EATURES
Local ceiling fan coil systems allow the flexible use
of available space. For high comfort requirements,
INDULVENT ec ensures draught-free ambient air
flow with high cooling capacity and low sound power
levels. The compact unit employs a fan with energy-
saving EC technology. Cooling capacities of up to 2600
W can be accommodated. Only electrical, cooling water
and condensate connections are required. Suitable for
the installation in all prevalent modular ceilings.
INDULVENT ec performance features
Compact design
Fan, heat exchanger, dust protection, ambient air
temperature sensor and controller are all integrated in a
single housing.
Up to 2600 W cooling capacity (sensible + latent)
per unit for high cooling loads.
Only a cold-water supply and mains voltage
are needed for operation.
Draught-free air circulation
according to DIN EN 13 779, results from the high-
induction, integrated, ceiling air diffuser. Average local
air velocities of less than 0.15 m/s can be achieved.
Housing with internal insulation
using halogen-free closed-cell insulation material.
Fire-resistance classification (BKZ) B2.
Simple operation and maintenance
The folding hinge fitted as standard to the front panel
makes servicing easy.
Easy to clean (VDI 6022)
because all internal parts are easily accessible. Just a few
simple operations and the housing, ventilator, heat ex-
changer, condensate dish etc. are accessible for mainte-
nance and cleaning.
Integral cooling regulation
adapts the cooling capacity to the load situation in a room
by changing the recirculation air flow rate.
Vent-BUS
is an internal communication system which can conect
up to 32 subscribers to a common BUS. Any desired
combination of individual units and master/slave groups is
possible.
Comfortable operation, parameterisation and monitor-
ing
using a PC or a laptop via the USB socket in the front
panel. With the VENT-BUS, any connected unit can be
addressed and parameterised from the USB interface of
any convenient subscriber.
Flexible
Because parameterisation is simple, the works control
parameters can be changed to individual settings when
required. If usage changes, new master/slave groups can
be set up at any time.
Comprehensive equipment
The basic unit includes signal contacts for operation and
fault messages. An external control using a 0-10V DC
control voltage is possible. Condensate pump is fitted as
standard to ensure the reliable removal of any condensate
for construction height 335 mm.

Proper use
The INDULVENT ec ceiling fan cooling unit is intended
for cooling rooms and indoor spaces. When the tem-
perature in the heat exchanger is below the dew point,
the ambient air entering the unit is dehumidified as well
as cooled. The unit incorporates electronic power regu-
lation. The ceiling fan cooling unit must not be used as
a safety component, nor used in situations where it
must provide safety-relevant functions.
Operating location
The unit is intended for use in dry indoor rooms with
ambient temperatures in the range 10-40 °C. The uni t is
designed for use in locations where the air quality is
typical of that found in offices from the points of view of
dust concentrations and the presence of corrosive and
oily substances.
Safety instructions
•Work on the unit shall only be carried out by quali-
fied personnel, and only when the mains plug has
been disconnected (power supply switched off).
•The unit shall only be operated when the front plate
is closed.
•When the front plate is open there is a risk of inju-
ries from rotating parts (fan).
•Assembly and installation of the units and compo-
nents shall only be carried out by qualified person-
nel.
•Installation, connection and operation of the units
and components must be within the conditions for
application and operation as specified in the operat-
ing instructions, and comply with valid regulations.
•The operational safety of the units and components
is only guaranteed for proper use for units in their
fully assembled state.
•Do not operate units or components with evident
defects or damage.
•Installation, repairs and maintenance shall be car-
ried out exclusively by authorised specialist person-
nel; visual inspections and cleaning can be under-
taken by the user. When working on the fan, even
after the mains plug has been disconnected, there
may still be dangerous voltages present due to re-
sidual charge in the capacitors in the motor unit. For
this reason wait at least five minutes after discon-
necting before performing any work on the motor
unit.
•Before carrying out maintenance or repair work on
the fan, allow time (at least five minutes) for the
electronics housing to cool sufficiently; it is located
directly above the fan. Danger of burns!
•The units and components must not be subjected to
mechanical loads, extreme humidity or direct sunlight.
•It is forbidden to operate the units in areas in which
explosive atmospheres may occur.
•Installation in aircraft or railcars is forbidden without
approval from the manufacturer.

