Danger
Exposure to extremely high noise levels may cause a permanent hearing loss.
Individuals vary considerably to noise induced hearing loss but nearly everyone will
lose some hearing if exposed to sufficiently intense noise for a sufficient time.
The U.S. Government's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has
specified the following permissible noise level exposures:
According to OSHA, any exposure in the above permissible limits could
result in some hearing loss. Ear plugs or protectors in the ear canal or over
the ears must be worn when operating this amplification system in order to
prevent a permanent hearing loss. If exposure in excess of the limits as
put forth above, to insure against potentially harmful exposure to high
sound pressure levels, it is recommended that all persons exposed to
equipment capable of inducing high sound pressure levels, such as this
amplification system, be protected by hearing protectors while this unit is in
operation.

provoquer certaines pertes d’audition.

The Kustom KPM4100 Powered Mixer delivers true versatility, performance, and power- all in a compact and
economical package. It houses its high technology electronics in a rugged steel chassis and is protected by a
vinyl covered wooden cabinet. All of the features you would expect to find in more expensive mixers are
incorporated right here: Balanced microphone inputs with low noise pre-amplifiers, carbon film potentiometers,
tape inputs and outputs, high-quality Digital Effects with an 80 Watt power amplifier.
The typical uses for powered mixers can be strenuous. With setup, tear down, packing and unpacking,
patching and un-patching, it can take its toll on a mixer. Since 1966, Kustom has been building the most
rugged amplifiers in the industry and the KPM4100 has been designed to carry on that tradition. Today, world-
class design means using the most rugged connectors and reliable components and housing them in a rugged
cabinet. Many manufacturers design products for the perfect world rather than the real world. In reality, the real
world has shorted speaker cables, defective speakers, mis-connections, and improper impedances. The
KPM4100 is designed to be tolerant of that imperfect world. With this product, we are able to deliver to you an
amplifier that will ramp up to power within 4 seconds and check itself over to make sure there are no problems
before it allows power to be delivered to the outputs. Also, it will check to see if there are thermal (heat) or
short circuits. If it detects a thermal situation, the unit will shut itself off until the heat dissipates. If it detects a
short circuit, it will continue to pass signal but it will cause the short circuit protection to engage so that the unit
will shut down until the problem is corrected.

INPUT SECTION FEATURES:
3 Pin Low Impedance Microphone Input - This input is for balanced low-impedance microphones.
Phantom power (15 volts) for condenser microphones is always on and available. It has an input
impedance of 1 K ohm. The connector is wired as: Pin 1 = shield; Pin 2 = positive (hot); Pin 3 = negative
(cold)
1/4" Line High Impedance Input - This may be used as either a high-impedance microphone input or a line
level device such as tape players, CD players, effects returns or radios. It will also allow connection from
an electric guitar, bass, or keyboard. It is a 2-conductor input with an impedance of 10K ohms. Both the
high and low impedance inputs may be used simultaneously.
Volume Control - This is the volume control for each channel. It sends the signal to the master mix buss.
Typical operation is between 4 and 8, dependent upon the device(s) on that channel. Please remember
that it acts like a preamp, so if you are using a device that has a volume output control (i.e.: a tape or CD
player) you will need to do some level matching by adjusting the level controls on each unit.
Tone Control - This is to adjust the overall tone of the individual inputs. It is set at 5Khz. Since it is a cut or
boost control, (+/- 15 dB) it will add or diminish presence frequencies.
Effects Control - This is a send control to the effects buss. It controls the amount of effects added to the
input signals.

MASTER SECTION:
Master Volume - This controls the overall volume level of the entire amplifier. Typical operation is
between 4 and 8.
Master Effects - This controls the level of internal effects added back to the mix.
Tape Volume - This controls the level of the playback inputs (RCA jacks on rear panel).
Master EQ Section - These five slide controls are designed to tailor the overall sound
100Hz This control adjusts the amount of low bass frequencies.
350Hz This control adjusts the amount of low mid-range frequencies.
1KHz This control adjusts the amount of mid-range frequencies.
4KHz This control adjusts the amount of high mid-rangefrequencies.
10KHz This control adjusts the amount of high frequencies.
BACK PANEL:
Speaker Out - These are 2 conductor 1/4" speaker outputs. Each one is rated at 8 ohm minimum
impedance. Total minimum load for the amplifier is 4 ohms. You may connect either one 4 ohm, one8
ohm or two 8 ohm speaker cabinets. Do not go below rated minimum impedance.
Line Out - This is a 1/4" 2-conductor line level output. The impedance is 1 K ohm @ -1 0 dBv. It is used
to connect the KPM4100 to either additional power amplifiers or as an additional recording device. This
line level signal is a mirror image of the main outputs.
Tape Record (L/R) - These RCA jacks are for hooking up a tape deck to record from the mixer. Both
channels are summed into mono for compatibility. The signals are taken pre-master section, meaning
that they are without effects or the master tone section, and do not include the Tape In signal. The
impedance is 1 K ohms @ -1 0 dBv.
Tape Play (L/R) - These RCA jacks are for playing a tape deck, CD player or other line level source
through the mixer. The impedance is 10K ohms @ -1 0 dBv.
AC Inlet/Fuse - This is a standard IEC inlet for use with standard voltages from AC wall outlets. It is
grounded and should NEVER have the ground pin removed for any reason. The fuse is located in a
housing just below the receptacle. Replace only with same type and value. To remove the fuse, pull the
tab located above the fuse symbol away from the fuse housing.
Power Switch - This switches the unit on or off. When the unit is powered up, a red LED on the front
panel will come on.
