ELECTRICAL INFORMATION
CONNECTION OF THE MAINS PLUG
Important! The wires in the mains lead fitted to this product are coloured in accordance with the
following code:
Brown: Live (L)
Blue: Neutral (N)
THIS PRODUCT IS DOUBLE INSULATED AND
THEREFORE DOES NOT REQUIRE A
CONNECTION TO EARTH.
3 PIN PLUG MUST COMPLY TO BS1363/A.
FUSE MUST COMPLY TO BS1362.
If for any reason the 13 amp plug fitted to this product requires replacement it must be wired in
accordance with the following instruction:
DO NOT CONNECT THE BROWN LIVE OR BLUE NEUTRAL TO THE EARTH PIN MARKED E
ON THE 3 PIN PLUG.
Connect the Blue wire to the terminal marked Neutral (N). Connect the Brown wire to the terminal
marked Live (L). Ensure that the outer insulation is gripped by the cord grip and that the wires are
not trapped when replacing the plug cover. The mains lead on this product is fitted with a 13 amp
(BS1363/A) plug. A 13 amp (BS1362) fuse must be fitted in the plug.
IF IN DOUBT CONSULT A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN.
There are no user serviceable parts inside except those referred to in the manual. Always refer
servicing to qualified service personnel. Never remove any part of the casing unless qualified to do
so; this unit contains dangerous voltages.
WARNING!
For your protection if this tool is to be used outdoors do not expose to rain or use in damp
locations. Do not place tool on damp surfaces, use a workbench if available. For added protection
use a suitable residual current device (R.C.D.) at the socket outlet.

process. Every care has been taken to ensure that it
reaches you in perfect condition.
Safety first
Before attempting to operate this power tool the
following basic safety precautions should always be
taken to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock and
personal injury. It is important to read the instruction
manual to understand the application, limitations and
potential hazards associated with this tool.
Certificate of guarantee
This product is guaranteed for a period of 2 Years,
with effect from the date of purchase and applies only
to the original purchaser. This guarantee only applies
to defects arising from, defective materials and or
faulty workmanship that become evident during the
guarantee period only and does not include
consumable items. The manufacturer will repair or
replace the product at their discretion subject to the
following. That the product has been used in
accordance with the guide lines as detailed in the
product manual and that it has not been
subjected to misuse, abuse or used for a purpose for
which it was not intended. That it has not been taken
apart or tampered with in any way whatsoever or has
been serviced by unauthorised persons or has been
used for hire purposes. Transit damage is excluded
from this guarantee, for such damage the transport
company is responsible. Claims made under this
guarantee must be made in the first instance, directly
to the retailer within the guarantee period. Only under
exceptional circumstances should the product be
returned to the manufacturer. In these case it shall be
the consumer’s responsibility to return the product at
their cost ensuring that the product is adequately
packed to prevent transit damage and must be
accompanied with a brief description of the fault and
a copy of the receipt or other proof of purchase. The
manufacturer shall not be liable for any special,
exemplary, direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential
loss or damage under this guarantee. This guarantee
is in addition to and does not affect any rights, which
the consumer may have by virtue of the Sale of Goods
Act 1973 as amended 1975 and 1999.
Statutory rights
This guarantee is in addition to and in no way affects
your statutory rights.
Product disposal
When this product reaches the end of it’s life or is
disposed of for any other reason, it must not be
disposed of in household waste. In order to preserve
natural resources, and to minimise adverse
environmental impact, please recycle or dispose of
this product in an environmentally friendly way. It
should be taken to your local waste recycling centre
or other authorised collection and disposal facility.
If in doubt consult your local waste authority for
information regarding available recycling and / or
disposal options.
Safety instructions
Usage of chainsaw (the tool) always involves the risk
of accidents, therefore please observe the relevant
accident prevention instructions.
The tool has been constructed according to the latest
technology and in accordance with the recognized
technical safety regulations. Nevertheless, use of the
tool can involve risks to the user or the third persons,
and can cause damage to the tool or other objects.
WARNING! This tool is not intended for use by young
children or infirm persons unless they have been
adequately supervised by a responsible person to
ensure that they can use the tool safely. Young
children should be supervised to ensure that they do
not play with the tool.
WARNING! Using electric power tools, you must
observe following safety instructions to protect
yourself against electric shock, danger of injuries and
danger of fire.
Read all these instructions before using the chainsaw
and observe strictly. Keep these safety instructions at
a safe place.
Use the tool in a safety conscious manner and for
suitable applications. Immediately rectify or have
rectified any faults which could adversely affect
safety!
This tool may cause serious injuries. Please read the
instruction manual carefully as to the correct handling,
the preparations, the maintenance and the proper use
of the chainsaw. Familiarise yourself with the tool
before the first use and also have you introduced to
practical use of the tool.
Specific Safety Instructions
This chainsaw is intended for performing the following
operations and must not under any circumstances be
used for any other purpose.
Cutting logs, branches and sawn timber.
Felling and trimming trees.
Cutting branches from felled or fallen trees.
The user bares sole responsibility for any damage or
injury that may result from the use of the chainsaw for
any purpose other than that for which it was intended.
Generally accepted accident prevention and local
legislation and the safety instructions contained in this
manual for the avoidance of accidents when working
with chainsaws must be complied with.

