2 Safety informaon and use
2.1 Requirements for the user
This operang manual is intended for persons assigned with operang
and monitoring the Fritsch PULVERISETTE 16. The operang manual and
especially its safety instrucons are to be observed by all persons
working on or with this device. In addion, the applicable rules and regu-
laons for accident prevenon at the installaon site are to be observed.
Always keep the operang manual at the installaon site of the PULVERI-
SETTE 16.
People with health problems or under the inuence of medicaon,
drugs, alcohol or exhauson must not operate this device.
The PULVERISETTE 16 may only be operated by authorised persons and
serviced or repaired by trained specialists. All commissioning, mainte-
nance and repair work may only be carried out by technically qualied
personnel. Qualied personnel are persons who, because of their educa-
on, experience and training as well as their knowledge of relevant
standards, regulaons, accident prevenon guidelines and operang
condions, are authorised by those responsible for the safety of the
machine to carry out the required work and are able to recognize and
avoid possible hazards as dened for skilled workers in IEC 364.
In order to prevent hazards to users, follow the instrucons in this
manual.
Malfuncons that impair the safety of persons, the PULVERISETTE 16 or
other material property must be reced immediately. The following
informaon serves both the personal safety of operang personnel as
well as the safety of the products described and any devices connected
to them: All maintenance and repair work may only be performed by
technically qualied personnel.
This operang manual is not a complete technical descripon. Only the
details required for operaon and maintaining usability are described.
Fritsch has prepared and reviewed this operang manual with the
greatest care. However, no guarantee is made for its completeness or
accuracy.
Subject to technical modicaons.
2.2 Scope of applicaon
The funcon of the high-performance cross beater mill is the comminu-
on of elasc and brous products and product mixtures in batches or
on a connuous basis. In addion, this device is not designed to grind
wet or moist materials. The special design of the cung tools in conjunc-
on with the drive produces a fast, ecient grinding without disrupve
interference with the material to be comminuted.
The device allows parcularly eecve comminuon of heterogeneous
material mixtures such as e.g: slags, lime, stone samples or ores. The
grinding stock is warmed only slightly, making the mill suitable for tem-
perature-sensive materials.
Safety informaon and use
- 7 -

NOTICE!
This laboratory instrument is designed for 8-hour shi
operaon at 30% duty cycle.
The device may not be used as a producon machine or
put into connuous operaon.
2.2.1 Operang principle
Comminuon in the cross beater mill is performed by beang, impact
and shearing. Aer feeding the material for comminuon into the funnel,
it enters the grinding chamber where the comminuon process takes
place between the beang cross, the grinding insert and the boom
sieve.
As soon as the material for comminuon has reached the appropriate
nal neness, it passes through the boom sieve into the collecng
vessel.
If a texle lter hose is used between the cross beater mill and the col-
lecng vessel, a backup of the material caused by the air current created
by the rotang beang cross is avoided, and an increase in material
throughput is to some extent achieved.
This ensures a gentle comminuon process.
2.3 Obligaons of the operator
Before using the PULVERISETTE 16, this manual is to be carefully read
and understood. The use of the PULVERISETTE 16 requires technical
knowledge; only commercial use is permied.
The operang personnel must be familiar with the content of the oper-
ang manual. For this reason, it is very important that these persons
actually receive the present operang manual. Ensure that the operang
manual is always near the device.
The PULVERISETTE 16 may exclusively be used within the scope of appli-
caons set down in this manual and within the framework of guidelines
put forth in this manual. In case of non-compliance or improper use, the
customer assumes full liability for the funconal capability of the PUL-
VERISETTE 16 and for any damage or injury arising from failure to full
this obligaon.
By using the PULVERISETTE 16 the customer agrees with this and recog-
nizes that defects, malfuncons or errors cannot be completely excluded.
To prevent risk of damage to persons or property or of other direct or
indirect damage, resulng from this or other causes, the customer must
implement sucient and comprehensive safety measures for working
with the PULVERISETTE 16.
Safety informaon and use
