1. BeginbyplacingtheCT224onadeskortable.
2. Connectonesenortothe unit,notewhichtypeofsensor you haveconnected.
3. ApplypowertotheCT224. Thedisplayshouldlightandthemessage“Initializing
Inputs”willbedisplayed. Afewsecondslatertheunitwilldisplay“Zone1Off”.
4. Pressandholdanyoneofthekeysonthefrontpaneluntilthemainmenuis

Entertoturnthealarmoff.To preventthealarmfromresoundingallow
temperaturetofallbelowhysteresislevelforalarmtrippoint.
31. Allowthesensortocool so thatOutput1willuntrip. Output1 willturnoffat80º F,
duetothehysteresissetting of5.
32. WiththeCT224operating,removeawirefromthesensorononeoftheterminals
ontheCT224.
33. Thealarm willsoundbecause theCT224 is configuredto soundthealarm ona
failedsensor.
34. Reconnectthewirethatwasremoved.
35. TheCT224willresumereadingtheinputandturnoffthealarm.
YouhavenowconfiguredZone1totriponanovertemp condition using hysteresisto
untrip. Thismeansthe controllerwilltrip the outputs when the sensor reads a value of
75ºForhigherandwillnotuntripuntilbelow80ºF.

duetothehysteresissetting of5º.
25. Thecontactsorlogicoutputwillnowbeinitsenergizedstateorhighstate,dueto
Output1 setforreverseacting. Settingtheoutputforreverseactingcanbea
goodwaytoprotectequipmentincaseofpowerinterruptstotheCT224.
Youhavenow configuredZone1totriponanundertempconditionusinghysteresis
tountrip. Thismeansthecontrollerwilltriptheoutputswhen the sensorreadsavalue
of65ºForlowerandwillnotuntripuntilabove70ºF. Toenter programmingthe
passwordmustbeentered.Thisshowshowthepasswordprotectioncanprevent
unauthorizedusersfrom changing thesettings.
Example3:OverTempOperationwithAlarmandOutputTrippingSeparately
1. EnterConfigurationmenu. The password1111willbeusedtogainentry. Choose
1.“ChangePassword”andpressEnter. Select “ProgramPassword”andenter0000,
thepressEnter. Thiswilldisablethepasswordprotectionforenteringthe
“ConfigurationMenu”.
2. Setalloutputsto“N”for“ReverseActingOutputs”.
3. Continuetosetthesettings from“TemperatureScale”to“Zone1Choose Input
Type”asappropriate.
4. ThefollowingsettingsbelowwillbeusetosetTrip1foranalarmat85ºFand set
Trip2foranOutputtripat90ºF.

YouhavenowconfiguredZone1Trip1onanovertempconditionusinghysteresisto
untripandZone 1Trip2 onanover tempconditionusing hysteresis tountrip. This
typeofconfigurationiscommonwhendoingovertempprotection. Thealarmgives
warningtooperatorandhighertrip willshutdownequipmentbeforeseriousdamage
results.
Example4: Under TempOperationwith Alarm andOutputTripping Separately
1. Pressandholdanyoneofthekeysonthefrontpaneluntilthemainmenuis
displayed.
2. Continuetoset the settingsfrom“ReverseActingOutputs”to“Zone1Choose

tountripandZone1Trip2onanunder tempcondition using hysteresisto untrip.
Thistypeofconfigurationis common whendoingundertemperatureprotection.
Alarmgives warning tooperator and coolertemperaturewillshutdownequipment
beforeseriousdamageresults.

untrip. Thismeansthe controller willtriptheoutputs when the sensor reads a value of
85ºForhigherandwillnotuntrip unlessEnterispressedorthe temp fallsbelow80ºF.

ResetOnly”tountrip. This meansthecontrollerwilltriptheoutputswhen thesensor
readsavalueof85ºForhigherandwill not untripunlessthe“ManualReset”option
hasbeenselectedinthe mainmenu.
Example7: Over TempOperationwith Offset
1. Configure CT224 according tovalues inExample 1,then continue below.
2. Pressandholdanyoneofthekeysonthefrontpaneluntilthemainmenuis
displayed.
3. Movethecursorto2.“Configuration”,thenpressEnter.

YouhavenowconfiguredZone1withanoffsetof10ºF.Theoffsetwillallowyouto
improveaccuracyofthereadingsandallowyoutominimizetheerrorpresent.
Example8 –How to Rename Zones
1. Pressandholdanyoneofthekeysonthefrontpaneluntilthemainmenuis
displayed.
2. Movethe cursor to4. “Options”, thenpress Enter.
3. Select1.“RenameZones”,and thenEnter.
4. Set“NameforZone1is:”set “MINCO”,usetheuparrowforchangingthe
letters/numbers,andtherightarrowformovingtothenextletter/number.
5. AfterZonenameischanged,press&holdEnteruntilCT224re-initializesandthe
CT224willdisplaythenewZonename.