The safety instructions, safety guidance and
recommendations contained in this manual have been
provided for your safety. The supplier will not be held
liable for any injury to the operator, third parties or
damage to any property, as a result of any disregard of
the safety instructions, safety guidance and
recommendations contained in this manual.
Training
It is strongly recommended that before using the
chainsaw the operator should seek some form of basic
formal practical training in the safe use of chainsaws.
Your local health and safety authority will be able to
provide details of training courses and training
providers.
First time users of a chainsaw should practice cutting
logs on a sawhorse.
Only fully trained and competent persons should
operate chainsaws when working from ladders or from
within trees.
Chainsaws should not be operated by persons under
16 years of age.
Warning! Always ensure that the chainsaw is
disconnected from the mains supply before carrying
out any maintenance, cleaning, cutting chain
sharpening, cutting chain replacement or any
adjustments.
WARNING!
Two handed operation required
This machine requires the use of two hands to ensure
safe operation and should not be used when working
from ladders and step ladders.
If this machine is to be used when working at height a
suitable, stable platform or scaffold tower with hand
rails and kick boards should be used.
When using power tools that can expose the operator
to high levels of vibration, It is possible that the
operator might develop ‘Vibration white finger disease’
(Raynaud syndrome). This condition can reduce the
sensitivity of the hand to temperature as well as
producing general numbness. Prolonged or regular
users of chainsaws should monitor the condition of
their hands and fingers closely. If any of the symptoms
become evident, seek immediate medical advice.
Never work alone with a chainsaw, always have a
colleague nearby to act as a safety look out and to be
nearby in case of an accident.
Do not overreach or try to operate the chainsaw in an
awkward position.
It is strongly advised that an adequate first aid kit is
kept nearby.
When carrying the chainsaw, hold it by the front handle
with the guide bar facing behind you with the chain
guard fitted.
Never carry the chainsaw while it is still switched on,
still connected to the mains supply or with your finger
on the trigger.
Never drag the chainsaw by the mains lead.
Before each use always check that the chain brake
operates correctly (the chain should stop immediately
when the chain brake is engaged).
Never use the chainsaw if the chain brake does not
operate correctly.
Do not use the chainsaw above shoulder height.
Always adopt a stable comfortable body position with
both feet firmly on the ground.
Make sure that the timber being cut is free from foreign
objects such as nails, staples or wire.
Never allow the cutting chain to come into contact with
the ground or other hard objects. The chain is traveling
at high speed and could kick up stones and debris
which could cause serious injury to the user and
bystanders.
Only use cutting chains that are recommended for the
machine.
Always use gloves when handling and fitting the cutting
chain.
Never attempt to modify the chainsaw in any way. This
is highly dangerous and can cause serious injury and
will invalidate the warranty.
The chainsaw is designed to cut timber only. Do not
attempt to cut any other material.
Keep the chainsaw handles clean and dry to avoid
slipping and to aid in controlling the saw.
Always fit the chain guard when the chainsaw is not in
use or when it is being carried.
Do not use the chainsaw in wet or damp conditions,
where the tree canopy could hold rain or leave the
chainsaw outside in rainy conditions.
Always ensure that the work area is clear of
obstructions and bystanders. The safe distance from
the tree being felled is two and a half times the height
of the tree being felled.
Do not exceed the maximum cutting capacity of the
chainsaw as detailed in the manual.
Before connecting to the mains supply
Examine the mains cable for any damage caused by
chafing or cuts from sharp objects. If the cable is
damaged replace the complete cable.
Examine the chain for signs of damage, sharpness,
missing teeth and for the correct tension. Examine the
guide bar, nose guard for any damage or excessive
wear.
Check the tightness of the guide bar securing nuts and
tighten if necessary.

