To enjoy all the new features of your new player, always make sure it has the latest firmware
installed. By updating your player, new features not described in this manual can be added
and some features described in this manual can be altered or removed. The number of the
current firmware can be obtained by pressing the setup button on the remote. It is located
on the top left corner of the screen. The latest firmware is available from our website: www.
kiss-technology.com/software. Refer to the "Updating the player" section of this manual or the
website's online guide for in-depth guidance.

Connecting your KiSS DP-558 DVD player to your amplifier can be done using any of the cables below.

Equipment required
• A router, with a built-in switch or a separate switch/hub.
• 2 or 3 straight Ethernet cables.
• A Windows PC with an Ethernet connection.
• The KiSS PC-link program.
Step-by-Step Guide
1 Connect the player to the router’s built-in switch or an external switch/hub which is connected to the router.
2 Connect the PC to the router’s built-in switch or an external switch which is connected to the router.
3 Check that your Internet connection is working. If any problems occur, contact your ISP (Internet Service provider).
4 Install KiSS PC-Link on the PC and select the content to be shared with your player.
5 Open KiSS PC-Link, select the info tab, and write down the IP address displayed.
6 Start the player, select MENU and then select IP Configuration. Check that DHCP Client is ON, then select “Enter IP for KiSS PC-Link” in the KiSS PC-Link menu.
7 Enter the IP address found in the info tab of KiSS PC-Link.
8 On the player, select MENU, then KiSS PC-Link and select Audio, Video or Picture. The list will be displayed.

Network with a PC using Internet connection sharing
Equipment required
• Switch/hub and 2 straight cables or a crossed cable.
• A windows PC with an Ethernet connection.
• The KiSS PC-link program.
Step-by-Step Guide
1 Connect the player to the PC with a crossed cable or to a switch/hub connected to the PC.
2 Connect the PC to the Internet (LAN/Modem/ADSL).
3 Check that your Internet connection is working. If any problems occur, contact your ISP (Internet Service provider)
4 On the PC select Network Connection in the Control Panel. Open Properties for the network connection that is connected to the Internet.
5 Select Advanced where you enable Internet connection sharing.
6 Install KiSS PC-Link on the PC and select the content to be shared with your player.
7 Open KiSS PC-Link, select the info tab, and write down the IP address displayed.
8 Start the player, select MENU and then select IP Configuration. Check that DHCP Client is ON, then select “Enter IP for KiSS PC-Link”.
9 Enter the IP address found in the info tab of KiSS PC-Link.
10 Select MENU, then KiSS PC-Link and select Audio, Video or Picture. The list will be displayed.

Possible errors.
- Cable problem, check that there is light in all the ports of the switch/hub
- There is a firewall installed on the PC which blocks the ports used by KiSS PC-link (port 8000 must be open)
- The player and the PC are not on the same Subnet (problem with playing video)
- Your PC has been assigned a new IP address from the DHCP server. It may differ from the one entered in the player. (Using a static IP on the PC will counter this)
- KiSS PC-Link has to be running for the player to access the data

Step-by-Step Guide
1 With a direct Internet connection, you can only access the online features such as WebRadio.
2 Start the player, select MENU and then select IP Configuration, check that DHCP Client is ON.
3 It will be impossible to use KiSS PC-Link, as all data have to go out to your Internet connection and back again.
4 Your only option will be to use a router.

1 Connect the player to the PC with a crossed cable or to a switch connected to the PC.
2 On the PC select Network Connection in the Control Panel.
Open Properties for the network connection that is connected to the Player.
3 Select Properties for the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
4 Select “Use the following IP address” and enter the IP address below:
IP address 192.168.0.1
Subnet mask 255.255.255.0
5 Select MENU on the player and set the DHCP client to OFF
6 Select “Enter Static IP Address for the player”
7 Then enter the following addresses:
IP: 192.168.000.002
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.000
Gateway: 192.168.000.001
DNS: 192.168.000.001
8 Select MENU, then IP Configuration. Choose “Enter IP for KiSS PC-Link”.
9 Enter the following IP: 192.168.000.001
10 Select MENU, then KiSS PC-Link and select Audio, Video or Picture. The list will be displayed.

