1. SafetyPrecautions
1.1. General Guidelines
-For continuedsafety, no modification ofanycircuitmust be
attempted.
-Unplug thepowercord from thepoweroutlet before
disassembling thisprojector.
-Itisadvisabletouse anisolation transformerintheACpowerline
beforetheservice.
-Observetheoriginal leaddress during theservice. Ifashortcircuit
isfound, replace all theparts overheatedor damagedbytheshort
circuit.
-Aftertheservice, all theprotectivedevices suchas insulation
barriers, insulation papers, shields, and isolation R-C
combinationsmust beproperlyinstalled.
-Aftertheservice, check theleakagecurrenttopreventthe
customerfrom getting anelectricshock.
1.2. LeakageCurrentCheck

poweroutlet. Fig. 2
3. Connect M1 toT1according toFig. 2and measurethevoltage.
4. Changetheconnection ofM1 from T1toT2and measurethe
voltageagain.
5. Thevoltmetermust read0.375 V or lowerinbothofsteps3and 4.
Thismeansthat thecurrentmust be0.75 mAor less.
6. Ifthereading isoutoftheabovestandard, theprojector must be
repairedand recheckedbeforereturning tothecustomerbecause
ofapossibilityofanelectricshock.

The projectoremploys a single RGB/YPBPR input. NTSC, NTSC4.43, PAL, SECAM, PAL-M,
PAL60, PAL-N (video/S-video) signals, serial digital (480i, 576i)signals, and PC digital signals
canbe input byinserting separatelysoldinputmodules.
4. Self-Check Function
This projectorhas a self-check function indicating information bya two-digitcode whenan
abnormal condition occurs. (Referto the illustration atright. )Whena malfunction occurs, this

function canbe usedto narrowdownthe modules orpartsto be checkedwhile referring to the
table below.
Codes, Abnormal Contents, and Modules orParts to be mainlychecked
:Turnign on the poweratanambient temperature of about 0 °C mayrequire a warm-up time of
approximatelyfive mimutes to startprojecting a picture, During this warm-up,the code “CE”,
will appearon the selfdiagnosisdisplay. Afterthe warm-up, the self-diagnosis displaywill turn
off and the projectorwill projecta picture. The POWER button on the remote control unitmay
be disabledduring the operation of the self-diagnosis display. Inthis case, turnoff theMAIN
POWER switch, thenturniton again, and thenpress the POWER button on the remote control
unitto turnon the projector.
Evenifthere is no problem,the codes belowmayappear. As mentionedon the previous page,
turning on the poweratanambient temperature of about 0 °C mayrequire a warm-up time of
approximatelyfive minutes to startprojecting a picture.During this warm-up, the code “CE”will
appearon the self-diagnosis display. Inthis case,note thatthere is no problem.
5. Function for Safety
5.1. TemperatureCetection insidetheLamp Unit
This projectorhas the bimetal contacting the lamp unitto protectothe lamp.ifthe temperature of
the lamp unitexceeds 100 °C, the bimetal will operate to turnoff the power. (standbycondition)
The installde position of the bimetal isshowninthe illustration atright.

5.2. Interlock Switch
Toensure safety, this projectoris designedsothatthe powercannot be turnedon without the
top-rearcabinetorductorundertheirimperfectinstallation. Ifremoving the rop-rearcabinet
during the operation of the projector, the powerwillbe turnedoff.
6. Service Mode
whensetting the items below, setthis projectorto the servicemanmode.

