Product Brief
Intel® Entry Storage System SS4200-E
Flexible, reliable, powerful, easy to use storage solution for small business and home networks
Product Overview
The Intel® Entry Storage System SS4200-E is a complete yet flexible hardware and software Network Attached
Storage (NAS) solution that instantly adds storage capacity to small business, small office/home office (SOHO), and
home networks. Powered by software from EMC*, the worldwide leader in Information Management, the SS4200-E
offers an intuitive user interface and an easy four-step setup process. Out-of-the-box RAID and Retrospect* backup
software together deliver the necessary security to protect irreplaceable digital data like business files, photos, videos,
and music libraries. With four USB 2.0 ports and four SATA ports (3 Gb/s), the SS4200-E is a powerful system that
can be connected to most digital devices as well as business and home networks, for shared, centralized data
access.
The Next Big Storage Opportunity: Small Office, SOHO, and Home Networks
In-Stat estimates that by 2009, the average person will have nearly one terabyte of digital data1—data that is usually
stored on a local hard drive or even on a specific device, such as a camera. This astounding growth rate is the side
effect of our now-digital lifestyle, which includes both the paperless office and the digital home. We now use a variety
of digital tools in the workplace, including PCs, PDAs, and industry-specific digital devices like medical imaging or
surveillance systems. Our homes are no different, with digital cameras, video recorders, digital music players,
networked gaming consoles, and home PC networks. Even so, small businesses and consumers have so far been left
out of the network storage fast growing trend. High cost, complexity and a lack of small-network solutions are all to
blame. But these neglected market segments have a critical need to improve data availability to multiple users. And
because most operate without dedicated IT support, few properly protect their data with backup.
For these reasons, industry experts believe that small office and home networks are ripe for network storage. They
now need—and want—solutions that are of enterprise quality but of a cost and function that fits their environment.
Accordingly, these experts predict strong demand for small business and digital home storage and data protection
solutions for many years to come. The Intel Entry Storage System SS4200-E is the ideal solution for this market
segment. It’s easy to use, flexible, reliable, and powerful—all in a package that can be customized by you to fit in
with your product line and meet your customers’ needs.

Easy to Use

4
The Intel Entry Storage System SS4200-E will instantly and easily add capacity to a home or small business network.
All PCs and networked devices are supported, including Apple computers and devices. Through an automatic, easy
four-step configuration process, users will have a single, centralized location for the storage and protection of their
valuable digital data. With one point of access, all users can easily share material without having to maintain separate
copies on each networked machine. With up to four USB 2.0 ports, users may also gather and share their peripheral
devices. Centrally stored games, video and other multimedia applications can be streamed to networked devices
such as the Xbox 360*, Wii*, or MP3 networked devices. The system software will instantly recognize and support
most standards-compliant hardware that is added to the network.
Protected and Reliable
Out-of-the-box RAID and Retrospect backup software together provide the necessary protection for all users’ most
important data. The Retrospect software automatically backs up all networked hard drives to the SS4200-E, which is
then additionally protected by RAID technology. The security and data protection features can be configured to
provide automatic notification when something goes wrong—before valuable data is lost. The Intel three year warranty
and support, coupled with Intel quality engineering and validation provide peace of mind.
Flexible
The SS4200-E was designed with flexibility in mind, allowing you to customize and differentiate your solutions.
Change the flexible shell design to fit into your existing product portfolio, and customize the user interface with your
own logo so that the product is uniquely yours. You can add various capacities of hard drives for varying capacity
solutions. Or include peripheral devices that appeal to your customers.
Powerful
The basic system comes with an industry leading Intel® Celeron® processor 420 at 1.6 GHz for high performance
and power efficiency. There is enough headroom to accommodate as much as three terabytes of data in a RAID 5
configuration. It’s the power and flexibility you need to deliver the features your customers demand.
