Introduction
The 10457-009 Card Rack Assembly is a component of the SmartSeries®system, which is used for public
address, intercommunication, and emergency notification.
How to Use the Assembly
APPLICATION
The 10457-009 Card Rack is a 6U height assembly with a universal dc power input. The card rack houses
one Model 69254-002 Master Control Unit and the following printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs)
(quantity can vary depending on system architecture):
•69253-001 Audio Generator Interface PCBA
•69255-001 Page/Party®Interface PCBA
•69256-001 Amplifier Zone Interface PCBA
•69257-001 Access Panel Interface PCBA
Connectors and cable assemblies are used to interface the card rack, the Master Control Unit, and the
PCBAs. The 10457-009 mounts easily into a standard EIA 19-inch rack. The card rack’s universal power
supply has an input range of 38-64 V dc. The universal input provides flexibility, allowing the card rack
assembly to be used in almost all installations.

•Disconnect power before removing the power supply cover.
•Avoid servicing the unit during electrical storms.
•Do not touch uninsulated wires.
Installation Guidelines
1. Notify plant personnel of a system shutdown prior to servicing the unit.
2. Disconnect power before installing or removing the plug-in cards.
3. Do not force plug-in cards into the backplane connectors.
4. Secure plug-in cards with screws.
Mounting
Note:Mounting hardware is not included and must be purchased separately.
Remove the 10457-009 Card Rack from its protective packing. Position the card rack in the 19-inch EIA
enclosure and secure the card rack with the appropriate screws. When installed correctly, J1 and the power
supply should be at the top of the enclosure.

Power
The power supply is mounted on the rear of the 10457-009 Card Rack Assembly. DC power is supplied to
the card rack via the mating connector (GAI-Tronics part number 21924-002) to the J1 connector on the
power supply assembly. The location of the J1 connector and the configuration of the mating connector pin
are shown below. A mating connector and the recommended hardware are supplied with the unit.
Recommended wire size is 18 AWG. If the recommended hardware and wire size are not used, the installer
is responsible to ensure proper mating of the connector.
OPERATION
There are no operating controls on the assembly.
REPLACEMENT PARTS
The 10457-009 Card Rack’s power supply contains an input line fuse. The recommended replacement for
this fuse is a 7.0 A/125 V ac slow-blow fuse.