Check the sharpness of the spiked bumper and
sharpen if required.
Check the level of the chain oil in the reservoir and
replenish if required with a good quality chain oil.
Check the residual current device (RCD) for correct
operation.
General Safety Rules
WARNING! Read all instructions Failure to follow all
instructions listed below may result in electric shock,
fire and/or serious injury. The term "power tool" in all
of the warnings listed below refers to your mains
operated (corded) power tool or battery operated
(cordless) power tool.
Save These Instructions
1) Work area
a) Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered and
dark areas invite accidents.
b) Do not operate power tools in explosive
atmospheres, such as in the presence of
flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools
create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
c) Keep children and bystanders away while
operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you
to lose control.
2) Electrical Safety
a) Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never
modify the plug in any way. Do not use any
adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power
tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will
reduce risk of electric shock.
b) Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded
surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges and
refrigerators.
There is an increased risk of electric shock if your
body is earthed or grounded.
c) Do not expose power tools to rain or wet
conditions. Water entering a power tool will
increase the risk of electric shock.
d) Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for
carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool.
Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or
moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords
increase the risk of electric shock.
e) When operating a power tool outdoors, use an
extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a
cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of
electric shock.
3) Personal Safety
a) Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use
common sense when operating a power tool. Do
not use a power tool while you are tired or under
the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication.
A moment of inattention while operating power
tools may result in serious personal injury.
b) Use safety equipment. Always wear eye
protection. Safety equipment such as dust mask,
non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing
protection used for appropriate conditions will
reduce personal injuries.
c) Avoid accidental starting. Ensure the switch is in
the off position before plugging in. Carrying power
tools with your finger on the switch or plugging in
power tools that have the switch on invites
accidents.
d) Remove any adjusting key or wrench before
turning the power tool on.
A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part
of the power tool may result in personal injury.
e) Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and
balance at all times. This enables better control of
the power tool in unexpected situations.
f) Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or
jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves
away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery
or long hair can be caught in moving parts.
g) If devices are provided for the connection of dust
extraction and collection facilities, ensure these
are connected and properly used. Use of these
devices can reduce dust related hazards.
4) Power Tool Use and Care
a) Do not force the power tool. Use the correct
power tool for your application. The correct power
tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for
which it was designed.
b) Do not use the power tool if the switch does not
turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be
controlled with the switch is dangerous and must
be repaired.
c) Disconnect the plug from the power source before
making any adjustments, changing accessories, or
storing power tools. Such preventive safety
measures reduce the risk of starting the power
tool accidentally.
d) Store idle power tools out of the reach of children
and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the
power tool or these instructions to operate the
power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the
hands of untrained users.
e) Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or
binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and
any other condition that may affect the power
tools operation. If damaged, have the power tool
repaired before use. Many accidents are caused
by poorly maintained power tools.

f) Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly
maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges
are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
g) Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc.,
in accordance with these instructions and in the
manner intended for the particular type of power
tool, taking into account the working conditions and
the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for
operations different from intended could result in a
hazardous situation.
5) Service
a) ave your power tool serviced by a qualified repair
person using only identical replacement parts. This
will ensure that the safety of the power tool is
maintained.
Components & Controls (Fig 1)
Unpacking
Caution! This packaging contains sharp objects. Take
care when unpacking. Remove the machine, together
with the accessories supplied, from the packaging.
Check carefully to ensure that the machine is in good
condition and account for all the accessories listed in
this manual. Also make sure that all the accessories
are complete. If any parts are found to be missing, the
machine and its accessories should be returned
together in their original packaging to the retailer.
Do not throw the packaging away, keep it safe
throughout the guarantee period, then recycle if
possible, otherwise dispose of it by the proper means.
Do not let children play with empty plastic bags due to
the risk of suffocation.
Assembly Instructions. (Fig 2 to 5)
Warning! Always ensure that the chainsaw is
disconnected from the mains supply before carrying
out any maintenance, cleaning, cutting chain
sharpening, cutting chain replacement or any
adjustments.
Remove the drive sprocket cover (Pic2) (2.1) by
unscrewing the guide bar securing nut (Pic.2) (2.2).
Position the chain tension screw pin to the far left of
the slot (Pic.3) (3.1).
With the guide bar held vertically, locate the cutting
chain over the nose of the guide bar ensuring that the
cutting chain teeth are facing the correct way and that
the cutting chain is correctly located in the groove in
the guide bar (Pic.4) (4.1). Maintaining tension on the
cutting chain ease the cutting chain guide bar over the
securing studs
(Pic.5) (5.1) and the cutting chain over the drive
sprocket (Pic.5) (5.2). When the guide bar and the
cutting chain are correctly located ensure that he
cutting chain tension pin is correctly located in the hole
in the guide bar (Pic.5) (5.3). Replace the drive sprocket
cover plate and secure with the guide plate securing
nut (Pic.2) (2.2).
Cutting Chain Tensioning (Pic.6)
The cutting chain is correctly tensioned when it is
possible to raise it 3-4mm in the centre of the guide
bar (Pic.6) (6.1). If the cutting chain requires tensioning,
slacken the two guide bar securing nuts and adjust the
tension using the tension adjusting screw (Pic.2) (2.3).
When the correct tension is achieved re-tighten the
guide bar securing nut. (Pic.2) (2.2).
Warning! If the cutting chain tension is too slack the
cutting chain could jump off the guide bar causing
injury.
If the cutting chain tension is too tight excessive wear
will take place on the guide bar and the cutting chain
could snap causing injury.
Filling The Oil Reservoir (Pic.7)
Remove the oil filler cap (Pic.7) (7.1) and fill the oil
reservoir with the oil provided. The oil level must never
fall below the minimum level indicator (Pic.7) (7.2). Only
use high quality cutting chain oil.
Do not allow sawdust or wood debris into the oil
reservoir, this will clog the lubrication system.
Note: Under normal operating conditions a full oil
reservoir should give between 15 and 40 minutes of
operation before re-filling is required.
Warning! The chainsaw must never be run without
cutting chain lubrication, this will quickly damage the
cutting chain and the guide bar and will invalidate the
warranty.

