Theory
of
Operation
The

isa
state-of-the-artinputdevice.
The
unit
operatesusingultrasonic(veryhighfrequencysound)
and
infraredtechnologies.
The
receivingunitcontains
3
ultrasonic
receivers
andan
infraredreceiver.
The
ringcontains
an
ultrasonic
and
infraredtransmitter.
By
measuring
the
changes
in
the
transmittedsignal,
the
receivingunit
is
able
to
perform
trigonometric
calculations
to
accuratelytrack
the
location
ofthe
ring.
The
infraredsignal
is
used
to
detect
the
activation
ofthe
buttons.

Thissectionexplainsinstallation

installation
is
necessary
for
optimalfunctionality
of
your

Improperinstallation
may
causeinconsistentoperation.
1.
Turn
offthe
computer.
2.
Disconnect
any
othermouse
or
pointingdevice.
3.
Examine
the
computer
to
locate
the
9-pinserialportconnector.
4.
Identify
the
port
asCOM1orCOM2*.
There
maybe
morethan
one.Choose
the
free
port.Unplug
any
othermouse
or
pointing
device
that
maybe
present.
5.
Place
the
receivingunit
ontopofthe
monitor
as
shown
onthe
next
page.
6.
Connect
the
receivingunitcord
tothe
chosenserialport.
7.
Slip
the
ring
on
yourindexfinger.
The
ring
is
suitable
for
both
right-handed
and
left-handed
individuals.
It
should
be
notedthat
the
silverultrasonictransmittermust
be
located
onthe
rightside,
pointing
atthe
receiverunit(seediagrams).

Operation
ofthe

operated
by
naturalhandmovements.
By
moving
your
hand
in
front
ofthe
monitor,opposite
the
receivingunit,
the
cursor
willfollowthesemovements.
The
silver
transmitting
element
should
be
kept
facing
the
receiving
unit
atall
times.
The
pathfrom
the
ring
to
the
receivingunitcannot
be
obstructed,
or
control
ofthe
cursorwill
be
lost
(seediagram).Shouldcontrol
be
lost,
itcanbe
regained
by
simply
returning
yourhand
toan
unobstructed
position
opposite
the
receiving
unit.
Itis
important
to
notethat
oneofthetwo
buttonsmust
be
pressed
occasionally
to
keep
the
power-downfunctionfromactivating.Should
the
unitpower-downduringuse,
the
cursorwillfreeze
onthe
screen
andnot
respond
to
hand
movement.Should
this
occur,
simply
press
a
button
and
controlwill
be
restored.
Note:
In
order
to
extendbatterylife,
the
ringunit
hasa
built
in
power-down
feature.
After
a
period
of
approximately
1
minute
of
non-use,
the
ringshutsdown.
In
order
to
reactivate
the
ring,
press
eitherbutton.

hooptosssimulation.Thisuniquegamereplicates
the
tossing
of
ringsontopoles.Press
the
left
button
to
grab
a
ring
and
release
the
button

release
the
ring.
The
ring
is
tossed
ina
natural
fashion.
This
programworksbestwith
a
sound
card.
The
gameconsists
of3
differentlevels.
•
Level
I isa
simplelevel.
The
goal
istogetas
manyrings
as
possibleonto
the
poles.
•
Level
2
consists
of
coloredpoles
and
coloredrings.
By
throwingringsontotheircorresponding
poles,
the
number
of
pointsreceived
is
multiplied.
Ifthe
ringfalls
ona
pole
of
a
differentcolor,
then
fewer
points
are
received.

Level
3 isthe
mostdifficultlevel.There
isone
moving
pole.

removed

removable
