Getting Started
Calling From the Satellite Phone in Phone Mode
• To call a landline/cell phone, dial : 00 > Country Code > Area Code > Phone Number
For example : 00 1 941 955 1020 (Do not include dashes or spaces)
• To call satellite phone to satellite phone, dial : 00 > Satellite Phone Number
For example : 00 8816 1234 5678 (Do not include dashes or spaces)
*Follow these steps to enter PTT Mode if your Iridium Extreme PTT device is in Phone Mode:
1. Press the left soft key, labeled Menu.
2. Press the left soft key, labeled Select > Switch to PTT. The transition to PTT Mode takes approximately 10 seconds. “Waiting for
Registration” is displayed on the device after the switch to PTT. To switch back to phone mode, go back to Menu and select Switch to
Phone.
*** A “PTT” designation will appear at the top center of the screen when the transition is complete and the device will identify
your Home Talkgroup at the bottom of your screen. ***
*** If your Home Talkgroup is active when you switch to PTT Mode, your device will enter the talkgroup automatically and the
screen will display the LISTENING or OPEN status. ***
Navigating to Phone Mode to Dial
*If you attempt to dial a phone number while in Push-To-Talk mode, you will receive the following notication: “Dialing not supported.
Must go to Phone mode to dial”.
1. Press the left soft key, labeled Phone to switch to Phone Mode. As you are transitioning, you will be prompted to “Dial number
again when in Phone Mode”.
2. If you want to remain in PTT Mode, press the right soft key, labeled Back to return to the previous screen.
Using SOS
*If you attempt to press the SOS button while in PTT Mode, you will receive the following notication: “WARNING! Must go to Phone
Mode for SOS.”
1. Press the left soft key, labeled Phone, to switch to Phone Mode. While transitioning, you will be prompted to “Press SOS again
when in Phone Mode”. You must press the SOS button again in Phone Mode to successfully initiate an SOS call.
LISTENING
*Your device displays LISTENING when the monitored talkgroup is active, but you are not the one talking.
TALKING
*To talk on a talkgroup, you must rst ensure that you have selected the correct talkgroup as your Home Talkgroup.
1. Push the PTT Button and wait for the Talk Tone (three notes ascending in rapid succession) before speaking. If you are granted the
oor and are allowed to talk, your handset displays TALKING and listeners see LISTENING. When you are the one talking to the
talkgroup, TALKING is displayed on the screen.
2. When TALKING is displayed, the PTT Button is held down and other keys are disabled during use. The device cannot perform other
functions until the PTT Button is released.
***You may hold the oor and communicate with the talkgroup for a maximum of 20 seconds per PTT Button press. If you
have congured your device with Talk Timer Enabled, the time remaining to speak in the current talk period is displayed on
the screen below the Device Name.***
OPEN
*When the talkgroup is active but no one is talking, the screen displays OPEN. This indicates that the oor is available and that partici-
pants may request the oor by pushing and holding the PTT Button.
Talkgroups List
*To change the talkgroup being monitored in Home Mode, navigate to the Talkgroups List screen from the Home State (or the Scan
State when no talkgroups are active).
* The currently monitored talkgroup is highlighted by two side arrows and the Priority Talkgroup, if dened for the device, is denoted by
“!” marks on either side and highlighted by white text on a black background.
1. To change the Home Talkgroup, navigate to the desired talkgroup and select “Join”.
Talkgroups terms
• Priority Talkgroup - Displayed as white lettering on a black background and exclamation points on either side.
• Home Talkgroup - Represented by arrows on either side of the Talkgroup. Stays with Home Talkgroup as user scrolls.
• Cursor / Focus - The highlighted talkgroup appears in a frame. Cursor line is always in the middle of the screen.
• Active Talkgroups - Represented by the active talkgroup names ashing.

PTT Mode Terms
Floor - When a PTT user has been given access to communicate
with the other devices in the talkgroup.
Home State - Allows you to listen to activity on one talkgroup.
IDLE - When a talkgroup is not active in the network, the devices
that have the talkgroup as their Home Talkgroup will display IDLE.
Out of Talkgroup Area - Displayed on the device when the user
pushes the PTT Button but is out of the talkgroup’s dened area at
the time.
Priority Talkgroup - Each Iridium PTT device may have one of its
talkgroups identied as its priority talkgroup. This priority talkgroup
will take precidence for communication over other talkgroups provi-
sioned for the device.
Scan State - Allows you to listen for activity on any of the talk-
groups for which your device is provisioned.
SCANNING - When the device is in the Scan State.
Waiting for Activity - When an Iridium PTT device is in Scan
State and none of the device’s talkgroups are active, “Waiting for
Activity” is shown on the screen.