Setting to ServicemanMode
(1)Press the MENU button.
-the MENU screenwill bedisplayedas showninFig. 1at right.
(2) SelectOPTION, using the UP( )and DOWN
()arrowbuttons.
(3)Press the ENTER button.
-TheOPTION screenwill bedisplayedas showninFig. 2at right.
(4) SelectPASSWORD, using the UP( )and
DOWN ( )arrowbuttons.
(5)Press the ENTER button.
-ThePASSWORD screenwill bedisplayeas showninFig. 3at right.
(6)Input the password“1565”, using the numeric
buttons (0-9)on the remote contorol unit.
(7)Press the ENTER button.
-Theword“SERVICEMAN MODE“ will bedisplayedand the screen
will returnto the OPTION screen.
Thetifferences betweenthe servicemanmodeand the normal mode
aredescribedbelow.
MENU screen:
The word“SPECIAL”is not displayedatthe
normalmode, but itdisplayedand canbe
selectedatthe servicemanmode.

(8)Tochange from the OPTION screento the
SPECIALmode, press the MENU button to return
to the MENU screen, thenselectSPECIALusing
the UP( )andDOWN ( )arrowbuttons, and
thenpress the ENTER button.
(9)Tocancel the servicemanmode, press the
POWER button on the remote control unitorthe
projectoroperating panel to setthe projectorto
the standbymode.
7. Cautions for Service
-During theoperation ofthecooling fan, do notunplug thepower
cord from theoutlet and avoidacutoff inthepowerlines suchas
theopenofacircuitbreaker.
-Whenturning off theprojector, press thePOWERbutton on the
remote control unitor theprojector operating panel (ThePOWER
indicator becomes red.)and waitfor aboutfiveminutes until the
cooling fanstops.
-Aftermaking surethat thecooling fanstops, turn off theMAIN
POWERswitchon thefrontoftheprojector.
Warning:
-Because thisprojector projects extremelystrong light, neverpeep
thelenstubetopreventthedamageofyour eyes.

9. LampUnitReplacement
Important Points to keepinmind
Whenreplacing the lamp unitwith a newone, payattention to the following points.
Warning:
-Because thetemperatureofthelamp unitiselevatedimmediately
afterits use, adirect touchtoitmaycause burns. Afterthelamp
has cooledenough, replace thelamp unit.
Cautions forLamp UnitReplacement:
-Handletheremovedoldlamp unitcarefully. Ifabusing it, itmay
havearisk ofexplosion.
-Waregloves whenreplacing thelamp unit.
-Whenreplacing thelamp unitbecomes necessaryduring the
operation oftheprojector, followtheprocedurebelowtoturn off
thepowerand waituntil thelamp unitcoolscompletely.
1. Press thePOWERbutton on theremote control unitor the
projector operating panel toturn off thepower.
2. Waitfor aboutfiveminutes until thecooling fanstops.
*Thelamp cooling fanwill continuetooperate for aboutfive
minutes afterturning off thepower. During theoperation ofthe
cooling fan, do notunplug thepowercord from theoutlet and
avoidacutoff inthepowerlines suchas theopenofacircuit
breaker.
3. Aftermaking surethat thecooling fanstops, turn off theMAIN
POWERswitchon thefrontoftheprojector
4. Unplug thepowercord from theoutlet.
9.1. ReplacementProcedure
1. Removetherearpanel, unscrewing thesevenscrewsfixing it.

2. Disconnect relayconnector V7oftheduct fanmotor.
3. Removetheduct, unscrewing thefour screws(black) fixing it.
4. Unscrewthetwoscrewsfixing thelamp unit.
5. Check that thelamp unitand its region cool completely.
Warning:
-Because thetemperatureofthelamp unitiselevatedimmediately
afterits use, adirect touchtoitmaycause burns.

6. Pull outthelamp unitslowlybyits handle.
-Donottouchtheglass surface ofthelamp unit.
7. Install anewlamp unit, following steps1through 6inreverse.
-Donotsandwichthewires and otherswheninstalling the
lamp unit, duct, and rearpanel.
Afterreplacing the lamp unitwith a newone, be sure to resetthe lamp runtime of the projector
at“0h”.Ifnot resetting the lamp runtime, eventhe projectorwith the newlamp will shut down
about tenminutes afterturning onthe power.