If your DVD Player is correctly connected, the language selection menu will appear

- If this menu does not appear when you start the DVD Player, re-check the cable connections.
- You can always go back and start again if you happen to do something wrong, Just press on the setup button of your remote, go to misc. settings and select Quick Setup.
From a list, choose the part of the world you live in. Then select your country followed by date and time.

Select between standard TV type (4:3) or wide screen TV type (16:9). If 4:3 is selected you will be asked how you wish to view
wide screen films. Select either Letterbox or Pan/Scan.
Specify how your DVD Player is connected to your TV or monitor. Selecting Component will give you the choice of configuring
High Definition or Progressive Scan. By choosing this option, you will be asked to select a resolution from a list. By choosing "No",
you will go to the next Quick Setup screen.

- Re-Tuning your Player’s TV channels will erase all existing TV channels already in memory.
- None of the recording functions will work if the Player is not correctly tuned
6. Hard Disc Formatting
6TV tuning...
Setting your TV channels can be done at different stages and from different menus. The easiest remains automatic tuning, while some users might like to use some of the more advanced
functions.
Automatically search all TV channels available on the TV tuner's frequencies. When scanning has been completed, new channels
are all stored in the player's memory in the order they have been found.
Automatic tuning
This last screen will ask you to choose if you wish to tune your TV Channels automatically. Pressing "Continue" will start
autoscan, "Skip" will exit the Quick Setup.
7. TV Tuner selection
Once done, you will be asked to format (erase) your Hard Disc. KiSS advise you to do this the first time you connect your player.
Remember that formatting the hard disk will delete all content held on it.
5. Audio selection
Select which audio output is used on your DVD Player. The default Audio selection should be stereo unless your player is
connected to a digital amplifier.

7Advanced setup...
Accessing the advanced setup menu by pressing SETUP on the remote control will enable the user to edit and modify the settings of the DVD Player as follows:
This menu enables you to specify the country in which this player is being used. You can also edit the time zone where you are
situated. This will help the DVD Player select the correct TV system and language. The Player's menu language as well as the
different default DVD languages can be set in this section.
Regional settings
TV tuner
Scan and store all TV Channels automatically or manage individual channels manually. Select TV system and specify how
manually tuned channels are stored.
Audio output
This menu enables you to specify the audio connection used.
Video output
This section enables you to configure video output. Your Television display type can be modified as well as the TV system or the
choice of video output. MPEG-4 Fullscreen option permits playback of video scaled to fit the screen.

TV channels manager
Pressing the "Manage Channels" section in the TV Tuner menu enables you to edit the TV Channels. Selecting a channel is
done using the MARK button of the remote. ENTER will get you through a set of options while deleting is done with the ERASE
button.
Choose the Ethernet Configuration menu to setup a network connection between your PC and your DVD Player. Connecting your
DVD player to a network enables you to listen to Internet radio stations with WebRadio and play audio/video/ pictures files from
your connected PC with KiSS PC-Link.
This menu also give you the possibility of testing your Internet Connection, enabling you to check if every cable is properly
connected. This vital information will help any relation with KiSS Customer services in case of problems.
Ethernet configuration
The DHCP Client holds the parameters of your Player's Network settings (IP address, Subnet mask, DNS...). Leave this menu "on" if
you have connected your player to a network that involves Internet. This way the player will set the parameters automatically.
"Off" should only be selected if you have a connection that doesn't involve Internet. If you just connect your player to your PC by
a straight cable for example. By selecting "off", you will be asked to enter a static IP address, Subnet Mask, Gateway and DNS.
The numbers should be different than the ones on your PC. We recommend to use the following numbers:
IP Address: 192.168.000.002; Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.000; Gateway: 192.168.000.001; DNS: 192.168.000.001.
You will now be able to establish a connection between your PC and Player.
Setting DHCP Client
The misc. settings available in the advanced setup will enable you to set many different options, such as "Parental Control",
"Display Brightness" or "Screen saver". You can turn the scrolling text on the Player's display "on" or "off" by selecting "Demo
mode".
You can get your player to tell you if there is a new firmware update available. When this option is enabled, a text saying "New
firmware available" will appear in the right hand corner of your screen in the Avanced Setup menu. You can then go to the KiSS
website to download the latest version of the firmware. Please refer to the "Updating the player" section of this manual to find
out how.
You can also restore the default settings of your player, read legal text in "About the 558" or choose to go back to the Quick
Setup menu.
Misc. settings
You can choose to display time from the display when your player is in standby mode by choosing to turn on Network Timing (NTP
Client) and your country's time zone. This information is taken from the Internet, so your player needs to be connected.
You can also setup the access to your Hard Disk in this menu under "FTP". Please refer to the "Hard Disk" section of this manual
to find out how.

