AIRBUS HELICOPTERS
ENGINE/CARGO FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
HANDLING SECURITY INSTRUCTIONS
A. REASON
L’Hotellier receives on a regular basis extinguishers from its customers without safety caps.
Extinguishers are pressure vessels. As such, they present a risk of ejection in case of accidental percussion
of the burst disc. This can lead to propulsion of the extinguisher, which could cause severe or lethal injuries to
humans, or damages to equipment in the area.
To reduce risk of accidental ejection, Safety caps on extinguisher’s outlets must therefore be in place as soon
as a fire extinguisher is removed from the helicopter, especially during human handling tasks, where the risk
of accidental percussion is increased.
Moreover, for shipping operations, you are a “shipper” according to the European Agreement concerning the
International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR), which requires that: “extinguishers are provided
with protection against inadvertent discharge”. (Special Provision N°594).
Please make sure that the extinguisher is completely secured as per as the instructions contained in the
MSDS and drawings, and in accordance with below pictures.
Please be informed that each time L’Hotellier will receive unsecured extinguishers, (Extinguishers without
safety caps), additional fees will be charged.
WARNING: For obvious safety reasons the extinguishers removed from
helicopters/aircrafts shall not be sent back fitted with their cartridges/squibs to L’Hotellier
or any other facility.
