“Yvonne de Villiers, founder of Luna Guitars, is not a musician, but then neither
was Leo Fender. Two other traits shared by de Villiers and Fender are perhaps
more important to the art of creating effective musical instruments than musi-
cianship: an impetus to question the status quo and the courage to respond to the
answers.
2003 found stained glass artist de Villiers asking herself… What does the guitar, as
an object, really mean to those that love them?...Couldn’t guitars do more than ap-
peal to the ears, eyes and hands? Couldn’t they also speak to body, mind and spirit?
de Villiers’ answers sparked the birth of Luna Guitars.
Today, Luna is a growing, full-edged guitar company featuring a diverse lineup of
acoustics, electric acoustics, and solidbody electrics with an equally diverse lineup
of artist endorsers, both male and female.”

As those of you who are familiar with Luna’s story know,
I was inspired to start Luna Guitars with the aim of bringing
balance to the marketplace by providing quality instruments
for females ... guitars that were ergonomically friendly as
well as visually striking. Luna instruments were embraced by
both female and male players because of the innovative orna-
mentation and the comfort factor. Beyond that, the company has
received many letters from owners speaking to the authenticity
and substance of Luna’s designs that engage players on a deep-
er level. As a result of this heartfelt feedback from players,
Luna has entered a new phase.
Our revised mission statement puts it all together:
“At Luna Guitars, our mission is designing inspired quality
instruments that are physically comfortable, aesthetically
engaging and spiritually nourishing.”
With more people than ever making music on this
planet, and because music is our world’s universal language

Crafted at the historic Terada Factory
that has manufactured guitars for Alva-
rez, Gibson, Gretsch and Martin, these
instruments combine uncompromising
structural integrity and superb play-
ability, tone and projection worthy of
any professional artist or discriminating
player.
The “Trinity” features a solid Sitka
spruce top with an extraordinary knot
work sound hole crafted of Mother-of-
Pearl with Ebony borders. An ebony
bridge, classic herringbone binding,
Rosewood sides and solid Rosewood
back put the nishing touches on this
elegant instrument.

The “Phoenix” features a solid Sitka
Spruce top with exquisite ebony inlay
on soundboard and rosette to form the
mythological bird and crescent moon
design. An Ebony bridge, Ebony
binding, Mahogany sides and solid
Mahogany back complete the immacu-
lately crafted body.
On both The Phoenix and Trinity,
Luna’s Mother of Pearl logo shines
brightly from an Ebony headstock with
Gotoh 18:1 tuners while Luna’s mother
of Pearl signature moon phase fret
markers make their way across an ebony
fret board. Luna’s attention to detail is
further evidenced by a bone nut and
saddle.
Complimenting the design effort is the
inclusion of a state-of-the-art. B-Band
Preamp Tuner that maintains the inti-
mate and natural acoustic tonal quality
of these ne instruments. The Preamp
includes a 3 band EQ , phase select, low
cut lter with frequency select, as well as
Hi and Lo Z outputs.

“The pattern I chose for Luna’s Paradise guitar is
based on the art of Medieval Spain. The culturally
rich and diverse period is the only one in which Henna
was grown and used as a cosmetic in Europe. The era
also was historically important in development and
growing popularity of the guitar.”

“The design of the Oasis Henna guitar draws its
inspiration from the strange owers and enchanted
forests of Ottoman art. A wild rose, with additional
blooms of tulips and violets, tumbles across the front
of the instrument. The back of the Oasis model is
adorned with a cypress tree.”