Selectthisoptiontoreturn to MonitoringModetoreadandevaluate
theinputsandoutputs.
2. ConfigurationMenu
TheConfigurationMenumayrequireapasswordtoenter,bydefaultnopasswordis
required. TheConfigurationMenucontainsthefollowingoptions.
1. ChangePasswords
2. Setup
3. ModifyOffsets
4. CommSettings
1. ChangePasswords -Select the password tochange. A message
askingifyouwouldliketochangeapasswordwillbeshown. Choose
‘Yes’tochangeapasswordor‘No’toexittheChangePasswordsoption.
Bysettinga passwordto0000, thepasswordwill be deactivated. The
validrangeforapasswordis 0000to9999. If apassword isalready
entered,the user willbe required toenter theexistingpassword in
ordertochangeit. If youforgetyourpassword,themasterpassword
canbeused, itisfoundonthelastpageofthismanual. Available
selectionsare:
1. ProgramPassword
2. UnlatchPassword
1. ProgramPassword –Changes thepasswordthatisused
toprotectthe Change Programoption.
2. Unlatch Password–Changesthepassword that isused
toprotectManualResetoftheOutputs.
2.Setup -Thissectionis used to configure all inputs and outputs. (May
bepasswordprotected.) When thissectionis exited,eitherdue to the
60-secondtimeoutorexited by theuser,theCT224 will automatically
resetandstartscanningwiththenewprogramsettings. The CT224 will
alsoresetwhenprogramsettingsarechangedviathecommunications
linkusingMincoSoft’sCT224Software. Thisisthemainsectionofthe
CT224configurationprocessandhasafullsectionbelow covering its
use. Seesection4B,EnteringtheProgramSettings,formore
information.

3. Modify Offsets-Adjust theoffsetforeachinput zone. Theoffsets
areusedto improveaccuracyofthereadings. Thiscouldbeusefulifa
2-wireRTDisusedoraparticularvalueiscrucialinaprocess. Theoffset
canbeusedsothatlesserrorispresent. Theunitsfortheoffsetare
Tenths. So,ifthe readingisoff by-1degree(or1unit in anyother
measurement),thenumberthat should beenteredforthe offset value
is10,becausethiswillraisethevalueby10tenthsor+1degree.
4.Comm Settings –Thisselectionstepsthroughsettingthemonitor
addressandthebaudrate for theserialcommunications. Thesettings
chosen must match the settings selected by the master device that will
becommunicating with the CT224. The first screen requests the user to
entertheModbus address. Thevalidrangeof addressesisfrom1 to
247. If0is selected,theCT224 willnotmonitor the communication
lines. EachCT224isfactorysettoadefaultModbusaddress of1. If
communicationsarenotused,itisacceptabletoleavethedefault
addressat1. If multipleCT224aretobeused,theaddressesshouldbe
changedtopreventcommunicationerrors. Thenextscreenwillrequest
settingthebaudrate. Valid baud rates are:600, 1200,2400, 4800,9600,
and19200.
3. ManualReset -Usethisoptiontoresettheoutputsifatriphasoccurredand
ManualResetOnlywasselectedwhenconfiguringtheoutputs.(Maybepassword
protected.)

1.Rename Zones –This optionis usedto personalize the display. Up to
16characterscanbeenteredtodescribetheinputlocation. Capital
letters(A-Z),numbers(0-9),andspacesareallowed.
2.Exercise Relays –Thisoption canbeused totripthe outputsfor test
purposes. Thiscanbehelpfultoverifythat wiring iscorrectandthat
connectionsaresecure. Whenselectedandrelays areintripped
condition,theunitwillkeeptheoutputstrippeduntilanotherkeyis
pressed.
3.FreezeOutputs –Selectingthisoptionwilldisabletheprogramfrom
changingthestateofanyoutput. Themessage“Outputsare Frozen”is
displayedon the screen when this selection is active and the CT224 is in
MonitorMode. Tounfreezetheoutputs,choosethisoptionagainand
theFreezeOutputsoptionwillbedisabled.

