4.2. Loading
The camera is loadedwithafilm in standard magazines.
The film should be pulledout fromthe magazinewithout difficulty and jamming.
The camera maybe loadedindaylight (preferably inslightlylighted places or at least in one's ownshadow).
Turnlever19of thecameraback lock to the positionin whichared markappears.Shiftthe camera back down through
about 7mm and remove it.
If, in doing so, the framecounter has failed to returnto the initial position,cock thecamera shutter and depress therelease
button (withthe front cover fully open).
Be sure that thefilmis pulled out from the magazine without difficulty. Insert magazine 25loaded with film into the camera
left-handseat.Fix the filmon spool 26 by threading thefilm endunder the spoolring. Inso doing,tooth27of thespool
must get into the filmperforationwindow.
If necessary,the film canbetighted by rotating thetake-upspool. Reinstall the cameraback. Turnlever19of the camera
back lock to the position in whichthe red mark disappears.
Set the loaded film sensitivity by turning knob 23 until the sensitivityvalue of thefilmin scale 20 coincides with index 24.In
doing so, thefilm sensitivity value is set into theexposuremeter and is takenintoaccountin the process of the exposure
determining and automatic time setting.
If theloaded film sensitivity is not marked inscale 20set the nearestleastvalue (e.g.,set number 45for 65 units of GOST).
If givenon the packing film sensitivity is inDIN, ASA,ISO units use the Table given below.

Cocking the shutter andtransporting thefilm throughone frame is carried out by doubleturning lever12 as faras it will go.
Forthe levercomes back straight to its initial positionaccompany its movement witha finger.
To set thefirst frame, windup thefilm endexposed inloadingonspool26.Forthis fully openfront cover5.Indoing so,
release button10 becomes released.
The windingof theexposed film endis carried out by transporting the filmwiththe further depressingof therelease button
after each frame till the figure"0"is set opposite the index in framecounterwindow11.

Whenthe camera hasbeenloaded correctly, film rewinding knob 14rotates upon, cocking the shutter. Should the film have
been wound uploosely,knob14 mayfail to rotate at the first pictures.
To avoid overloading the film transport mechanism at cocking the shutter,itis recommended not to press the cameraback
and hold it by the uppercoverwiththe left hand.
4.3. Shooting
The shooting process comprises thefollowingjobs:
openingofcamerafront cover;
shutter cockingandfilm rewinding;
diaphragm setting;
lens focusing;
viewing and framing;
shutter releasing.
Upon the full opening ofthe camera fron cover the lens movesout to theoperating positionand release button 10becomes
free of interlocking.
As has beenmentioned above, theshutter cocking and thefilm rewending are carried out by double turning of film lever 12.
Indoingso, the framecounter scale turns throughone division.
Set the diaphragm byturning ring 8 until the index on it coincides with the selected value in diaphragm scale 9.
Availablein the viewfinderare ashutterspeed scaleandan indicator pointer. The scale from 1/500to 1/30 covers the
exposuretimerangein which you arerecommendedto take pictures without atripod.Atthe exposuretimesof over 1/30s
the indicator pointes swaysbelowthe"30" markin the lower hatched sector.If theindicatorpointer readsabove the "500"
mark in theupperhatched sector, reduce the aperture so as toavoid over- exposure inshooting.
Incase the indicatorpointerreads above the "500" mark the shuttermaynot operate (blind exposureis produced).
x(it is shown by two arrows inthe picture).
Selecttheexposure timedepending onthe subject to be photographed by varying thediaphragm aperture.
Remember that theshutter after being released may remain in openpositionif the photographing is carriedout under slight
lightwhen theexposurevalueis morethan 4s. This indicatesthat thephotography conditionsdo not correspond to the
control system design limits.At thenext shutter cockingthe camera doesnnotfail to operate.
Note.to eliminate the indicator pointer sealing initsextreme positions raponthe viewfinderuppercover.
Focus the lens by turningring 6until the distancevalue to thesubject to be photographed coincideswith the index in scale
7. Probable errors in estimating adistance by eye are compensated bya great focal depthofthelens.
Viewing andframingof thesubject are to be carried outbyobserving its image in the viewfinder field of vision limited by a
luminousframe.
Release theshutter by depressingrelease button 10 smoothly asfar as it will go.
You arerecommended totake pictures at the exposuretimes from 1/30 to 4 s withuse of a tripod.
The camera tripod nut is provided with thread 1/4".
4.4. CameraUnloading
Depress button22 and takehandoff. The button must be fixed in thedepressed position. Foldback handle 15androtate it
in the directionof the arrow until complete rewinding of the film into themagazinewhich canbe noticed by a sharp decrease
in the force required for rotation.

5. FLASHLIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY
Whenphotographing with theKIEV-35A, you can use various flash lamps (X-synchronization) provided witha cableless joint
to thecamera. Thecentralcontact is availablein yoke 13in thecamera for connectionto aflashlamp. Theshutterspeeds
over therangefrom 1/30 to 1/60s in operation with aflash lamp are setautomatically uponconnection of the flash lamp to
the camera.
When photographingwitoutaflash lamp,protect thecentral contact from dirt.Forthispurpose installthe guideyoke insert
as faras itwill goobservingthe arrow directions.When the insertis installed correctly, the camera control systemis cut out.
Whenphotographingwithaflash lamp, cock the shutter atonce after theshot is made. Otherwisethelampmay flash
spontaneously whenthechargeis accumulated.If the shutter is released the lamp may flashupon opening thecamera front
cover.
Suchflashes donot cause the film exposure so inthis casetheshutter does not operate.
6. REPLACEMENT OF POWER SOURCE
The cells ofapowersource orabattery ensurethe shootingwithabout 20magazines duringone year.
If in the shootingunder normallightingconditionsthe shutter fails to operate upon pressing onthe release button andthe
indicatorpointerfailsto deviate or deviates obviously incorrectly, you are required to replace thepowersource.
Unscrew cover4and removethe power source fromitsseat. Install aservicable powersource intoseat 29 as specified in
the subsection4.1.
7. CARE
Store thecamerain thecase in thedry place. Protect it from dirt,dust, moisture, abrupt impacts and joltingsincethis can
result in damaging the mechanism.
Avoid overheatingthecamera:keep it awayfrombright solar radiation, hot sand, etc. This canresult indamaging the film,
power source andinappearance oferrors insetting theexposure time.
When shooting in frosty weather,do not leave the camera in theoutdoor air, carry itunder your outdoor clothes andtake it
out only for photographing, so the cells of a powersource operate normally under above-zerotemperature.