Front plate
The front plate is divided into two guide zones. In the
centre of the front plate there is a round air-inlet open-
ing with a dust-protection filter behind it. In the outer
region, there is a rotationally symmetrical hole pattern,
which incorporates proven, highly inductive INDULCLIP
air guide elements.
Air flow paths
A radial fan draws warm room air into the unit through
the central air inlet in the front plate. This air flows in the
inlet port through a dust filter to protect the internal
parts against the build up of dust and dirt.
The annular heat exchanger cools the recirculation air
drawn in to a temperature which is determined by the cool-
ing water. The outer part of the front plate guides the
cooled recirculation air back into the room through highly
inductive elements to ensure draught-free comfort.
Below the heat exchanger there is a dish for any conden-
sate that collects; the condensate either drains away down
natural gradients or is removed by an integral condensate
pump.
The temperature of the ambient air entering the unit is
recorded by an internal room temperature sensor. The
integrated electronic controller reacts to this ambient air
temperature or to an external control signal. By changing
the speed of rotation, and so the volume flow of recircula-
tion air, the cooling capacity is continually adapted to the
cooling load of a room.
Example of parameter setting
Function of the integral electronic controller in stand-
ard automatic operation
If several units are operated in the same control zone, one
master unit can control up to 31 slaves units on the two-
wire BUS (Vent-BUS). The master sets the speed of rota-
tion of all connected slave units on the basis of the ambient
air temperature it measures.

The electrical connections and the internal electronics
are located on the central controller PCB in the terminal
box.
For starting up, the INDULVENT ec ceiling fan cooler
requires an overload protection circuit breaker Type C
to EN 60898, DIN VDE 0641 Part 11. The maximum
power requirement during operation is 70 W per unit.
We recommend that not more than ten units are con-
nected to any one circuit breaker, so as to prevent the
circuit breaker tripping out when starting up.
For power supply, for connecting remote switching
points, operation and fault-message contacts, and for
communication, there are coded connection sockets.
The appropriate mains connection plug is included in
the scope of supply.
The electrical connection of a unit shall only be carried
out by a qualified electrical specialist.
When commissioning a unit and when carrying out any
service operations that may be needed, access to the
electrical connection box is not necessary. All desired
settings can be carried out via the USB interface on the
front plate using a laptop computer. A software CD with
installation and operating instructions is included with
every delivery (the software can also be downloaded at
www.kieferklima.de).

I
NSTALLATION
Installation / suspension from the bare ceiling is by means
of a sufficient number of adequately dimensioned threaded
rods or rapid hangers. Units must be mounted so that they
are freely suspended and not preloaded, and there must be
provision for thermal expansion. The transmission of vibra-
tions and structure-borne noise to the building must be
avoided; they can lead to acoustic problems. There must
be a space of at least 25 mm between the upper surface of
the unit and the lower surface of the bare ceiling.

Installation - minimum spacing
The following minimum distances to building features
must be observed to provide space for maintenance
and repair work within the intermediate ceiling.
Access hatches
All regular maintenance work can be carried out without
an opening in the intermediate ceiling. For replacement
of the controller or the heat exchanger, however, a
suitable access hatch must be provided. The optional
through valve is supplied loose. It is therefore not pos-
sible to make a recommendation regarding where an
access hatch should be provided.
D
ISPLAY AND PARAMETERISATION
The INDULVENT ec comfort ceiling fan coil system has
an internal BUS, which is based on an RS 485 two-wire
interface. Every unit on the BUS can be called up, inter-
rogated, and parameterised from any other BUS sub-
scriber.
Via the USB socket on the front plate, you can connect
an INDULVENT to a laptop without opening the unit.
The necessary operating and parameterisation software
and a description are on a CD supplied with the unit. An
installation assistant helps set up the program. Once a
connection has been made, the unit can be parameter-
ised using the graphic user interface. All the settings
necessary for operation of the unit can be read and
changed. When necessary an updated version of the
operating software (firmware) can also be installed.
For more information about INDULVENT ec PC soft-
ware, please see our detailed software description at
www.kieferklima.de. On request we will send you the
software description by post.

