethal.
Therefore it must be insured that the terminals are not touched during operation.
When installing the PM834 all voltages must be switched off.
2PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
This chapter contains a description of the basic functions and practical handling of
the PM834.
2.1 FAMILY OVERVIEW
PM834 is an electronic electricity meter for 3-phase metering and is designed in
accordance with the Fengyilong PROM standard.
PM834 can not only measure energy but also other data, such as voltage,
current, power, power factor and frequency. Meter can display 32 items. The
display time of every item is 5 seconds.
PM834 has a temperature range from –10 to +65ºC (storage +70ºC).
PM834 has 2 ways to communicate:
- Display at front
- Pulse output
The PM834 transformer connected meter has two function buttons that are used to
set the current transformer ratio. The buttons can be sealed by mounting a
sealable terminal cover or by mounting the PM834 in a modular enclosure.
PM834 meter types are tested and approved according to:
- IEC 62052-11 and 62053-21
- Measurement instrument directive (MID), category A and B, electrical
environmental class E2 and electrical environmental class M2
- EN 50470-1, EN 50470-3 category A and B.

These standards cover technical aspects of the meter like climate conditions,
electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), electrical requirements, mechanical
requirements and accuracy.
2.2 DISPLAY INFORMATION
From the display it is possible to view information the energy consumption and
various status information.
The display has 7 characters of 7-segment type with a height of 6 mm and a
number of other specific segments to display different status information. The
illustration below shows all segments (forming characters and symbols) that can
appear on the display in different display modes.

2.3PULSE OUTPUT
The PM834 meter is equipped with a pulse output which is fully separated from
the inside circuit. That generates pulses in proportion to the measured
energy .include the testing pulse output of active energy and reactive energy. 8/
12 Test pulse output contact (P+/P-)，9/ 12 Test pulse output contact (Q+/Q-)
The test pulse output is a polarity dependant, passive transistor output requiring
an external voltage source for correct operation. For this external voltage source,
the voltage (U) should be 5-27V DC, and the maximum input current (Imax)
should be 27mA DC. To connect the impulse output, connect 5-27V DC to
connector 8&9 (anode), and the signal wire (S) to connector 12 (cathode). The
meter pulses is indicated on the front panel.
2.5 BUTTON
The PM834 transformer connected meter has 2 buttons, which are used to set the
current transformer ratio
2.6 CT RATIO
There are 27 ratios to be chosen to set the current transformer ratio.
Please set the Secondary CT ratio after installation otherwise the CT Meter will
count the Secondary energy consumption by default Ratio (5:5).
Procedures of setting the CT of the CT Meter:
2.6.1 Press the PRG button after auto-detect, then you can set the CT
changing- ratio. The LCD shows
2.6.2 Press the SEL button, and there are 27 Ratios (“5:5” to “7500: 5” ) you
can choose from.
Example Secondary CT ration is 75:5

2.6.3 After choosing one CT Changing-Ratio, press the PRG button to confirm
and the ration setting is complete. “ ”disappear.
2.6.4 If do not set up the ”SEL”button in 10 seconds, the meter will turn to
cycle status automatically。The “ ” will disappear on LCD after 60 seconds，set
up the CT will be forbidden。If forget to close the switch of program ,meter will close
the program operation automatically after 60mins ,the“ ”disappear on LCD.
NOTE: In the sense of security, setting the CT changing-ratio can only be done
after power on. Any related operation will be null after disappear.

5 DEVICE DIMENSIONS
6SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE
6.1 RECALIBRATION
It should not be necessary to recalibrate the meter during its lifetime as it is an
electronic meter with no moving parts and electronics, voltage and current sensors
that do not naturally degrade or change with time under specified environmental
conditions. If degradation in the accuracy is observed the meter has probably been
partly damaged (for example due to lightning strike or extreme environmental
conditions etc) and should be sent for repair or exchanged.
6.2 CLEANING
If the meter is dirty and needs to be cleaned, use lightly moistened tissue with
water based mild detergent. Make sure no liquid goes into the meter as this could
damage the meter.
7 SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
WARNING
Maintenance or reparation should be performed by qualified personnel
familiar with applicable codes and regulations.
Use insulated tools to maintain or repair the meter.
Make sure the protection cover is in place after maintenance or reparation.


CAUTION
During reparation and maintenance, do not touch the meters connecting
clamps directly with your bare hands, with metal, blank wire or other
material as you will have the chance of an electricity shock and a possible
chance for health damage.
Turn off and lock out all power supplying the energy meter and the
equipment to which it is installed before opening the protection cover to
prevent the hazard of an electric shock.