8Playing media...
This product supports the following media: DVD, MPEG-4, DivX, XviD, Audio CDs, MP3, Ogg Vorbis and Jpeg file formats.
Playing Audio CDs, MP3, Ogg Vorbis
- If there is more than one file on a disc, just press ENTER on the remote to display the list. You will then be able to select with the arrows and play.
- Information on the played or viewed file as well as different playback options can be obtained by pressing the LIST button on the remote.
Viewing Jpeg pictures
Playing MPEG-4, DivX, XviD
Any Audio content will start playing automatically on the insertion of a disc. If the player is connected to the Internet, it will also
search for track names on insertion. The content of the disc will be displayed on-screen, the top and bottom arrows enabling
you to select the track to be played. Repeat, Shuffle and Track name search can be turned on and off by pressing LIST on the
remote.
Inserting a disc with Jpeg picture content will automatically start the slide show. The pictures can be rotated with the arrow
buttons on the remote control. Pressing ENTER will display a list of the files located on the disc. Pressing SETUP will display
information regarding the viewed picture. Slide Show time and Shuffle on/off can also be set there. Zooming in a picture can be
achieved by pressing ZOOM on the remote.
The content of an MPEG-4 video disc is played automatically when placed in the Player's drive. The counter on the display helps
you find out where you are in the film. The usual playback functions such are stop, pause, fast forward, time search etc... are
available. Repeat and Shuffle can be turned on or off by pressing LIST on the remote.
Press the EJECT button on the front of the player or on the remote to open the drawer. Place the DVD in it to start it automatically.
After a few seconds the DVD menu will appear. You can naviguate it using the arrows, then press ENTER to access the selected
menu. Technical information about the DVD is available by pressing LIST on the remote control.

9Using main menu... online functions
Press MENU to access the main list of functions, then choose “Online”. It will take you to the extra Internet based features. These features includes listening to radio, getting online
information, electronic program guide... Remember, your player needs to be connected to Broadband Internet for this feature to work.
EPG (Electronic Program Guide)
Player ID
This function will enable you to get the latest online television guide available for your country and TV Channels. You can
browse the channel selector and view programmes by date and time or see what's on later. This feature can be coupled with the
recording functions of the KiSS DP-558.
This menu will reveal your KiSS DP-558 Identification Number. This code is usually a set of 2 letters followed by 9 figures and
2 more letters. When contacting the KiSS Customer's Service, this code will be needed. It can also be found at the back of the
player below the barcode.
KiSS Online
KiSS Online provides you with a number of activities to choose from. This service is interactive, and the number of available
pages and functions will increase with time. By selecting this menu, you will be able to choose between reading online news,
viewing world weather report, getting the latest entertainment, accessing online games and much more.
- Detailed Online guides explaining some of the services are available at www.kiss-technology.com
- These services only work if the KiSS DP-558 is connected to Broadband Internet
WebRadio gives you the possibility to access thousands of Internet Radio Stations. They can be browsed by genre or country from
the main menu. Once in the main section of WebRadio, the navigation is done with the help of the arrow buttons on the remote.
The number of available radio stations to listen to is displayed on the right hand side, while the number of pages available is
situated on the top right hand corner. Choose the genre and the station you want to listen to. While playing, an Info screen will
display the name of the artist and the song at the bottom of the screen.