F
UNCTIONS OF THE CONTROLLER
Every ceiling fan cooler can be operated either as an
individual unit or as part of a BUS network. Using Vent-
BUS, up to 32 subscribers can be grouped together.
The operating characteristics are determined by individ-
ually adjustable operating parameters:
- room air temperature T1 "minimum cooling"
- room air temperature T2 "maximum cooling"
and the
- recirculation air flow V1, "min. recirculation air flow
at T1"
- recirculation air flow V2, "max. recirc. air flow at T2"
In addition, the following can be selected:
- constant recirculation air flow Vk1, and
- constant recirculation air flow Vk2.
Function of the digital controller
In automatic operation, the INDULVENT power regula-
tion reacts either to signals from the temperature sensor
in the inlet port, to an external 0-10 V DC signal, to
information from the internal VENT-BUS, or to a remote
switch (optional). Parameterisation during commission-
ing determines which signal is the command variable.
Function in Automatic Mode
When the ceiling fan cooler operates in automatic
mode, the controller varies the speed of rotation of the
recirculation fan according to the measured temperature
of the inlet air (ambient air temperature), and so adjusts
the recirculation volume flow needed for this load case.
Works settings of control parameters
T1
= 23.0 °C T2
= 26.0 °C
V1
= 150 m³/h V2 = 470 m³/h
Operation with an external control voltage
In this operating mode, the target value is not set auto-
matically, but is defined by the limits of the external
control voltage Y1 and Y2. The speed of rotation of the
recirculation fan is then controlled between the limiting
parameters V1 and V2. In this way the amount of cool-
ing provided to the room is varied.
Works settings for control parameters
Y1
= 2.0 V Y2
= 10.0 V
V1
= 150 m³/h V2 = 470 m³/h
Operation with fixed switching points Vk1 and
Vk2
When the ceiling fan cooler is set from a remote switch-
ing point to VK1 or Vk2, then the unit runs at a constant
recirculation volume flow, independent of the actual,
measured ambient temperature; the recirculation vol-
ume flow can, however, be set using the parameterisa-
tion software.
Works settings for the switch steps
Vk1 = 200 m³/h Vk2 = 350 m³/h
Display of operating modes
As explained on pages 4 and 5, every unit has two
signal diodes which display the current status. The
various signals and their associated operating statuses
are given in the table below:

Adjustable parameters
The operating characteristics of the comfort ceiling fan
coil system are determined by eight individually adjust-
able parameters: The works settings are given in the
Section “FUNCTIONS OF THE CONTROLLER”on page
12.
The works setting are intended for normal applications
in offices. For special and unusual applications, the
adjustment of some parameters can be helpful.
Setting limits for parameters
T1
= 18 - 26 °C
T2
= 24 - 32 °C
V1
= 100 - 300 m³/h
V2 = 300 - 470 m³/h
Y1

