3. HARDWARE INSTALLATION
The front console port allows a dumb terminal or PC with terminal emulaon soware to
locally access management funcons and connected devices.
The device ports allow simple and exible connecons to serial devices using adapters and
a standard CAT5 cable. Connect one end of the CAT5 cable to the device port and the other
end to an adapter that aaches to the serial console of the target system.
For example, to connect a PC to the console port of the SLC 8000, you only need the RJ45
to DB9F Adapter and a standard CAT5 cable which is supplied with the unit.
The default communicaon parameters for the device ports and console ports are:
 9600 baud • 1 stop bit • 8 data bits • No ow control • No parity
Note: SLC 8000 device ports are reversed by default, but are soware congurable.

WHAT’S IN THE BOX
The Lantronix SLC 8000 Advanced Console Manager enables IT professionals to remotely and securely administer servers and networking equipment.
Leveraging the console or emergency management port built into most servers and networking equipment, the SLC 8000 provides remote access
anywhere, anyme. All that is required is an available console, AUX, or serial port on the aached equipment. Using in-band management, you can
manage equipment over the network from virtually any place, using familiar tools like Telnet or Secure Shell (SSH). Out-of-band management
provides access from a local terminal or through an internal modem (P/N 56KINTMODEM-01, sold separately). If a modem is used, dial-in access is
possible in the event that the IP network is unavailable. Once connected, the user has access to the server or IT equipment’s command line interface
(CLI) via the console port to perform maintenance or management tasks. The front LCD panel and keypad allow for quick and easy network
conguraon.
All SLC 8000 models are compable with a variety of equipment, including:
• Switches • Routers • Firewalls • Servers • UPS systems • PBX systems • Telecom switches • PDU
1. Install the unit in a 19-inch rack.
Warning: Do not block the air vents on the sides of the unit. If mounted in an enclosed rack, it is recommended that the rack have a venlaon fan.
2. Connect the equipment to the numbered device ports on the back of the unit using the appropriate cables and adapters.
3. If you installed the internal modem, connect a RJ11 cable between the front panel modem port on the SLC 8000 to your phone line.
4. Connect the unit to the network using the upper network port (Ethernet 1).
5. Connect the power cord and apply power.
6. Wait about a minute and a half for the boot process to complete. When the boot process ends,
the SLC model name and clock appear on the LCD. Detected faults or process messages may also display.

5. CONFIGURING NETWORK (IP) SETTINGS
The fastest way to set basic network parameters is by using the front
panel keypad and display.
Note: If you prefer, you can get started by following a Quick Setup script
on the command line interface using Telnet or SSH, or by connecng a
terminal directly to the console (RS-232) port. The web page interface
also provides a Quick Setup page. See Quick Setup in the User Guide.
Note: If no buons are pressed for 30 seconds, the front panel display
mes out without accepng unsaved changes and returns to displaying
the hostname and clock.
For example, to change the IP sengs:
1. Press the right arrow buon to display the Network Sengs opon
and the current IP address.
2. Press the Enter buon to go into eding mode.
7. LOGGING IN TO THE COMMAND INTERFACE
This secon includes instrucons for accessing both the web page and
the command line interfaces. You can use either method to congure
all parameters.
To log in to the SLC 8000 web page:
1. Open a web browser (Internet Explorer 8.0 and later).
2. In the URL eld, type hps:// followed by the IP address of your SLC.
3. At the rst login, enter sysadmin (all lower case) as the user and
PASS (all upper case), the factory default password.
To access the command line interface:
1. Do one of the following:
 With a network connecon, use a Telnet or SSH program to Telnet or
SSH to xx.xx.xx.xx (the IP address in dot quad notaon), and press
Enter. You should be at the login prompt.
Note: By default, Telnet is disabled. To enable it, use the Services web
page, a serial terminal connecon, or an SSH connecon with a serial
terminal connecon, when the command line displays, press Enter.
2. Enter sysadmin as the user name and press Enter.
3. Enter PASS as the password and press Enter. The rst me you log in,
the Quick Setup script opens automacally. Subsequent logins display
the command prompt only. (To obtain the Quick Setup script again,
use the admin quicksetup command.)
Note: Change the default password as soon as possible to prevent access
by unauthorized personnel. Subsequent logins require the username
sysadmin and the appropriate password to log in as system administrator.
4. If the Quick Setup script displays, update basic network parameters, as
desired. Otherwise, just press Enter unl the command prompt dis-
plays. By pressing Enter, you are accepng the current sengs.
Notes: For general command line interface help, type “help command
line”.
For help with a specic command, type “help” followed by the command;
for example, “help set network” or “help admin rmware”.
4. IP ADDRESSING
Both of the SLC 8000 network ports (Ethernet 1 and Ethernet 2) default
to DHCP– assigned IP addresses. If you want to assign a dierent IP
address, it must be within a valid range, unique to your network, and
with the same subnet mask as your workstaon.
To congure the SLC 8000, you need the following informaon:

 Use the right and le arrow buons to navigate
from one opon to another.
 Use the up and down arrow buons to navigate
between parameters within an opon or to increase
or decrease a numerical value.
3. Use the up and down arrow buons to increment or decrement the IP
address indicated by the cursor.
4. Use the right an le arrow buons to move to and change the
remaining digits of the IP address. Press the Enter buon to exit eding
mode when nished.
5. Press the down arrow buon to display the Subnet Mask seng.
6. Edit the Subnet Mask in the same fashion as the IP address and press
the down arrow.
7. Edit the Gateway and DNS sengs.
8. Press the down arrow aer the DNS3 seng to go to the Save sengs?
Yes/No prompt.
9. Select Yes at the prompt and press Enter to save changes. Repeat steps
1-8 for the other opons (console port and date/me).
Note: Another opon, release, is for restoring factory defaults. The default
password for this acon is 999999.
Aer you save the values for your console manager, changes take eect
immediately.
The rst me you log in, the SLC 8000 Quick Setup page is displayed,
subsequent logins will display the SLC 8000 Home Page. (To display Quick
Setup again, click the Quick Setup tab).
4. Do one of the following:
 To bypass the Quick Setup page and go directly to conguring the SLC,
click the Accept default Quick Setup sengs checkbox and click Apply.
 Update basic network parameters, if desired, and click Apply.

