thecamera.For20-exposurecassettes(e.g.,IlfordColourFilm)the
exposurecountershouldbesetto23beforetheleadingendofthefilmis
woundthroughthecamera.
Turntherewindknob(3)gentlyclockwiseuntilsomeslightresistanceis
felt,indicatingthatthefilmistaut;thenoperatetherapidwindlever(5)once,
releasingtheshutter(11)first,ifnecessary.Therewindknobshouldturn
anti-clockwisewhenthefilmwindisoperatedandthisindicatesthatfilm
ispassingthroughthecameraintheproperway.Therapidwinder
shouldthenbeoperatedtwicemore,releasingtheshutterbetweeneach
operation;thiswillbringthefirstframeofthefilmintopositionandbring
theexposurecounter(4)to36(orto20inthecaseofcolourfilm).The
exposurecountercountsbackwards andindicatesthenumberofexposures
remaininginthecassette.
EXPOSUREANDFOCUSINGCONTROLS
Thelensisfocusedbyrotatingthefocusingring(8)untilthedistanceof
theprincipalsubject,measuredinfeet,liesagainstthewhitediamond-
shapedindexmarkonthefrontplateoftheshutter.Theaperturemarkings
inredoneithersideofthiswhiteindexshowthezoneofsharpnesswhich
extendsoneithersideofthefocuseddistance,atdifferentlensapertures.
Theshutterspeedissetbyrotatingthemilledouterring(6)onthelens
panelsothatthedesiredshutterspeed,either1/25,1/50or1/200sec,lies
againstthesamewhiteindexmarkasisusedforthefocusingscale.The
