Text diagnostic module (TDM)
The TDM serves to assist the operator and simplify handling of the aircraft tractor.
The TDM displays the following information during normal driving operation.
·Status messages (e.g. “AST ready for service”) or
·Commands (e.g. “Release parking brake") or
·error messages (e.g. “E991:EDP01-ERR:186 CODE:3”)
Structure of error messages:
In the error message example “E991:EDP01-ERR:186 CODE:3” means:
“E991:xxxxxxxxxx” = message number
“xxx ERR:186 xxx” = error number
“xxxxxxxxCODE:3” = error code
The driver must notify the message number, error number and error code to
the workshop.
During driving operation the TDM is in user mode (driving operation).
Apart from assisting the operator, the TDM is also used for the following tasks:
·Aircraft selection

Driving operation with aircraft
Only move approved aircraft types using the AST.
The approval of aircraft types which can be towed using the AST must
be agreed between the tractor operator, aircraft manufacturer and
Goldhofer.
(also refer to the “IMPORTANT NOTES” given in the primary information
section)
Select aircraft
The PLC-controlled AST performs an aircraft identification procedure after pre-tensioning
the nose landing gear and offers the corresponding aircraft type on the TDM display for
selection.
The driver then selects and confirms the required aircraft on the TDM.
Drive operation is blocked by the PLC until the driver selects the aircraft, after which the
PLC releases drive operation.
Please also refer to the detailed description of the steps on the following pages.
Aircraft pick-up
Travelling without load ends when the operator has driven the AST underneath / in front of
the nose of the aircraft. When approaching the nose chassis, turn the seat to the rear and
ensure that the pick-up device is fully lowered.
Align the AST with the longitudinal axis of the aircraft (not at an angle).
The AST must be centred with the aircraft nose chassis. Lateral offset is
not permitted! Depressurise the aircraft steering hydraulics before
attempting to tow the aircraft.
Carefully observe the working area when picking up the aircraft.
Aircraft pick-up is only possible when the seat is turned to the rear.

Position, Labelling of the Controls / Emergency Operation
D = Normal driving position
E = Emergency release
In condition of emergency operation, the vehicle must be controlled and
moved very carefully.
Only after elimination of the fault, the vehicle may be operated again.
Only after release of the aircraft, the AST may be towed off and operated
with the emergency system for brake, emergency driving and steering.
During operation of the AST with the emergency system for brake,
emergency driving and steering, the AST should only be moved at
walking speed.
Return all controls to driving position and store emergency release
equipment (manual pump hose, etc) securely after emergency
operation and re-starting.
Insofar as the drive motor is operational, the AST brakes and steering remain
operational in the event of drive operation failure or electronic control failure.

Emergency Operation Switch ESS01
Only operate the emergency operation switch in the event of a PLC error and / or CAN bus
error and drive operation is blocked:
- if TDM reports an error
- the AST can no longer be driven
The emergency operation conditionally releases drive operation.
The emergency operation switch is not required for other emergency operation functions
(release aircraft, release brakes, etc).
Only use emergency operation switch (ESS01) in order to move the
aircraft tractor out of the danger zone and to transport it to the
workshop.
Operation with activated emergency operation switch may only be
undertaken without an aircraft.
Emergency unit
Pushbutton ESL08 is used to switch on the emergency unit. The emergency unit will only
pump the hydraulic oil as long as pushbutton ESL08 is pressed.