Lantronix SLC 8000高级控制台管理器使IT专业人员能够安全地远程管理服务器和联网设备。利用大多数服务器和联网设备内置的控制台或应急管理端
口，SLC 8000可随时随地提供远程访问。唯一需要的就是所连接设备上有可用的控制台、AUX或串行端口。通过带内管理，您可以从几乎任何地方通

1. 将设备安装在一个19英寸机架上。
警告：不要堵住设备两侧的散热孔。如果安装在封闭机架内，建议机架配备一个排风扇。

5. 配置网络（IP）设置
设置基本网络参数的最快捷方法是用前面板上的数字小键盘和显示器。
注意：如果您愿意的话，您可以通过使用Telnet或SSH从命令行界面上的
“快速设置”脚本上手，或者通过直接将一台终端连接到控制台（RS -
232）端口上开始工作。该网页界面还提供了一个“快速设置”页面。请
参见用户指南中“快速设置”。
注意：如果30秒内没有按下任何按钮，那么前面板将显示超时信息，放
弃未保存的更改，并返回到显示主机名和时钟的画面。
例如，要更改IP设置：
1. 按向右箭头按钮显示“网络设置”选项和当前IP地址。
2. 按“确定”按钮进入编辑模式。
7. 登录到命令行界面
本节包含网页访问和命令行两种界面的使用说明。您可以使用任一方法
配置全部的参数。
要登录到SLC 8000网页：
1. 打开网页浏览器（Internet Explorer 8.0 或更高版本)。
2. 在URL字段中输入hps://，后面加上您的SLC的IP地址。
3. 第一次登录时，输入sysadmin（全部小写）作为用户名，
默认的出厂密码为PASS（全部大写）。
要访问命令行界面：
1. 执行下列操作之一：
在使用网络连接的情况下，利用Telnet或SSH程序连接到xx.xx.xx.xx（IP地
址点分表示法），然后按¡°确定”。此时应显示登录提示符。
注意：Telnet默认为禁用。要启用Telnet远程登录，需要使用“服务”网
页、一个串行终端连接或SSH连接。在使用串行终端连接的情况下，
当显示命令行时，请按“确定”。
2. 输入sysadmin作为用户名，然后按“确定”。
3. 输入PASS作为密码，然后按“确定”。当您第一次登录时，会自动打
开“快速设置”脚本。以后登录时将只显示命令提示符。（若要再次
获得“快速设置”脚本，请使用admin quicksetup命令。）
注意：请尽快修改默认密码，以防止未经授权人员访问。以后登录时，需
要输入用户名sysadmin和相应的密码，以系统管理员身份登录。
4. 如果显示“快速设置”脚本，请根据需要更新基本网络参数。否则，
只需按住“确定”，直到显示出命令提示符。按“确定”，表明您接受
当前的设置。
注意：如需一般的命令行界面帮助，请输入“help command line”。
如需某个特定命令的帮助，请输入help，后面跟该命令，例如，“help set
network”或“help admin rmware”。
4. IP定址
SLC 8000的两个网络端口（以太网1和以太网2）默认为由DHCP分配的IP
地址。如果您要指定一个不同的IP地址，那么该地址必须在有效范围
内，并且在您的网络上是唯一的，使用与您的工作站相同的子网掩码。
要配置SLC 8000，您需要以下信息：

 使用向右箭头和向左箭头按钮从一个选项跳到另一个选
项。
 使用向上箭头和向下箭头按钮在某个选项所对应的各个
参数间进行选择，或者用来增加或减少参数值。
3.使用向上箭头和向下箭头按钮来增加或减少由光标指示的IP地址。
4. 使用向右箭头和向左箭头按钮移至IP地址的其他数位，然后进行更改。
设置完成后，按“确定”按钮退出编辑模式。
5. 按向下箭头按钮显示“子网掩码”设置。
6. 按照与IP地址相同的方式编辑“子网掩码”，然后按向下箭头按钮。
7. 编辑“网关”和“域名服务器”设置。
8. 在“域名服务器3”设置之后按向下箭头按钮，跳转到“保存设置 是/
否”提示。
9. 在该提示符下选择“是”，并按“确定”按钮保存更改。对其他选项
（控制台端口和日期/时间）重复步骤1-8 。
注意：还有一种选择就是恢复出厂默认值。该操作的默认密码为999999。
保存控制台管理器设置后，更改立即生效。
第一次登录时显示的是SLC 8000快速设置页面，以后登录时将显示SLC
8000 主页。（若要再次显示“快速设置”，请单击“快速设置”选项
卡。）
4. 执行下列操作之一：
 要绕过“快速设置“页面直接配置SLC，请点击“接受默认快速设
置”复选框，然后点击“应用”。
 如果需要的话，更新基本网络参数，然后点击“应用”。