9Using main menu... recording
We advise you to watch the television through the DP-558. Just use your TV as a picture display while the KiSS DP-558 will be at the center and host all the commands you need to change
channels. It will make it easier and quicker to use the recording functions.
- The KiSS DP-558 encodes movies in MPEG-2 format. (.vob files)
- When a recording starts, a status of the Hard Disk appears on the screen showing you the quality settings selected, the amount of hard disk space left as well as the recording time available.
Accessing recording
Turn the player on, then press MENU. Choose recordings from the list and "Recorded Videos". You will be able to see the list of
the last recorded programs. The programs are shown as a list classified by date and time.
Time Shifting makes it possible to pause live TV if you need to go away from it for any reason. It allows you to pause the running
program and start it again at any given moment. It works by saving the watched TV program on the DP-558's Hard Disk while
the television screen is on pause mode. Just press PLAY/PAUSE. The TV will freeze, recording will start. Press the PLAY/PAUSE
button again to resume watching. You will be able to carry on watching your program while the DP-558 carries on recording. You
can navigate through this on-going recording by pressing the FAST FORWARD and REWIND buttons.
Time Shifting
Turn on the Player and select the desired channel with the Up/Down buttons on the remote. Once the desired channel appears
on the TV screen, press RECORD on the remote. The content from the TV channel is recorded onto the hard disk. When recording
is finished, press the STOP button.
The recording is done in the quality preset in MENU. Choose "Video Recorder" then "Recording Quality". Check the "Setting
Quality" paragraph on the next page to learn how.
Easy recording
Scheduling recording
Like a VCR, the KiSS DP-558 will let you schedule a recording. Press MENU, then select "Video Recorder" followed by "Schedule
a new recording". Use the arrow from the remote to set the date of the recording, its starting time, ending time, the channel
you want recorded and the quality you want it to be recorded at. Check the quality settings chart below if you are unsure of the
quality to set. Select OK to save the recording.

Setting quality
Viewing recording
Specify the recording quality. Choose between:
-Long Play: Records with a medium quality, but doesn't take up so much space on the hard disk.
-High Quality: Records at the highest quality, but takes up more hard disk space.
Please refer to the chart below for quality settings.
Press PLAY/PAUSE on recording to bring up the list of files to play. You can also erase a recording from this menu. If you have a
long list of recordings and you need them all removed, we have placed a shortcut in the list enabling you to delete them all at
once.
Viewing scheduled recordings
This menu item brings up a calendar list of scheduled recordings. It enables you to edit or erase a scheduled program by pressing
play/pause or erase accordingly.

This lets you change the time, date and channel of scheduled recording.

