NOTE!
Always read the instruction manual before use.
Combisafe accepts no liability for items that have been
altered.
GENERAL INFORMATION
oOnly use the SMB Rack for its intended purpose only.
Do not stack or load anything other than Combisafe
Steel Mesh Barriers No. 32XX.
oLoad box with maximum 50 barriers.
oSecure barriers in box from sliding or overturning, use
strap around box and barriers or use the Combisafe
Fixation Device Art. No. 11040 to secure the barriers.

USE
Assembly of the SMB Rack
While transporting the SMB Racks the vertical corner
tubes are disassembled to achieve a compact stacking.
Before loading the Rack with SMBs these tubes needs
to be assembled.
Figure 2. Assembly of corner vertical tubes
The tubes are secured with M10x70 bolts (Art.No.
100227) and lock nuts (Art.No. 100027).
Make sure bolts and nuts are tightened properly.

Lifting by crane
oUse a suitable 4-legged lifting chain or two
lifting slings with permissible load ability
(SWL) above 1020 kg.
oMaximum chain/sling spread angle 60°.

Lifting with forks
oThe Rack can be lifted from all sides with forks.
When lifting from long side, make sure that the
barriers are not in the way.
Caution must be exercised not to damage the
barriers with the fork lift.
oPlace forks centered on Rack and make sure
that forks are pushed in enough so the box
supports on both sides.
Stacking nets in the SMB Rack
It is important to stack the barriers correctly in the Rack.
Otherwise the barrier stack will become too high and
unstable.
There are two ways of stacking, described below.
However, independent of method chosen, it is
important to stack the barriers symmetrically to get the
correct balance of the SMB Rack.
Figure 4. Stack the barriers symmetrically (top view)

SMB Rack
Use
9
Method 1
This method is the easiest, due to that the barriers are
stacked in the same direction, with the toe board
upwards according to Figure 5. (Picture showing
optional Fixation Device).
Make sure that the barriers are placed centered in the
Rack to avoid overturning. With this method up to 30
SMBs can be stacked in the SMB Rack, dependent of
the condition of the SMBs. (Figure 6).

Use SMB Rack
10
Method 2
This method is used when absolute maximum number
of barriers must be stacked in each Rack.
Place every second barrier in the opposite direction,
i.e. every second net with the toe board upwards
according to Figure 7, (Picture showing optional
Fixation Device).
Make sure that the barriers are placed centered in the
Rack to avoid overturning. With this method 50 SMBs
can be stacked in the SMB Rack, dependent of the
condition of the SMBs (Figure 8).

SMB Rack
Use
11
The heaviest barrier weighs 19,5 kg and can be
handled by one person, but for frequent
loading/unloading it is recommended to use lifting
equipment or use two persons.
Don’t move or lift the SMB Rack by hand.
Refer to current Health and Safety regulations
applicable to country of use to ensure compliance.
Fixation Device
A Fixation Device is available as option (Art.No.
11040). This is assembled to any of the outer
longitudinal tubes of the SMB Rack and locks the
stacked nets into position, eliminating the need for
strapping the nets. The Fixation Device can be used
with any number of nets up to the maximum 50 pieces
per SMB rack.
The Fixation Device kit further contains a locking pin
(Art.No. 1910) and bolt and nut (Art.No. 100227,
100027).

Assembly of the Fixation Device
Figure 10. Assembly of optional Fixation Device
Attach the Fixation Device with one M10x70 bolt
(Art.No. 100227) and lock nut (Art.No. 100027).
The attachment hole is placed asymmetrically making
it impossible to mount the Fixation Device in the
wrong direction.
Note that the locking pin (Art.No 1910) in the top
cannot be put to place until the SMB Rack is stacked
with SMBs, to secure them, according to Figure 11.
During stacking the nets this locking pin can be stored
in one of the corner tubes.

Stacking of SMB racks
Combisafe recommends that no more than four SMB
Racks are stacked on top of each other.

Use

Stacking of empty SMB racks
During transportation and storage of empty SMB Racks,
the vertical corner tubes described in the assembly
section are removed and the SMB Racks are stacked on
top of each other according to Figure 13. The vertical
tubes are sent along, packed separately.

Identification
Every SMB Rack has a stamped ID-number. This can be
found on one of the foot bars.
The ID number contains :
oManufacturers code (First character)
oManufacturing year (First set of two digits)
oManufacturing week (Second set of two digits)
Figure 14. ID-marking of SMB Rack
This ID-number might be needed in correspondence
with Combisafe.
SAFETY RECOMMENDATIONS
Safety precaution
Before every use :
oAlways check the SMB Racks for any signs of
damage or visible deformation.
oDon’t use SMB racks that don’t pass checks
according to the following check list :

SMB Rack Safety recommendations
17
Check list
oCrack free and notch-free welds
oDeformation
oCorrosion
oDamage
oWear
oVisible ID number
oDeformed or damaged areas around
lifting points
oNo sharp edges
If in doubt, consult Combisafe.
Annual inspection
It is recommended that the box is inspected at least
once a year by a trained competent person unless
stated otherwise in a community country of use.
Storage
Store the SMB Rack in a dry and well ventilated place,
protected from the weather and from all corrosive
substances.
Repairs
May only be carried out by the manufacturer.
Scrapping
When the SMB Racks have failed their safety
inspection, they may be used as scrap steel and can be
recycled as raw material.