Checking The Lubrication System
To check that the lubrication system is working, run the
chainsaw while holding the guide bar above some
paper. A steadily increasing stain caused by oil spray
shows that the lubrication system is working. If there is
no oil stain check and clean the lubrication system
before using the chainsaw. The chainsaw must never
be run without the oilier in full working condition.
The Cutting Chain Brake
The chainsaw is fitted with a cutting chain brake
mechanism, that will stop the cutting chain within
1/10th of a second. If the hand protection guard
(cutting chain brake) is brought into the tripping
position either manually or while operating the
chainsaw as a result of a kickback by the back of the
operators hand or if the chainsaw is switched off by
releasing the ON/OFF switch.
Connecting To The Mains Supply. (Pic.8)
Starting And Stopping
Remove the chain guard. Connect the mains supply
lead to a suitable mains supply socket via a residual
current device (RCD). Set the cutting chain brake lever
to the released position by pulling the hand protection
guard towards the front handle (Pic.8) (8.1) it should
click into position. Press in the safety button on the
side of the rear handle and squeeze the trigger switch.
The saw should now run. To stop the saw release the
trigger switch.
Checking The Cutting Chain Brake On/Off
Switch.
Warning! The chainsaw must not be operated if the
cutting chain brake fails to operate.
Start the chainsaw, now release the trigger, the cutting
chain brake should stop the cutting chain immediately.
The motor will run down slowly.
Checking The Cutting Chain Brake Lever
Operation
Warning! The chainsaw must not be operated if the
cutting chain brake fails to operate.
Start the chainsaw, now knock the hand protection
guard forwards (Pic.8) (8.2) the cutting chain brake
should stop the cutting chain immediately. The motor
will run down slowly when the ON/OFF trigger is
released.
Running In The Cutting Chain
Before using the chainsaw from new or after fitting a
new cutting chain the cutting chain must be ‘run in’.
After following the above procedures, allow the
chainsaw to run for between 2 to 3 minutes during this
time ensure that the cutting chain is being lubricated
correctly. When the running in period has been
completed check the cutting chain tension and re-
tension if required.
Nose Guard
One of the most common causes of injury from a
chainsaw is caused by ‘kickback’. Kickback is caused
when the nose of the guide bar contacts an object
while the cutting chain is moving. A single saw tooth
essentially jams into an object and instead of cutting it
, the energy from the saw is redirected backwards and
upwards. This causes the saw to (kickback) in your
hands, which can result in severe injury.
The nose guard fitted to this chainsaw is designed to
cover the nose area of the cutting chain reducing the
possibility of kickback. Unfortunately the fitting of the
nose guard limits the cutting capacity of the chainsaw,
(refer to technical specification).
Cutting Chain Sharpening
It is not recommended that the occasional user
attempts to sharpen a chainsaw cutting chain.
Chainsaw cutting chains should only be sharpened by
an experienced competent person, it is safer to fit a
new cutting chain. If the Cutting chain tends to move
sideways during cutting or the cut produces fine dust
instead chips, or if heavy pressure is required to keep
cutting or if there is a smell of burning wood the saw
cutting chain requires sharpening.
Warning! Always ensure that the chainsaw is
disconnected from the mains supply before carrying
out any maintenance, cleaning, cutting chain
sharpening, cutting chain replacement or any
adjustments.