9Using main menu... hard disk
Pressing the MENU button of the remote control while the player is on will open the main menu screen. This screen presents the player’s main functions such as online, recording, hard
disk and network
- Only computer generated files can be copied onto the hard disk. DVDs, audio CDs, VCDs and SVCDs can not be copied
- The FTP access only works if the KiSS Player and the PC are connected on the same network via the Ethernet Port. Check the “PC to DVD Connection” chapter of this manual if you are unsure
Copying and deleting files to the hard disk
Copying: There are two ways of copying files onto the Player's hard disc: From KiSS PC-Link or from an inserted disc. Select the
file to be copied either by accessing KiSS PC-Link from your Player or by selecting it by pressing ENTER on a disc. The selection
is done by pressing MARK on the remote. More than one file can be marked at once. When done, press ENTER. The files will
start copying.
Deleting: Select a file to delete by pressing MARK from one of the hard disk categories. More than one file can be deleted at
once. Once selected, press ERASE from the remote. The files will be removed at once. To delete the entire hard disk, go to the
"Info" category from the hard disk menu and select "Clean up hard disk".
Choosing hard disk from the main menu window will display a browsing list divided into four categories: Audio, Video, Pictures
and Info. Selecting one of the first three categories will display a list of them to choose from. Pressing "Info" will display the
hard disk information such as its full size, used size and available size. Formatting the hard disk is also available by selecting
"Clean up hard disk".
Accessing the hard disk
Go to the Advanced Setup by pressing SETUP on the remote. Go to "Ethernet Configuration", then select "Verify TCP/IP (Internet)
Configuration". Your KiSS Player's IP address will display. It is a 12 digit string separated by "." every 3 digits (ex: 172.168.024.005).
Write down this number for later use. Go back to "Ethernet Configuration", then select "FTP". You will be asked to enter a
password. This will make sure that only you can access it. To make sure you don't lose this information, write the Player's IP
address and the FTP's password in the space below.
Now that the FTP is set on your player, go to your PC. make sure that the two of them are correctly connected to the same
newtork. Check the "PC to DVD Connection" chapter of this manual if you are unsure. On your PC, open your Internet Browser
(ex: Internet Explorer, Netscape, Safari...). In the address panel (where you normally type the address of the web site you want
to reach ex: www.google.com), type the IP address of the player (ex: ftp://172.168.024.005) (See above paragraph). Your browser
will ask you to enter a "User Name", "Password" and "Domain". In the "User Name" section, type: ANONYMOUS. This name is
default and shouldn't be changed. In the "Password" section, type the one you entered on the player (See above paragraph). Leave
"Domain" blank. Click "OK". The Internet Browser now displays the content of your player's Hard Disk. Click a file name to start
downloading it to your PC's Hard Disk.

Accessing your files
- KiSS PC-Link can only be used on a Windows PC running at least Windows XP.
- KiSS MacLink can only be used on an Apple Macintosh running at least OS X 10.2.
- KiSS MacLink is developed by Jonathan Pepin for KiSS Technology. For this reason, this information is provided as help. KiSS will not provide any support on using KiSS MacLink.
- If you have a network of PCs running KiSS PC-Link, they can be selected from your player by selecting “Scan the network for PC-Link hosts”
Network settings
Once the Player and PC are connected, start KiSS PC-Link. The program has been divided into Video, Audio and Picture files.
You can now load files by clicking "Add" or by clicking "Search" if you want the software to look for the files itself. Once this is
done, select "Network" from the main menu and choose Audio, Video or Picture from the list. The files loaded on your PC are
now available to be played or copied on your Player.
KiSS MacLink
As an alternative to KiSS PC-Link for Macintosh users, KiSS MacLink enable you to choose Video/Audio/Picture folders to be
shared between your KiSS Player and your Apple Mac. Its interface is user friendly with just a select button for each type of file,
it can link an unlimited number of folders. KiSS MacLink can be downloaded from the KiSS web site, in the support section under
software: www.kiss-technology.com/software. Click the view button to get a detailed explanation of its functionalities.
In order for PC-Link to work, your PC must be connected to your DVD Player by the ethernet connection found at the back of
the player. Please refer to the PC to DVD Connection chapter of this manual for extra help. The IP address to be entered on the
player is located in the info tab of the KiSS PC-Link software, on the top right-hand side.
KiSS PC-Link is a software program to be installed on a Windows PC enabling the user to view and play audio, video and picture
files from a connected PC on the DVD Player. KiSS PC-Link can only be installed on a Windows PC running Windows XP or later.
Installing KiSS PC-Link: Insert the KiSS PC-Link CD in your PC. The installation software will start automatically. Follow
the on-screen instructions until installation is complete. A shortcut will be created on your desktop. Double click it to start the
program.