9.2. Resetting ProcedureofRuntime

(1)Press the MENU button.
-TheMENU screenwill bedisplayedas showninFig. 6at right.
(2)SelectOPTION and press the ENTER button.
-TheOPTION screenwill bedisplayedas showninFig. 7at right.
(3)SelectPASSWORD and press the ENTER button.
-ThePASSWORD input screenwill bedisplayedas showninFig. 8at
right.

(4)Input the password“1565”using the numeric
buttons (0-9)on the remote control unit, and
press the ENTER button.
-Theprojectorwill beset to the servicemanmode.
-Thescreenwill returnto the OPTION screenas showninFig. 7at
right.
(5)SelectLAMPRUNTIMEand press the ENTER
button.
-TheRESETLAMPRUNTIMEscreenwill bedisplayedas shownin
Fig. 10 at right.
(6)Press the ENTER button.
-Thereset will becompletedand the screenwill returnto the OPTION
screenas showninFig. 11 at right.
NORMALand HIGH of LAMPRUNTIMEwill bereset at “0h”.
(7)Press the POWER button.
-Theprojectorwill beset to the standbymodeand the serviceman
modewill becanceled.
10. DisassemblyInstructions
10.1. DisassemblyProcedure
The flowchartbelowshows the disassemblyprocedure. Forassembly, followthe disassembly
procedure inreverse.

10.2. AirFilterCleaning
1. Unscrewthetwoscrews(black) fixing theairfilter.

2. Pull straaightouttheairfiltertoward thefrontside.
3. Cleantheairfilterbythevacuum cleaner.
10.3. Removal of[AX]Analog RGBModuleand [CM] CPUModule
1. Unscrewthescrews(twoscrewspermodule) fixing the[AX]
analog RGBinputmoduleand [CM] CPUmodule.
2. Pull straightoutthe[AX]analog RGBmoduleand [CM] CPU
moduletoward thefrontside.

10.4. Removal ofTop-frontCabinet
1. Removethetop-frontcabinet, unscrewing thefour screws(silver)
fixing it.
10.5. Removal ofTop-rearCabinet
1. Removethetop-frontcabinet, referring tothesection “Removal
ofTop-frontCabinet.
2. Disconnect therelayconnector for operation switch.
3. Removethetop-rearcabinet, unscrewing thesevenscrews
(silver)fixing it.

10.6. Removal ofDMD AssemblyCover
1. RemovetheDMDTM assemblycover, unscrewing thefour screws
fixing it.
10.7. Removal ofFrontPanel
1. Removethelens.
2. Removethetop-frontcabinet, referring tothesection “Removal
ofTop-frontCabinet”.
3. Removethedustproofcoverfrom thelensmountblock inthe
cabinet, looseing thethumbscrewfixing thecover.

4. Removethefrontpanel, unscrewing theeightscrews(large4
screws, small 4screwsofsilver).
Note:
Itis possible to Check the remote control photoreceptormodule, and fanforprintedcircuit
board.
10.8. Removal of[LF]PowerLens&FanSplitterModule
1. Removethetop-frontcabinet, referring tothesection “Removal
ofTop-frontCabinet”.

2. Disconnect all theconnectorson the[LF]powerlens&fan
splittermodule.
3. Removethe[LF]powerlens&fansplittermodulefrom thehooks
(2 places), unscrewing thethree screwsfixing themodule.
10.9. Removal of[PR] VoltageAvnormalityDetection Module
1. Removethetop-frontcabinet, referring tothesection “Removal
ofTop-frontCabinet”.
2. Disconnect all theconnectorson the[PR] voltageabnormality
detection module.
3. Removethe[PR] voltageabnormalitydetection modulefrom the
hooks (4 places).
10.10. Removal of[BF]Digital BusBufferModule
1. Removethetop-frontcabinet, referring tothesection “Removal
ofTop-frontCabinet”.
2. Removethe[PR] voltageabnormalitydetection module, referring
tothesection “Removal of[PR] VoltageAbnormalityDetection