Maintenance
The following maintenance guide must be followed in order to keep the chain saw in a safe working condition.
Maintenance Frequency Maintenance Requirement
When new. ‘Run in’ the cutting chain, Run for 2-3 minutes then check and adjust
the cutting chain tension. Fill the oil reservoir.
Before each use. Check the cutting chain tension and sharpness. Check the tightness of
the guide bar securing nuts. Check the cutting chain lubricating oil
reservoir. Check that the cutting chain lubrication system is operating
correctly.
During use. Periodically check the cutting chain tension, the security of the guide
bar securing nuts, the cutting chain lubricating oil reservoir the
operation of the cutting chain oiling system.
At every cutting chain replacement.
After each cutting chain sharpening.
Remove the chain guide bar and cutting chain. Clean the groove in the
guide bar.
Reverse the position of the guide bar when re-fitting to prevent uneven
wear.
Check the cutting chain tension and sharpness. Check the tightness of
the chain guide securing nuts. Check the cutting chain lubricating oil
reservoir. Check that the cutting chain lubrication system is operating
correctly. Check the drive sprocket for wear.
At every second cutting chain
replacement
The drive sprocket should be replaced with a new one.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Suitable personal protective equipment should always
be worn – no matter how small the job. European
standards for chainsaw PPE are published as part of
EN 381 Protective clothing for users of hand-held
chainsaws.
There are various types of protective clothing designed
specifically for protection against serious injury when
using a chainsaw. This clothing can be purchased from
a reputable power tool supplier or it can be hired from
one of the larger hire shops.
It is strongly recommended that the following
protective clothing is worn when using a chainsaw.
1. Head Protection
A safety helmet to EN 397.
Should be worn and adjusted to fit correctly.
2. Hearing Protection
Ear protectors to EN 352-1.
Should be worn at all times when the chainsaw is
running.
3. Eye Protection
A mesh visor to EN1731.
Worn in conjunction with the safety helmet or
safety glasses to EN166 Should be worn at all
times when using a chainsaw.
4. Upper Body Protection
A chainsaw jacket to prEN381-10.
Can provide additional protection where operators
are at increased risk and is recommended
especially when using a chainsaw above waist
height.
5. Hand Protection
Gloves to EN 381-7.
Should be worn except where there is a risk of
snagging.
6. Leg Protection
Chainsaw trousers to EN 381-5.
Giving all round leg protection are recommended
for occasional users of chainsaws.

7. Foot and ankle protection
Chainsaw boots to EN 345-2.
Bearing a shield depicting a chainsaw to show
compliance with EN 381-3 should be worn. For
occasional users, working on even ground where
there is little risk of tripping or snagging on
undergrowth.
Protective gaiters to EN 381-9 can be worn in
conjunction with steel-toe-capped safety boots.
NB. No protective equipment can ensure 100%
protection against injury from a hand held
chainsaw.
Using The Chainsaw Safely
IMPORTANT NOTICE
Before attempting to fell or prune a tree check with
your local authority on matters concerning bylaws and
preservation orders. The felling or pruning of trees
protected by local byelaws or preservation orders is an
offence.
Work Area
For all chainsaw operations clear the work area of any
obstructions that could interfere with the safe operation
of the chainsaw. When tree felling consideration must
be given to the direction of fall, safety areas, overhead
cables, fences, buildings, bystanders, animals, ground
slope, prevailing weather conditions i.e. wind direction
and surrounding trees.
Basic Logging or Crosscutting
The first time user should practice logging using a saw
horse or similar device which is stable and securely
supports the log Pic.A. Select a suitable manageable
size log
and locate it securely onto the saw horse. Ensure that
there is sufficient overhang to allow the cut to be made
without any part of the chainsaw making contact with
the saw horse Pic.A. Adopt a stable body position with
the left arm almost straight, ensuring that no part of
your body extends beyond an imaginary straight line
drawn through the centre of the guide bar Pic.B. Press
the spiked bumper on the chainsaw against the log
Pic.C1. Only now should the chainsaw be switched on
Warning! Do not start the chainsaw with the chain in
contact with the timber. Start the cut by increasing the
upwards pressure on the rear handle causing a
pivoting action against the spiked bumper Pic.C2. If
the cut cannot be completed in one pass, reduce the
downwards pressure on the front and apply
downwards pressure on the rear handle to reposition
the spiked bumper lower down on the log Pic.C3.
These actions will result in a rocking action allowing
the cut to be completed in a number of stages. Always
keep the spiked bumper in contact with the log.
If logging is to be carried out on the ground the log to
be cut should be supported on another log Pic.D. If the
ground is sloping the operator should stand uphill of
the piece being cut off.
Removing Branches From Standing Timber
Only remove branches that are accessible at shoulder
height or below. If the tree is not to be felled the
branch to be removed should be cut off as close to the
tree trunk as is safely possible. To ensure that the
branch falls away cleanly without swinging downwards,
causing possible injury to the operator, the branch
should be first undercut by approximately one third of
its diameter Pic.E1. The cut is then completed with a
top cut Pic.E2.
Removing Branches From Felled Timber
Start removing the branches from the base of the tree
trunk, adopt a stable stance with both feet firmly on the
ground. Keep the tree trunk between yourself and the
branch being removed. If the tree is on a slope work
from the uphill side of the trunk. Do not walk or stand
on the tree trunk, it could roll causing injury. Cut the
branches as close to the trunk as possible, supporting
the guide bar against tree trunk and the body of the
chainsaw against your right leg. Using the forward
moving part of the chain pull the saw across the trunk
removing the branch. When removing branches next to
you, support the guide bar against tree trunk and the
body of the chainsaw against your right leg. Using the
backward moving part of the chain, pull the saw across
the trunk removing the branch.