11 Updating the player...
KiSS is always keen to update its products to make sure that the user takes advantage of new features or bug fixes. Updates are regularly posted on KiSS’ website in the support section.
When the “Firmware warning” option is activated in the “Misc. Settings” of the “Advanced setup”, a message will appear on the top right corner of your screen in the “Advanced Setup”
when a new firmware is available.

Burning the CD on PC
Installing the firmware
Once downloaded, the firmware file should decompress and open. Put a blank disc in your Mac's drive. KiSS recommends Roxio
Toast to burn the firmware CD. Open Toast and select "Disc Image". Select the firmware file (file end in .iso). Press "Record" and
select the lowest burning speed allowed by your burner. The disc starts burning.
Turn the player on, and insert the firmware CD. Close the drive and restart the player. The firmware CD will boot. Wait until
the KiSS background appears on your TV. Choose between "Full Update" (updates everything) and "Partial Update" (Keeps your
default settings). KiSS recommands a full update. The CD will be ejected when the update is finished. Remove it, and restart the
player. The player is now updated and will start showing the Quick Setup.
Once downloaded, the firmware file should decompress. Put a blank disc in your PC's drive. KiSS recommends Nero Burning
Rom v.6 to burn the firmware CD. Open Nero and select "Disc Image". Choose "All files" and select the firmware file. Choose the
lowest speed allowed by your burner, and press "next". The disc starts burning.
KiSS newest firmwares are available from www.kiss-technology.com website under "support": www.kiss-technology.com/
software. You can easily verify the firmware version running on your player by pressing "Setup". The number is situated on the
top right corner of the screen. If the firmware version from the Internet is newer, you should download it. Make sure you have
selected the firmware for the right player and the correct TV system. (PAL: Europe, Asia; NTSC: USA, Japan)

Resetting
To reset the settings of the DP-558, press the following buttons on the remote control:
“Open”, “Clear”, “1”, “2”, “3”. KiSS Technology A/S reserves the right to change all
settings and specifications without notice.
Important safety information

Overloading can result in fire or electric shock.
• Never insert objects into the DVD player’s cabinet door. They might

Warranty certificate
KiSS provides a twenty-four (24) month warranty from the date of purchase against
material and manufacturing defects. For defects covered by the warranty, the product must
be returned to the dealer that sold the product.
Terms of Warranty
1. The warranty is only valid on presentation of the original sales receipt,
and if the serial number on the product is fully legible.
2. The obligations of KiSS are limited either to repair or replacement
of defective components. The repair or replacement of defective
components is based on an assessment by KiSS. Exchange is only
possible if the repair cannot be performed.
3. Warranty repairs must be carried out by an authorised KiSS dealer, or
an authorised service centre. No remuneration is provided for repairs
performed by unauthorised workshops. Any repairs or damage to the
product caused by unauthorised intervention are not covered by this
warranty.
4. This product will not be considered as being defective, either in
materials or in manufacture, if adaptation to national, local, technical
or safety-related requirements is required in countries other than the
specific country for which the product was originally designed and
manufactured.
5. This warranty does not cover these types of adaptations, and no
remuneration will be offered for these types of adaptations or for any
consequential damages. The warranty does not cover the following:
a) Periodic inspection, maintenance and repair or replacement of parts
resulting from normal wear.
b) Costs connected to transport, disassembly or installation of the
product.
c) Misuse, including use for purposes other than was intended, or

Packaging
If possible, use the original packing material for any shipping. Otherwise, repack the DP-
558 using:
• A reinforced cardboard box, strong enough to carry the weight of the
product.
• At least 6 cm / 2.36 inches of shock-absorbing material around the
product.
• Non-abrasive, dust-free material for the other parts.
• Non-abrasive wrapping for the product. (Dust and dirt cover)
• Repack the product in such a way as to ensure that it cannot shift in
the box during transport.
• No other alternative will be accepted
