Environmental protection
+ENVIRONMENTAL NOTE Environmental
damage due to operating conditions and
personal driving style
The pollutant emission of thevehicle is
directly related to thewayyou operate the
vehicle.
Operate your vehicle in an environmentally
responsible manner to help protect the envi‐
ronment. Please observe thefollowing recom‐
mendations on operating conditions and per‐
sonal driving style.
Operating conditions:
#Make sure that the tyre pressure is cor‐
rect.
#Do not carry any unnecessary weight
(e.g. roof luggage racks once you no
longer need them).
#Adhere to the service intervals.
Aregularly serviced vehicle will contrib‐
ute to environmental protection.
#Always have maintenance work carried
out at a qualified specialist workshop.
Personal driving style:
#Do not depress the accelerator pedal
when starting the engine.
#Do not warm up the engine while the
vehicle is stationary.
#Drive carefully and maintain a suitable
distance from thevehicle in front.
#Avoid frequent, sudden acceleration and
braking.
#Change gear in good time and use each
gear only up to Ôof its maximum
engine speed.
#Switch off the engine in stationary traf‐
fic, e.g. by using the ECO start/stop
function.
#Drive fuel-efficiently. Observe the ECO
display for a fuel-efficient driving style.
Take-back of end-of-life vehicles
EU countries only:
Mercedes-Benz will take back your end-of-life
vehicle for environment-friendly disposal in
accordance with the European Union (EU) End-Of-
Life Vehicles Directive.
A network of vehicle take-back points and dis‐
mantlers has been established foryouto return
your vehicle. You can leave it at any of these
points free of charge. This makes an important
contribution to closing therecycling circle and
conserving resources.

disposal of end-of-life vehicles, and thetake-back
conditions, please visit the national

reconditioned components
Mercedes‑Benz AG offers recycled recondi‐
tioned components and parts with the same
quality as new parts. The same entitlement
from the implied warranty is valid as for new
parts.

Airbags and seat belt tensioners, as well as
control units and sensors fortherestraint
systems, may be installed in thefollowing
areas of your vehicle:

#Do not install accessories such as audio
systems in these areas.
#Do not carry out repairs or welding.
#Have accessory parts retrofitted at a

If you use parts, tyres, wheels or safety-relevant
accessories which have not been approvedby
Mercedes-Benz, the operating safety of thevehi‐
cle may be jeopardised. Safety-relevant systems,
e.g. the brake system, may malfunction. Use only
genuine Mercedes-Benz GenuineParts or parts of
equal quality. Use only tyres, wheels and acces‐
sory parts that are approvedforyour vehicle
model.
Mercedes-Benz tests original parts, conversion
parts and accessory parts that have been
approvedforyour vehicle model forreliability,
safety and suitability. Despite ongoing market
research, Mercedes-Benz is unable to assess
other parts. Mercedes-Benz accepts no responsi‐
bility forthe use of such parts in Mercedes-Benz
vehicles, even if they have been approved offi‐
cially or independently by atesting centre.
Certain parts are only officially approvedfor
installation or modification if they comply with
legal requirements. All genuine Mercedes-Benz
GenuineParts meet theregistration requirements.
The use of non-approved parts may invalidate the
vehicle's general operating permit.
This is the case in thefollowing situations:
Rthevehicle type changes from that stated in
thegeneral operating permit.
Rother road users could be endangered.
Rtheexhaust gas or noise levels are adversely
affected.
Always specify thevehicle identification number
(VIN) and engine number when ordering genuine
Mercedes-Benz GenuineParts (/page 335).
Information about attachments, add-on
equipment, installations and conversions
Notes on body/equipment mounting direc‐
tives
For safetyreasons, have add-on equipment pro‐
duced and fitted in accordance with thevalid
Mercedes-Benz body/equipment mounting direc‐
tives. These body/equipment mounting directives
ensure that thechassis and add-on equipment
form one unit and that the greatest possible level
of operational and driving safety is achieved.
Both vehicle manufacturers and body manufac‐
turers must always ensure that the products they
manufacture come into circulation only in a safe
state and do not pose any risks to people. Other‐
wise, there may be consequences under civil,
criminal or public law. All manufacturers are
responsible forthe products that they have man‐
ufactured. Manufacturers of attachments, add-on
equipment, installations and conversions must
guarantee compliance with Directive
2001/95/EC on general product safety.
Mercedes-Benz recommends thefollowing proce‐
dure for safetyreasons:
RDo not make any other changes to thevehi‐
cle.
RObtain approval from Mercedes-Benz in the
event of deviations from the approved body/
equipment mounting directives.
Acceptance tests performed by public test bodies
or official approvals do not rule out safetyrisks.
Comply with the information about Mercedes-
Benz genuine parts (/page 16).

&WARNING Risk of accident and injury in
theevent of improper conversions or
changes to thevehicle
Conversions or changes to thevehicle can
prevent systems or components from func‐
tioning properly and/or jeopardise thevehi‐
cle's operational safety.
#Always have conversions or changes to
thevehicle carried out at a qualified
workshop.
Notes on theradiator
Even seemingly minor changes to thevehicle,
such as attaching a radiator grille in winter, are
not permitted. Do not covertheradiator. Do not
use any thermal mats, insect protection covers
etc.
Otherwise, thevalues of thevehicle's diagnostic
system will be distorted. In some countries, the
recording of engine diagnostics data is prescri‐
bed by law and must be verifiable and correct at
all times.
