Preface
This manual contains service instructions for the HP 52-inch ID5220N lamp driven rear projection television.
The maintenance procedures in this manual are intended to help isolate defective parts and replace them in the
field or in a Service Depot Environment. The procedures provide instructions for disassembly and
troubleshooting to the board level. There is no intent to service this product at the component level at the
authorized servicer’s location. Circuit boards will be returned to a central location for component-level repair.
This manual is copyrighted and all rights are reserved. This product may not, in whole or in part, be copied,
photocopied, translated, or reduced to any electronic or machine-readable form without prior written consent,
except for copies retained by the purchaser for backup purposes.
This manual includes basic specifications, descriptions of major system assemblies and components, and a
troubleshooting section containing information on how to detect and correct errors. The manual also includes a
flowchart for checking, locating, and replacing board assemblies, to aid users in returning the television to safe,
normal operating condition.

This TV lamp contains a small amount of mercury. If the lamp breaks, adequately ventilate the area

Lamp Life
CAUTION:
•Do not disconnect power until the television has cooled and the fan stops running – up to three
minutes after turning it off. Otherwise, you might shorten the life of the lamp.
•When power is removed from the television, wait more than two minutes before attempting to turn
on the television. Otherwise, you might shorten the life of the lamp.

Disassembly Procedures
This chapter describes how to disassemble the TV’s components and subsystems.
WARNING!
Before performing any type of service or repair on any television, turn the unit off and disconnect its AC
power cord from the power source.

8 Disassembly Procedures
General Repair Procedure
Follow this general procedure in servicing the TV.
1. Use this manual’s troubleshooting information to find the assembly that is the probable cause of the
observed/reported problem — see “Troubleshooting Flowcharts” on page 41 and “LED Error Codes” on
page 51.
2. Once you know the assembly to replace, use the “Part Replacement Chart” on page 9 to determine the
parts you’ll need.
3. Use the following list to find the procedure for replacing the assembly.
4. When repair is complete, use the qualification procedures on page 57 to verify that the TV has been
returned to proper operating condition.

Part Replacement Chart
The following chart shows the components you will need to replace when replacing a particular assembly.
Note: Reassembly is generally done using the same procedure as disassembly, but in reverse order, except where
noted at the end of the disassembly instructions.

Removing the Rear Cover
1. Remove the thirteen #10 Torx screws from the back of the TV, as indicated below. Remove the strap mount
using the adjustable wrench (not indicated).
2. Remove the rear cover.

Removing the Lamp Chassis Assembly
1. Remove the two screws holding the corner brackets and remove the brackets.
2. Unplug the side connectors.
CAUTION:
Be careful not to pull on the connectors or cables.
3. Pull the chassis partway out of the unit to access the speaker cables and connections.

4. Unplug the speaker connectors.
CAUTION:
Be careful not to pull on the connectors or cables.
5. Place the interlock switch inside the chassis.
6. Slowly pull the chassis straight back and remove it from the TV.

Opening the Chassis Assembly to Access the Power Supply and Ballast
Module
1. Remove the two #10 Torx screws.
2. Remove the two ½-inch F56 nuts securing the “F” connectors to the plate, the two strain relief screws, and
the five Philips screws along the top of the chassis cover plate.

3. Remove the 18 #10 Torx screws from the top of the enclosure, and disconnect the ballast power cable from
the cable holder.