= 5 - 10 V
Vk1 = 100 - 470 m³/h
Vk2 = 100 - 470 m³/h
Master - slave operation with Vent-BUS
Up to 32 subscribers can be connected in a Vent-BUS
group. Communication within the Vent-BUS takes place
on a two-core BUS cable, which must be installed by
the owner of the building. It connects all units that be-
long to the data BUS in series. For this wiring we rec-
ommend a twisted, screened two-core cable to specifi-
cation LICY 2 x 0.25 mm². The maximum permissible
lead length in the BUS is 100 m. The controller PCB in
the electrical terminal box has two pre-installed terminal
blocks (A-B, AA-BB) for this purpose. Wiring must be
carried out as shown in the diagrams on pages 10 and
11. Within a hard-wired VENT-BUS, groups can be set
up as required at any time and configured to operate in
parallel. The parameterisation software is used for this
purpose.
A special feature of Vent-BUS is that the parameterisa-
tion of any subscriber can be carried out from any con-
venient INDULVENT ec connected to the BUS. This
offers the advantage that, for example, sensitive rooms
do not have to be entered for setting up operations.
There are no longer master-slave dependencies in the
conventional sense with this system. Because every
Vent-BUS subscriber can read the control signals:
- measured ambient temperature
- setting of the remote switch, or
- setting of an external control voltage
of any other subscriber, when parameterising a particu-
lar unit it is only necessary to define which signal and,
where appropriate, which remote switch on the BUS it
should react to - to its own control signal for an individ-
ual unit or a “master”, or to an external signal if it is a
“slave”.
In spite of their being in a group, all units remain indi-
vidually adjustable. Although the command signal for a
group is made available centrally, the setting parame-
ters such as start point (T1, Y1) , end point (T2, Y2),
maximum power, start volume flow (V1) and end vol-
ume flow (V2), and also the constant volume flows
(Vk1) and (Vk2) when a remote switch is installed, can
be adapted to local conditions on each unit.

WATER CONNECTION
There are two connections with ¾" external threads on
the heat exchanger for the cold-water supply.
•When making the cooling-water connections, always
hold the hexagon on each nipple with a suitable
wrench to prevent damage to the internal piping due
to, for example, excessive torque.
•For ease of servicing shut-off valves should be fitted
in the feed and return lines.
•For correct setting of the water volume flow, appro-
priate regulating valves should be installed.
•In addition an air-bleed valve should be installed in
the feed line at the highest point.
•Piping must be installed so that no loads are applied
to the ceiling fan cooler.
•Valve drives must not be installed inverted.
•For condensing operation valve groups and piping
must be provided with vapour-diffusion-resistant in-
sulation.
•The maximum permissible operating pressure of the
heat exchanger is 10 bar.
Please note:
When the electric power supply (mains voltage) is
switched off, it is essential that the cold water supply is
interrupted. Otherwise damage may be caused by over-
flowing condensate.
We recommend:
Use the operating status relay to control the through
valve; this ensures that the cold water supply is only
active when the unit is running (page 9). A suitable ¾“
through valve with thermal actuator is available as an
optional accessory.

HROUGH VALVE
For switching off the cooling water when the recircula-
tion fan is at a standstill, a ¾“ through valve is available
as an option. This valve can be switched from the oper-
ating status relay. The valve has a thermal positioning
drive (230 V) and is normally closed.

Please note:
When installing the valve, observe the installation
guidelines and the valve manufacturer’s installation
instructions.
C
ONDENSATE DISH
The INDULVENT ec comfort ceiling fan coil system is
fitted with a plastic dish for the collection and drainage
of accumulating condensate. The condensate dish can
hold about 3.5 litres and has a sloping base with a
drainage sump so that the very small quantities of water
which remain will dry quickly.
C
ONDENSATE DISPOSAL
When the temperature in the heat exchanger is below
the dew point, condensate may be formed during cool-
ing. Below the heat exchanger there is a dish with a
condensate pump and a float switch (only for model
335mm-high). To prevent damage from condensate
build-up and the dish overflowing, observe the following
instructions:
•The condensate line must be installed by the cus-
tomer with a fall of at least 2 %.
•If the level of the condensate line at the unit is above
the drain connection on the unit, the line must be
taken vertically upwards, and then with a fall to the
drain.
•Condensate lines installed external to the unit must
be resistant to corrosion by condensate. Preferably
plastic or stainless steel tubes should be used.
•The condensate line should be unobstructed from
the unit to the drain. If the condensate is disposed of
in a waste-water drain, install a siphon to prevent
odours.
•If the unit is operated in an area where outdoor
temperatures below 0°C may be expected, ensure
that the condensate line is protected against frost. If
necessary the condensate line should be heated.
The discharge line should have a flexible connection
to the unit, so that the condensate dish can be re-
moved for regular maintenance.
•When the installation is complete, check that the
condensate flows freely and that the line does not
leak.
•Parts that come into contact with condensate should
be regularly cleaned and maintained.
•On completion of maintenance and cleaning opera-
tions, check that the condensate pump operates cor-
rectly by adding water to the condensate dish.
•The relevant regulations, DIN standards and DVGW
Work Sheets must be observed at all times.
Please note:
The maximum flow rate of the condensate pump varies
with the level and quantity of condensate. External
influences such as air pressure on the outlet, dirt and
wear can result in reduced performance. The maximum
permissible line length to a free discharge is 6 m. The
tube fitted to the unit in our works is 1.1 m long.

