About the Lens
The Macro A 120mm F4 M l ens has a built-in floating system which moves parts of the lens
system back and forth to correspond to the shooting distance. This automatically corrects for
close- focus aberrations and effectively increases edge sharpness at close-focusing distances.
This system increases the overall performance for close-up and general-purpose photography at
all shooting distances.
Because of its unique built-in extension helicoid barrel, the lens can be focused from infinity
(∞) to life-size reproductions (1:1) without any accessories.
The lens barrel design shields the front lens element from extraneous light sufficiently
without requiring a lens hood; however, if desired, you may use the Mamiya screw-in hood
M67-No. 4.

Attaching the Lens to the Camera Body
1. Rotate the Front Lens Cap counterclockwise to
remove it.
2. Align the lens’ Attachment Dot (1) with the
Alignment Mark on the Camera Mount (2).
3. Insert the lens into the camera body.
4. Rotate the lens clockwise making sure that the
Exposure Meter Coupler (3) links securely with the
Aperture

body.
Detaching the Lens from the Camera Body
1. Press the Lens Release Button (1) on the camera
body in the direction of the arrow, and then rotate
the lens counterclockwise.
Magnification
1 Frame the subject through the viewfinder, and
then turn the Focusing Ring to obtain sharp focus.
2 Read the MAG Scale, aligned with red Index Mark
located in the center of the Depth-of-Field Scale.
 The MAG Number is a reciprocal of the image size.
For example, if the MAG Number is 20, the subject is
being photographed at a size of 1/20. A MAG
Number of 1 indicates life-size.

Exposure Compensation May be Applied Using the Close-up Table
Reading the Close-up Table
 The ‘Distance to object’ in the table is the distance from the front frame of the lens to
the subject.
 With close-up photography, the lens’ extension is large and the amount of light
reaching the film is reduced. Therefore, it is necessary to increase exposure.
 When using an external light meter, use the above table to determine the correct
exposures. If using an AE prism finder, no exposure correction is necessary.

Checking the Depth-of-Field
1 Move the A/M Lever (1) so that the Letter
‘M’ is visible. This closes the diaphragm of
the lens to the working aperture, enabling
the depth-of-field to be seen through the
lens.
2 You can also use the Depth-of-Field
Scale (2). This scale has matching
aperture values to the left and right of a
central index.
o The Distance Scale shows the
effective depth-of-field falling within
any two matching values. For
example, if the distance to the
subject is two meters and the
aperture setting is f/16, the Depth-
of-Field Scale indicates that focus is
sharp within a range of about 1.8 to
2.2 meters.
o The Depth-of-Field Table provides
more precise depth-of-field ranges.

Lens Care
Never try to modify the lens or take it apart.

Always handle the lens carefully, and take care not to drop it or subject it to a strong
impact.
The lens is NOT water resistant. Wipe it off with a soft, dry cloth if it becomes wet. If the
lens is exposed to salt air, wipe it off with a soft, damp cloth.
 Never leave the lens in areas that are exposed to naphthalene, formalin, or other
chemical gasses. Such gasses can damage the lens.
Clean the lens by wiping it with a soft, dry cloth. Never use solvents to clean the lens.
Doing so can cause discoloration of the lens finish.
If the lens surface becomes dirty or smudged with fingerprints, gently wipe it with a
piece of soft, clean gauze.
If you have trouble cleaning the lens surface, or if youdiscover mold forming on it,
contact your nearest Mamiya service provider.
Be sure to carefully read all of the precautions contained in this manual before
using this lens.
