Theseinstallationinstructionsareapplicableforthefollowingpumpsandusageapplication:
UTILITYPUMP
KJ‐125Series
Theutilitypumpisahandy,easytousetoolforhome,andyardwaterremovalapplicationssuchas
drainingwindowwells,stocktanks,boats,andshallowfloodedareassuchasbasements.Simplyconnect
thepump,toastandardgardenhoseonthedischarge,placethepumpintheareatobedrained,plug
intoanystandardgroundedtypereceptacle(donotstandinortouchthewaterwhilepluggingthepump
inorduringuse!).Andit’lldrainthewaterdowntolowestlevel.

Theutilitypumpisengineeredtomovewaternotwarmerthan40℃only.Pumpfailuresdue
tomud,tar,cement,woodchips,corrosivematerialdamage,orrequestsforreturnfollowing
temporaryusearenotcoveredunderthemanufacturingwarrantyandwillnotbeexchanged,returned
forcreditorrefund.

Theutilitypumphasbuilt‐inthermal
overloadprotectionwhichmeanstheunitwill
automaticallyshut‐offwhenitsensesitcould
reachanoverheatlevel.Oncecooleddown‐
eithernaturallyorbybeingsubmergedina
bucketofcoldwater(5+gallonsforabout20
minutes)‐itwillresetandisreadytopump
again.Oncetheareatobedrainedreaches
lowestlevel,unplugthepump.

3. Unplugthisunitwhenwaterhasdrainedto
lowestlevel.
GETTING THE MOST FROM YOUR UTILITY PUMP
Optimumpumpperformanceisreachedata
maximum25’gardenhoselength.Thepump
continuestoworkatlongerlengths,butthe
flowreducesduetolossoffrictioninthe
longerhoselength.

Makesurethewaterrunssmoothlythrough
thegardenhose‐nokinksorobstructions!

Basically,ifthepump“hums”–itworks.If
thereislittleornomovementofwater,that
meansthereisanairlock(justtipthepump
onitssideandsubmerseinwater).
Orsomethingiscloggingtheunit.Inthatcase,
justtipthepumpupsidedowntoejectany
foreignobjectthenflushwithwater.

Neverplacepumpinwaterorremovefrom
waterwhiletheunitispluggedin!

Remember,thisutilitypumpshasbuilt‐in
overloadprotectionandwillshutitselfoffto
preventover‐heating.Thisisnotpumpfailure
oramanufacturingdefect.

!WARNING ELECTRICALPRECAUTIONS‐Beforeservicingapump,alwaysshutoffthemainpower
breakerandthenunplugpump‐makingsureyouarenotstandinginwaterandwearinginsulated
protectivesoleshoes.Underfloodedconditions,contactyourlocalelectriccompanyoraqualified
licensedelectricianfordisconnectingelectricalservicepriortopumpremoval.

CONDITIONCOMMONCAUSES
A. Pumpwillnotstartorrun.Checkfuse,lowvoltage,overloadopen,openorincorrectwiring,open
switch,impellerorsealboundmechanically,defectivecapacitororrelay
whenused,motororwiringshorted.Floatassemblyhelddown.Switch
defective,damaged,oroutofadjustment.
B. Motoroverheatsandtripsoverload
orblowsfuse.
Incorrectvoltage,negativehead(dischargeopenlowerthannormal)
impellerorsealboundmechanically,defectivecapacitororrelay,motor
shorted.
C. Pumpstartsandstopstoooften.
(Forautomaticmodel)
Floattightorrod,checkvalvestuckornoneinstalledinlongdistanceline,
overloadopen,levelswitch(s)defective,sumppittoosmall.
D. Pumpwillnotshutoff.
(Forautomaticmodel)
Debrisunderfloatassembly,floatorfloatrodboundbypitsidesorother,
switchdefective,damagedoroutofadjustment.
E. Pumpoperatesbutdeliverslittleor
nowater.
Checkstrainerhousing,dischargepipe,orifcheckvalveisusedcenthole
mustbeclear.Dischargeheadexceedspumpcapacity.Loworincorrect
voltage.Incorrectmotorrotation.Capacitordefective.Incomingwater
containingairorcausingairtoenterpumpingchamber.
F. Dropinheadand/orcapacityaftera
periodofuse.
Increasedpipefriction,cloggedlineorcheckvalve.Abrasivematerialand
adversechemicalscouldpossiblydeteriorateimpellerandpumphousing.
Checkline.Removebaseandinspect.
Iftheabovechecklistdoesnotuncovertheproblem,consultthefactory–Donotattempttoserviceor
otherwisedisassemblepump.