OLDING HINGE FOR EASY SERVICING
For easy maintenance the front plate has two folding
hinges. These hold the front plate and have springs to
press it against the foam seal of the housing. To open
the unit, the quick-action fastener is unlatched by turn-
ing it through 90°, and the front plate pulled gently from
the housing and swung downwards. When the work is
finished the front plate is closed and the quick-action
fastener re-latched.

ILTER FLEECE
Check the filter fleece for dirt at regular intervals, at
least every six months. If there is severe build-up of dirt,
change the element. To do this, open the front plate and
replace the element, which is secured to the side of the
inlet port with loop-and-hook tape. The filter fleece is
available as a spare part. If filter cloth from another
manufacturer is used, the performance of the unit may
be reduced and noise increased.
F
AN UNIT
The fan is maintenance-free. If, however, during a visu-
al inspection dirt is found on the surface of the fan, it
can be removed with a damp cloth.
C
ONDENSATE DISH
Once a year the condensate dish must be cleaned
using a slightly moistened cloth and a commercially
available, neutral cleaner. To do this open the front
plate and undo the four screws (10 A/F) with red mark-
ings. Before the dish can be removed, the USB cable
must be freed from its adhesive base. For cleaning,
remove the sheet-metal part that is bonded to the con-
densate dish downwards out of the unit; after cleaning
re-assemble in the reverse order and secure the USB
cable again.
On the 375m-high model you must first undo the com-
pression fitting on the dish before the dish can be re-
moved. To undo the compression fitting you need 19
A/F and 22 A/F open-ended spanners. After cleaning
pour some water into the condensate dish to check that
the connection does not leak and that condensate
drains properly.
C
ONDENSATE PUMP
/
FLOAT MODULE
The float module of the condensate pump must be
cleaned once a year. To do this, first remove the con-
densate dish as described above, then unplug the float
module from the condensate pump. Next, take the float
module from its mounting, rinse it in clean water, and
replace it. On the 375m-high model (gravity discharge)
you must first dismount the condensate line and then
replace again it after cleaning the float module. On
completion of maintenance and cleaning operations,
check that the condensate pump operates correctly by
adding water to the condensate dish.
H
EAT EXCHANGER
The recirculation air drawn in is filtered before it flows
through the heat exchanger, so that there is normally no
significant soiling as long as the filter fleece is changed
regularly. If, however, the heat exchanger is dirty, clean
it carefully with a brush. Take care that the aluminium
fins are not damaged during cleaning!

The cooling capacity depends principally on:
•Parameter settings
•Fan speed selected by the control system or manually
•Ambient air temperature and humidity
•Cold water supply temperature and cold water mass
flow
Determination of the cooling capacity using graphs or
formulas is therefore laborious and prone to error.
The speed of rotation of the fan changes continually
according to the ambient air temperature, as does the
cooling capacity during condensing operation.

Due to the numerous parameters, please contact our