Felling Saplings
Saplings and taller slender trees are very flexible and
are prone to catching the cutting chain which could
whip the sapling towards you and could pull you off
balance. Saplings should be felled as close to the
ground as possible taking care that the saw chain does
not come into contact with the ground.
General Tree Felling
This manual only covers basic tree felling techniques.
For more advanced felling techniques the user should
obtain formal practical training.
Risk Assessment
Before attempting to fell any tree a risk assessment
must be carried out in order to identify all the risks
involved in felling the chosen tree. The risk assessment
should include the following:
Are there any power lines, buildings, walls or fences,
that could be damaged when the tree is felled.
Are there other trees that would prevent the chosen
tree to be felled from falling safely without hanging up.
Is the chosen tree leaning, if it is extra care will be
needed when felling to ensure that the tree fall’s where
you want it to.
Can you drop the tree safely where you want it to.
Make sure that the tree has a clear area in which to fall.
Is the area around the trunk of the tree clear of brush
wood and other obstructions that would prevent a solid
footing and an unobstructed all round view of the
cutting area.
Check the wind strength and direction to see if this will
affect how the tree will fall
The tree should be checked for dead branches,
hanging branches and rot in the trunk.
Check that your safety escape routes are clear. There
should be at least two safety escape route’s Pic.F.
Pic.F
The Felling Cut’s.
Felling a tree requires at least two different cuts, the
face cut and a back cut. The face cut consists of two
cuts which removes a wedge of timber (typically this is
at an angle of between 45° to 90°) from the trunk and
partially determines the initial direction of fall Pic.G.
The wedge cut should be no deeper than 1/3rd of the
diameter of the tree trunk. There are numerous ways in
which to cut this wedge, the inexperienced user should
concentrate on the basic 60° to 70° face cut with a flat
bottom.
The back cut is made behind the wedge cut
approximately 1 to 2 inches above the notch made by
the wedge cut Pic. . Make sure that the cut is made
parallel to the notch. Make the cut quickly and
smoothly while watching the cut and the tree. Do not
cut all the way through the tree. You must leave about
1/2î of wood between the back cut and the notch; this
is called the hinge which will control the rate and
determine the final direction of fall Pic.I. If the back cut
is not made parallel to the wedge bottom cut the
direction of fall will be affected. Pic.J. shows how the
direction of fall will be affected if the back cut is not
parallel to the bottom wedge cut.
Warning! If the wedge cut is not made deep enough,
when the back cut is being made the weight of the tree
could pinch the cutting chain. To prevent pinching,
plastic or hardwood wedges can be hammered into the
back cut behind the cutting chain. If wedges are used,
care must be taken when re-inserting the cutting chain
into the partially cut, back cut, that the saw chain does
not come into contact with the wedges.
As soon as the tree begins to fall, remove the saw from
the back cut and switch it off and retreat along one of
the predetermined escape routes, walk don’t run. You
need to clear the area quickly so that if anything goes
wrong you will be at a safe distance avoiding injury.
Only when you hear the tree hit the ground is it safe to
stop and turn around.
WARNING!
If the felled tree becomes ‘hung up’ (the tree becomes
caught up in surrounding trees). The inexperienced
user should not attempt to free the tree from this
position. It will require a skilled and experienced
operator to safely remove the tree. Under no
circumstances should a ‘hung up’ tree be left in this
position. If it cannot be removed immediately, warning
signs and a safety barrier must be erected around the
area.

