Important Safeguards
This symbol alerts you to the presence of important operating and maintenance
(servicing) instructions in the literature and labels accompanying the product.
This symbol alerts you to the presence of un-insulated “dangerous voltage” within
the product’s enclosure that may be of sufficient magnitude to constitute a risk of
electric shock to a person.
Caution: This system is designed to operate in 12 volt DC negative ground vehicles
only. All system components must be operated only when properly connected to the
MDC.
Attention: To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not perform any servicing other
than that contained in the User’s Manual unless you are qualified to do so. Refer all
servicing to qualified personnel.
DO NOT block ventilation openings.
DO NOT allow liquids to enter the MV-1 or any other component of the Mobile Data
Computer.
If, for any reason you need to jumpstart the vehicle, make sure that the system power
switch is in the OFF position.
Installation should be made by a qualified technician and must conform to SAE
Requirements.
Ground wires (black) must be connected to the vehicle’s Battery. Never connect
ground wires to the vehicle’s Chassis.
Warning:Airbag Deployment—Do not install equipment or route wiring in the
deployment path of an airbag. Failure to observe this warning will reduce the
effectiveness of the airbag or potentially dislodge the equipment, causing serious
injury.
Warning:Seat Removal Precaution—If a vehicle seat is temporarily removed, verify
with the vehicle manufacturer if the seat needs to be recalibrated for proper airbag
deployment. Failure to heed this warning could result in death or serious injury.
CAUTION: TO REDUCE THE RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK,
DO NOT REMOVE COVER (OR BACK).
NO USER SERVI CEABLE PARTS INSI DE.
REFER SERVICING TO QUALIFIED SERVICE PERSONNEL.

Notice:Drilling Precautions—When drilling holes, check the area into which you are
drilling to be sure you do not damage vehicle components while drilling. All drilled
holes should be deburred and all sharp edges should be smoothed. All wire routings
going through drilled holes should be protected by a grommet or convolute/split loom
tubing.
Introduction
This user manual describes the characteristics and operations for the MobileVu 12.1"
display and accompanying Touch Screen software. The general characteristics of the
MobileVu display are: sunlight readable, night dimmable, optically clear, and
ruggedized. The display’s enclosure provides EMI and environmental protection of
the LCD and electronics.
The MobileVu display interfaces to the MV-1 system through a VGA cable and
keyboard installed in the vehicle’s driver compartment. Touch screen technology is
used to allow greater ease of use.
If you purchased the complete MV-1 system, you can find more information on the
system’s other components in the MV-1 manual (see your binder’s Computer tab).

Blackout Mode Mobile Vu is equipped with a discrete input to force
the LCD backlight off. This function is used to
quickly turn off the backlights in a “lights off”
scenario. The input discrete is defined as follows:
Open = Backlight On, Ground = Backlight Off.
Backlight will be turned off within one second off the
discrete being grounded.
Input is provided on the 4-pin Molex power
connector pin 2.
Speakers remain operational when in Blackout Mode.
No Video Detection If the screen detects the loss of video (i.e., Vertical
Sync is no longer present), Mobile Vu will indicate
that no input is available.
If the VGA input is selected, ‘No VGA Signal’ is
displayed.
If the Video input is selected, ‘No Video Signal’ is
displayed.
After 90 seconds, the display will automatically turn
off to conserve power (Under the Function menu,
‘Power’ must be set to Auto).
Power Up & Down
Sequence
The display or the attached computer has the ability
to be powered up or down independently of the other.
Power Direct in ‘Auto’ allows Mobile Vu to power
up when power is applied at the 12VDC connector,
reducing the need to push the Power button. This
function is used to remotely power on Mobile Vu.
Power Direct in ‘User’ requires the Power button to
be pushed in order to turn unit on.
Remote Power Status The display has an output discrete to indicate the
state of the power. This function can be used to
remotely power on a computer. The output discrete is
defined as follows: Open = No Power, Grounded =
Power.
Output is provided on the 4-pin Molex power
connector pin 1.
Power Direct ‘Auto’ mode and Power ‘On’ mode
should not be used at the same time. This could cause
the unit not to power on.
Luminance Control Luminance control is provided using discrete steps
ranging from the lowest setting to full brightness.
Steps produce a constant ratio in brightness level
changes.

12VDC is applied to unit.
Green power light will remain illuminated when Mobile Vu is on.
Brightness
Located next to Power button.
When Brightness is in User mode, the left brightness button decreases
luminance as indicated by the down arrow, and the right brightness button
increases luminance as indicated by the up arrow.
When Brightness is in Auto mode, the luminance adjusts automatically.
Volume
Located on the bottom right of display.
Volume is preset every time the unit is powered on.
Left button decreases volume as indicated by the down arrow.
Right button increases volume as indicated by the up arrow.
Menu

There are four menus available through OSD: PC, AV, Function, and OSD.
PC menu is only available when in VGA mode.
AV menu is only available when in Video mode.
Function and OSD menus are available in either input mode.
Input
Located in the four button set on the back of the display
Pressing Input makes the next menu available to the user (i.e., when in the
Function menu, press Input to move to the OSD menu).
Menu Up
Located in the four button set on the back of the display.
When in a submenu such as Contrast, Menu Up moves the setting to an
increased value.
Menu Down
Located in the four button set on the back of the display.
When in a submenu such as Contrast, Menu Down moves the setting to a
decreased value.
