1-4 Points to be careful about in handling.
WHEN TOUCHING LOAD AFTER TURNING OFF HIGH VOLTAGE
1. Make the setting of an output voltage to zero (0). Turn off the HV ON/OFF switch.
2. Check and confirm that the voltage is zero at an output voltmeter of this unit.
3. Turn off the POWER ON/OFF switch.
4. Earthling an output for more than 10 seconds, check and confirm that the voltage is
zero with another high voltage meter. It is especially dangerous that the load is
capacitive or a long cable is used.
5. Make it a rule to touch load with right hand.
How to GROUND
・For the safe operation, be sure to ground the ground terminal of power supply at
one point.
If the Load frame is not grounded

1-5 Additional points to be noted for operation of HV amplifier
(1) Keep the length of output cable as short as possible.
(2) Keep the output cable away from floor, desks, or metal objects.
(3) Have no shielding on the output cable.
Due to the character of HV amplifier, the output cable of the unit is not shielded. If the
output cable has some stray capacity against ground (earth or metal object), output
voltage will be sinusoidal or step waveform and extra current will be drawn. As this
current draw parallel to load, the following appearance might be happened.
①Rated maximum voltage or current cannot be obtained.
②The waveform at constant current operation or current monitor is
distorted or changed

4
Capacitive Load
When operated with a capacitive load of more than 100pF (including floating capacity of
output cable), the output might oscillate. In such a case put a high voltage resister of 100Ω
(0.1μF) to 1kΩ (1000pF) in series to output. Please also note that with capacitive load the
bandwidth is limited according to the formula below.
Frequency Response
In case clear output waveform is required, please select a HV amplifier which has high
enough frequency bandwidth against required frequency.
In general 3 to 5 times more frequency bandwidth for sinusoidal waveform, and about 10
times more for rectangular waveform, is required. In case of insufficient frequency bandwidth
the output swing shall be reduced, and also the phase difference be large, so some solutions,
such as monitoring output waveform, shall be required.
Rise Time (step responsibility)
Responsibility can be indicated with rise time. (fig.2) Usually the rise time of amplifier of
responsibility (= bandwidth) fc (Hz) is given by a formula below.
tr ≒0.35/fc
The rise time tf is equals to tr.

5
Slew Rate
The responsibility of our high speed amplifier is determined with slew rate (SR). The step
responsibility of our amplifier is as shown in fig.3.
SR = △V/μS In case of output amplitude is smaller the response time become shorter.
For example, AMPS-20B20 reach to greater than SR = 1200V/μS at maximum.
FOR SAFER OPERATION
1. It will be safer if place an insulation plate which can withstand the voltage to be used
on the floor, and operate standing on it.
2. Operate the unit and load with left hand, and let right hand free from them.
3. After turning off the voltage (even long time after turning off), be sure to earth the
output more than 10 seconds before you touch the load.

1-6 Troubleshooting
・In case no output voltage:
1. Check input voltage is correct
・230V AC ±10% 50/60Hz single phase of input voltage.
・Control voltage –10V to 10V at the time of controlling over external voltage.
2. Check whether or not the over current protection is effective.
(Refer 4-9-c. Over current protection (page 15) for the details)
3. Check whether or not the over temperature protection is effective.
(Refer 4-9-d. Over temperature protection (page 15) for the details)
・In case there is sounds of discharge around HV output section:
1. Check the plug section(arrow mark below) is not tainted or get dirty. If HV connector
is tainted and used, arcing may occur. Wipe it with liquid such as alcohol, and dry it
well before use.
NOTE : At operating frequencies above a few kHz, the operating noise
of the amplifier may be heard from inside the power supply,
but this is not a malfunction.

4. Turn on the HV switch.
The red indicator will light up to indicate that the amplifier is ready for operation.
If steps 3. and 4. are performed in the reverse order, the unit will be left in stand –by
mode. In this case, turn the HV switch off and then turn it back on.
5. Output voltage(kV) can be controlled as constant voltage mode by inputting control
voltage to Vcon-in .(input impedance of Vcon-in is 10kΩ)
The input frequency is within the range of the frequency characteristics in the table in Chapter 2.
Above the input voltage ±10V and the frequency, the output voltage amplitude is attenuated.
With a capacitive load, the maximum operating frequency may decrease depending on the
charge / discharge current. For the load at the time of capacity, check the data on Page 19 and use
it so that it does not cause overcurrent.

effective and cut off.
In such cases, we recommend reducing
the peak time or voltage, or adding a
resistor in series with the capacitive load
to reduce the peak current.