VAROITUS!

Ennen yhdistämistä sähköverkkoon

hyvälaatuista teräöljyä.

Alla olevien ohjeiden noudattamatta jättäminen voi
aiheuttaa sähköiskun, tulipalon ja/tai vakavan
vamman. Käsite ”sähkötyökalu” kaikissa alla
luetelluissa varoituksissa viittaa työkaluun tai
akkukäyttöiseen (johdotoomaan) sähkötyökaluun.

1) Työalue
a) Pidä työalue puhtaana ja hyvin valaistuna.
Roskaiset tai pimeät alueet lisäävät
onnettomuusriskiä.
b) Älä käytä työkaluja ympäristöissä, joissa on
räjähdysvaara, kuten helposti syttyvien nesteiden,
kaasujen tai pölyn läsnä ollessa. Työkalut
synnyttävät kipinöitä, jotka voivat sytyttää pölyn tai
höyryt tuleen.
c) Pidä lapset ja sivulliset poissa työkalua

2) Sahköturvallisuus

c) Suojaa sähkötyökalut sateelta ja kosteudelta.
Sähkötyökalun sisään päässyt vesi lisää
sähköiskun vaaraa.
d) Älä käytä johtoa väärin. Älä koskaan käytä johtoa
sähkötyökalun kantamiseen, vetämiseen tai
irrottamiseen pistorasiasta. Pidä johto kaukana
lämmöstä, öljystä, terävistä reunoista ja liikkuvista
osista. Vaurioituneet tai sotkeutuneet johdot
lisäävät sähköiskun vaaraa.
e) Kun sähkötyökalua käytetään ulkotiloissa, käytä
jatkojohtoa, joka soveltuu ulkokäyttöön.
Ulkokäyttöön sopivan johdon käyttö vähentää
sähköiskun vaaraa.
3) Henkilöturvallisuus
a) Pysy valppaana, katso mitä teet ja käytä tervettä
järkeä käyttäessäsi työkalu. Älä käytä työkalu
ollessasi väsynyt tai huumeiden, alkoholin tai
lääkkeiden vaikutuksen alaisena. etkellinen
epähuomio työkalu käytettäessä voi johtaa
vakaviin henkilövammoihin.
b) Käytä suojavarustusta. Käytä aina suojalaseja.
Turvavarustus kuten hengityssuojain,
liukumattomat turvajalkineet, suojakypärä tai
kuulosuojain käytettynä asianmukaisissa
olosuhteissa vähentää henkilövammoja.
c) Vältä vahinkokäynnistyksiä. Varmista, että kytkin
on off-asennossa (sammutettuna) ennen virran
kytkemistä. Työkalun kantaminen sormi kytkimellä
tai virran kytkeminen päälle työkaluihin, joiden
kytkin on päällä, voi aiheuttaa onnettomuuksia.
d) Poista säätöavaimet tai jakoavaimet ennen
työkalun käynnistämistä. Jako- tai muu avain, joka
on jätetty kiinni työkalun pyörivään osaan voi
aiheuttaa henkilövamman.
e) Älä kurkottele. Pidä asianmukainen jalansija ja

käyttöön. Jos työkalu on vaurioitunut, korjauta se
ennen käyttöä. Monet onnettomuudet aiheutuvat
huonosti kunnossapidetyistä työkaluista.
e) Pidä leikkaustyökalut terävinä ja puhtaina.
Asianmukaisesti kunnossapidetyt leikkaustyökalut,
joissa on terävät leikkausreunat, eivät juutu
helposti ja niiden käsittely on helpompaa.
f) Käytä työkalua, lisävarusteita ja työkalupaloja tms.
näiden ohjeiden mukaisesti ja tavalla, johon
kyseessä oleva sähkötyökalu on tarkoitettu, ottaen
huomioon työolosuhteet ja suoritettava työ.
Työkalun käyttö toimintoihin, joihin sitä ei ole
tarkoitettu, voi johtaa vaaralliseen tilanteeseen.

5) Huolto
a) Jätä työkalun huolto pätevälle korjaajalle, joka
käyttää ainoastaan täsmälleen samanlaisia
varaosia. Näin varmistetaan, että työkalun
turvallisuus säilyy.

