G. QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
Q. MyCDpla~,er has both fibre optic and coaxial
outputs. Whichone should I use?
A. Givena choice, weprefer the AT&Toptical link due
to its ability to completelyisolate the groundsbetween
the digital source componentand the Processor. This
minimizesthe possibifity of groundloops in the digital
components.TheAT&Tformat also has the added-ben-
efit of substantially higherbandwidththan coaxor the
standardfibre optic interface. If the sourcedoesnot have
an AT&T,use the Toslinkstandard fibre optic interface.
a~ Will I damagemySTUDIOif I leave the power"ON"
i the time?
" " iscrete analo circuits erform
A. No. TheClass A d _ .g , P.,., .
moreconsistently once they reach thermal equlnorlum.
Thisprocessorhas beendesignedto be left onat all
times. TheSTUDIOdrawsless than 25 watts out of the
ACmains socket.
NOTE:For the protection of your processor werecom-
menddisconnecting the ACcord f?omthe wall outlet
before anyelectrical stormsor if youplan on beingaway
fromhomefor prolongedperiods of time.
Q. DoI have to switch the SamplingFrequencywhenI
go between myCDand DAT?
A. No. YourSTUDIOautomatically senses the input
frequencyand does all necessary switching.

A.Mostlikely there has beena simplemistakein instal-
lation. Checkall connections IN and OUTfromthe

Q. I havesomevery fine audiophile interconnect cable
whichhas superior sonic characteristics. CanI usethis
for mycoaxial digital input?
A.Youmaye.x. perimentwith anyhigh quality cable. Do
note mostauclio interconnectcable is not designedto
carry the ultra highfrequencyinformationof the digital
bit stream.
NOTE:For the STUDIO,we recommendnon-capacitive
coaxial cable whichhas a bandwidthin excess of 10MHZ
andexcellent shielding properties.
Q. Whilelistening to mySTUDIOI experience occa-
sional periods of silence throughmyspeakers. Is my
processor malfunctioning?
A. Dropouts are causedby twoprimaryreasons. First,
drop outs can be caused bydata corruption. Corruptionin
the data maybe due to a poor input connection, damaged
or dirty sourcematerial, or interconnectswhichdo. not
have a wideenoughbandwidth. Thesecond item that
causesthe processorto reset is the presenceof a transient
spike on the incomingACpowerline. Theprocessor is
resetting all of its digital processingcircuits so that it can
be assuredthat all are properly synchronized.Trychang-
ing your source material and checkyour connections..If
these are not the cause, speakwith yourdealer about
obtainingdifferent cabling. If youare usingfiber optics,
and source material andconnectionsare not the problem,
speakwith your authorizeddealer.
Q. SinceI installed the processor in mysystemI havea
lowlevel humthat increases as I turn up the volume.
Therewasno humin mysystemuntil I addedthe proces-
sor. Is the processormalfunctioning?
A. Thefact that there wasno humi.n yoursystemuntil
youaddedthe processor indicates that youhavea
ground-loopproblem.Often changingthe interconnect to
a fibre optic cable will eliminat.e this problem.Thew.ay
the digital processoranddigital sourceare connecteclto
the ACmainsoften can be t-he cause of groundingprob-
lems. Lifting the groundon a specific componentby
meansof a [hree prong to twoprong ACadaptor(cheater
plug) will often solve the probIem.Checkfor loose inter-
connect cables and or bad electrical connections. Consult
yourdealer or Krell for individual systemsuggestionsif