B) Program
Usingthekeypad to configuretheCT224,use theSetupWorksheetprovideinthe
manualtospeed uptheprocess andreduceerrors. Due to the60-second timeoutin
theCT224,itisbesttofillouttheSetupWorksheetbeforeconfiguringtheunit. This
willalsoallowyoutohaverecordofthesettingsthatareprogrammedinto theunit for
futurereference.
Adescriptionforeachoftheconfigurationoptionsisgiveonthefollowingpages.
Reverseacting outputs? -Choosetheoutputsyouwouldliketoconfigureforreverse
action.
N–Relay:NormallyOpen(NO)contactwill be openandtheNormallyClosed(NC)
contactwillbeclosed.
Logic:Outputwillbelow(0V)inuntrippedstate.
Y–Relay:NOcontactwillbeclosedandtheNCcontactwillbeopenintheuntripped
state. TheLogic:Outputwillbehigh(+5V)inuntrippedstate.
TemperatureScale: -ChoosethetemperaturescalethattheCT224shoulduse. RTDs
andthermocoupleswillusethistemperature scale fordisplay. OptionsareF,
FahrenheitandC,Celsius.
Zoneto be displayed during normaloperation:-Choosehowtheinputreadings
shouldbedisplayed.
Theusercanalwaysadjustthedisplayedreadingby pressing keys, after5secondsthe
CT224willresumeit’s processofdisplayingtheHigh,LoworScanningthroughinputs.
High–Highestinputreadingisdisplayed,regardlessofinputtype.
Low–Lowestinputreadingisdisplayed,regardlessofinputtype.
Any–Display willstayonthezonethatthe user hassetitto.
Minutesofalarmsilencewhenakeyis pressed: -Settheamountoftime to wait
untilthealarmwillresound,if the alarm conditionisstillpresent. Validrangeis1to
100minutesor Stays Off. Thissettingonlyresounds thealarm,itwill notre-trip an
output. Itisdesignedtoremindpersonnelthatthereisstillatrip condition in affect.
If an input fails:-ThissettingallowstheusertodeterminewhatactiontheCT224
shouldtakeifabrokensensorisdetected.
Soundalarm–Alarmwillsoundifinputfails. Alarmwillresoundaccordingtothe
“Minutesofalarmsilencewhen akeyispressed”setinthepreviousstep.

Tripoutput(s)associatedwithfailedinput–Alloutputsconfiguredtotriponthe
channelthathasafailedinputwilltrip.
Ignore–Continueoperatingliketheinputisstillfunctioningproperly.
Chooseinput type: -Select the input type for this zone.
4-20mATransmitters –Output proportional to process variable for PSI, BAR, %
RelativeHumidity,mm/sec,in/sec,G,ºC,ºF.
Enter Low End of Transmitter Range:-Thissettingwillonlybedisplayedifa4-20mA
inputisselected inthepreviousstep. AllrangesforRTDsandthermocouplesare
fixed. Thevalidinput range isbetween -999and9999.
EnterHigh End ofTransmitterRange: -This setting is also onlyavailable when a4-
20mAinputisselected. Thevalid inputrangeis between–999 and9999. The high
endofthetransmitterrangemustbehigherthanthelowend.
ZoneX Trip 1:-Setthetripvalueforthiszone. WhenTrip2isdisplayedit will
correspondtothesecondtripvalueforthezone. Valid temperature ranges are shown
inthechartsfoundunder“Chooseinputtype:”. Ifavaluenotwithintherangeforthe
sensorisentered,awarningwillbedisplayedandanew,validsettingshouldbe
entered.
TripOver or Under?–Thissettingdetermineswhentheoutputswilltrip.
Over–Outputsforthezonewilltripwhenthereadingishigherthan thetripvalue.
Under–Outputs for thezonewilltripwhenthereadingislowerthanthe trip value.
SoundAlarm on Trip?–Yeswill causethealarmtosoundandalarmoutputtotrip
whenthereadingpasses thetripvalue. SelectingNowill notsoundthealarmwhen
theoutputsaretripped.
Outputsto trip:
Output1__Output2__
Output3__Output4__ -A Y after the output indicates to trip the output when the
readingpassedthetripvalue. AnNaftertheoutputindicatestheoutput should not
betripped.
UntripOutputs by: -Thissettingwilldeterminehowtheoutputsassociatedwiththis
tripwillbeuntripped.
ManualResetOnly–Thissettingcauses theoutputstolatch. Theoutputs canonlybe
resetbyenteringtheMainMenuandselectingManualReset. (Apasswordmaybe
necessaryto reset therelays.)
PressingEnter–TheoutputswilluntripwhenEnterispressed.

UsingHysteresis–Theoutputswilluntripwhentheinputvalueexitsthehysteresis
(deadband)limit.
Note:TheorderofprecedenceforthemethodsofuntripisManualResetOnly,
PressingEnter,andthenUsingHysteresis. Thismeansthatifatanytimeanoutputis
trippedandconfiguredbyanzonetountripusingManualResetOnly,theonlywayto
untripthatzoneisusingtheManualReset.
Note:Whenanyzonecausesatripforanoutput,allzonesthathavecausedatripon
thatoutputwillberefreshed. Thismeansthatifan output has been tripped and then
clearedbypressingEnterandanotherzonecausesthatoutputtoretrip,theoutput
willactasthoughbothtripshavereoccurredatthesametimetocausetheoutputto
trip. So,ifthesecondtripweretoresetby dropping belowthe programmed
hysteresisvalue,theoutput willstillbetripped,due tothefirstzone,which causedthe
trip. Toresetthe output again,Enterwouldneedtobepressed.
SetHysteresis: -Hysteresisistheamountthatthereadingmustmovepastthetrip
valuebeforetheoutputs willreset. Forexample,thesystem isconfiguredtotripat
100ºF,hasa10ºFhysteresisandwilltripOutput1onan over temperature reading.
Thereadingincreases to100ºF,so Output1trips. The reading willneed to gobelow
90ºFbeforeOutput 1 willreset.