Pakkauksesta purkaminen
Huomio! Tämä pakkaus sisältää teräviä osia. Ole
varovainen pakkausta purkaessasi. Poista laite sekä
mukana olevat tarvikkeet pakkauksesta. Tarkista
huolellisesti, että laite on hyvässä kunnossa ja kaikki
käyttöoppaassa luetellut tarvikkeet ovat mukana.
Varmista myös, että kaikki tarvikkeet ovat täydellisiä.
Jos jokin osa puuttuu, laite ja tarvikkeet tulee palauttaa
alkuperäisessä pakkauksessa jälleenmyyjälle.
Älä heitä pakkausta pois, pidä se tallessa koko
takuuajan ja kierrätä sen jälkeen, mikäli mahdollista,
muutoin hävitä se asianmukaisella tavalla. Älä anna
lasten leikkiä tyhjillä muovipusseilla tukehtumisvaaran
takia.
Kokoamisohjeet. (Kuvat 2–5)
Varoitus! Varmista aina, että moottorisaha on irrotettu
sähköverkosta ennen kunnossapitotoimenpiteiden,
puhdistamisen, teräketjun teroittamisen, teräketjun
vaihtamisen tai muun säädön suorittamista.
Poista ketjupyörän kansi (kuva 2) (2.1) kiertämällä
terälevyn kiinnitysmutterin auki (kuva 2) (2.2). Aseta
ketjun kiristysruuvi vasemmalle kolossa (kuva 3) (3.1).
Pidä terälevyä pystyssä, aseta teräketju terälevyn
kärjen päälle ja varmista, että teräketjun hampaat
osoittavat oikeaan suuntaan ja teräketju on oikein
terälevyn urassa (kuva 4) (4.1). Pitämällä teräketjua
kireällä helpotat t (kuva 5) (5.1) ja teräketjun teräpyörän
päälle (kuva 5) (5.2). Kun terälevy ja teräketju ovat
oikein paikoillaan, varmista, että teräketjun kiristystappi
sijaitsee terälevyn reiässä (kuva 5) (5.3). Poista
ketjupyörän kansi (kuva 2) (2.1) kiertämällä terälevyn
kiinnitysmutteri auki (kuva 2) (2.2).
Teräketjun kiristäminen (kuva 6)
Teräketju on oikein kiristetty, jos sitä voi nostaa 3–4
mm terälevyn keskeltä (kuva 6) (6.1). Jos teräketju
vaatii kiristämistä, löysää kaksi terälevyn
kiinnitysmutteria, ja säädä kireys kireyden säätöruuvin
avulla (kuva 2) (2.3). Kun oikea kireys on saavutettu,
kiinnitä terälevyn kiinnitysmutteri paikoilleen. (Kuva 2)
(2.2).
Varoitus! Jos teräketju ei ole riittävän kireällä, se voi
hypätä pois terälevyn päältä ja aiheuttaa tapaturman.
Jos teräketju on liian kireällä, se kuluttaa terälevyä ja
teräketju voi napsahtaa poikki aiheuttaen tapaturman.
Öljyn lisääminen öljysäiliöön (kuva 7)
Irrota öljysäiliön korkki (kuva 7) (7.1) ja täytä säiliöön
mukana tulevaa öljyä. Öljyn taso ei saa koskaan laskea
alle vähimmäistason merkinnän (kuva 7) (7.2). Käytä
vain hyvälaatuista teräketjuöljyä.
Älä päästä sahanpölyä tai puuroskia öljysäiliöön, ne
tukkivat voitelujärjestelmän.
uomautus: Normaaleissa käyttöolosuhteissa täysi
säiliöllinen öljyä riittää noin 15–40 minuutin
työskentelyyn ilman öljyn lisäämistä.
Varoitus! Moottorisahaa ei saa käyttää ilman teräketjun
voitelua. Tämän laiminlyönti vioittaa nopeasti teräketjun
ja terälevyn sekä mitätöi takuun.
Voitelujärjestelmän tarkastaminen
Tarkista, että voitelujärjestelmä toimii käyttämällä
moottorisahaa ja pitämällä terälevyä paperin
yläpuolella. Öljyn aiheuttama tasaisesti kasvava tahra
osoittaa, että voitelujärjestelmä toimii. Jos öljytahraa ei
ilmesty, tarkista ja puhdista voitelujärjestelmä ennen
moottorisahan käyttämistä. Moottorisahaa ei saa
koskaan käyttää ilman täydellisesti toimivaa
öljyjärjestelmää.
Ketjujarru
Sahaketjussa on jarrumekanismi, joka pysäyttää ketjun
1/10 sekunnissa. Jos käsien turvasuojus (teräjarru)
tuodaan laukaisuasentoon, joko manuaalisesti tai
käytön aikana, seurauksena takapotkusta tai jos
moottorisaha pysäytetään vapauttamalla on/off-
kytkimen.
