Safety instructions for use
To minimize the risk of fir e within the inner bowl, the fol lowing should be observed :
• Items that have been spotted o r soaked with vegetable or cooking oil cons titute a fi re hazard and should not be
placed in a tumble dryer.
Oil-affected items ca n ignite spontaneously, especially when exposed to heat s ources Such as in a tumble dryer.
The items become warm, caus ing an oxidation reaction in the oil. Oxidation creates heat . If the heat cannot
escape, the items can bec ome hot enough to catch fi re. Piling, stacking or storing oil-af fected items can prevent
heat from escaping and so creat e a fi re hazard.
If it is unavoidable that fabri cs that contain vegetable or cooking oil or have be en contaminated by hair care prod-
ucts be placed in a tumble dr yer they should fi rst be washed in hot water with extra de tergent-this will reduce,
but not eliminate, the hazard. Th e ‘cool down’ cycle of tumble dryers should be used to reduce t he temperature
of the items. They should not be rem oved from the tumble dryer or piled or stacked while hot.
• Items that have been previously clean ed in, washed in, soaked in or spotted with petrol /gasoline, dry-cleaning
solvents or other fl ammable or exp losive substances should not be placed in a tumble dr yer.
Highly fl ammable substances c ommonly used in domestic environments include aceton e, denatured alcohol,
petrol/gas oline, kerosene, spot removers (some brands ), turpentine, waxes and wax removers.
• Items containing foam rubber ( also known as latex foam) or similarly tes tured rubber like materials should not be
dried in a tumble dryer on a heat se tting.
Foam rubber materials ca n, when heated, produce fi re by spontaneous combust ion.
• Fabric softeners or similar p roducts should not be used during a drying cycle, to eliminat e the effects of static
electricity unles s this practice is specifi cally recommended by the ma nufacturer of the fabric softener or produc t.
• Undergarments that cont ain metal reinforcements should not be placed in a tumble dr yer.
Damage to the tumble dryer ca n result if metal reinforcements come loose during dr ying.
When available a drying rack c ould be used for such items.
• Plastic articles su ch as shower caps or babies waterproof napkin cove rs should not be placed in a tumble dryer.
• Rubber-backed articles, clothe s fi tted with foam rubber pads, pillows, rubber b oots and rubber-coated tennis
shoes should not be placed in a tumbl e dryer.
