Front Seats
Manual Passenger Seat
Power Seats
You can lose control of the vehicle if you try to
adjust a manual driver’s seat while the vehicle
is moving. The sudden movement could startle
and confuse you, or make you pusha pedal
, when you don’t want to. Adjust the driver’s
’ seat only when the vehicle is not moving.

Pull up on the control bar located under the front of the
seat to unlock it. Slide the seat to where you want it
and releasethe bar. Try
to move the seat with your body
to make sure the seat is locked into place.
The power seat controls are locatedon the outboard
side of the driver’s front seat. Thefront passenger’s seat
may also have power seat controls locatedon the
outboard side of the seat.

To adjust the power seats, dothe following:
Horizontal Control: Raise or lower the front of the seat
cushion by pressingthe forward edge
of the control
up or down.
Raise or lower the rear of the seat cushion by pressing
the rear edge of the control up or down.
Move the seat forwardor rearward by pressing the
control toward the front or rear of the vehicle.
Move the seat higher or lower by holding the whole
control up or down.
VerticalControl(Option):Move the seatback into a
reclined position by pressingthe top of the control
backward.
Move the seatback forward by pressing the top of the
controlforward.
ManualLumbar
If your vehicle has this feature, the knob that controls it
is located on the outboard side of the driver's seat.
Turn the knob toward thefront of the vehicle to increase
Illmhar slyyrt Tlrrn the knnh toward the rear nf the
vehicle to decrease lumbar support.
If you have the independent front cushion moved down
as far as it will go, you may feel the lumbar support
higher in your back. Readjust the location of the cushion
until
you are comfortable. You may also want to
adjust the seatback for maximum comfort.

Power Lumbar
If your vehicle has this
feature, the power lumbar
control
is located on
the outboard side of each
front seat. Use the
power seat control first to
get the proper position.
Then continue with
the lumbar adjustment.
To reshapethe lower seatback, press the lumbar
control forward to increase support and rearwardto
decrease support. Press the control up or down
to raise
or lower the support mechanism.
Keep in mind that as your seating position changes, as
it may during
long trips, so should the positionof
your lumbar support. Adjust the seat as needed.
If you have the independentfront cushion moved down
as far as it will go, you may feel the lumbar support
higher in your back. Readjust the location of the cushion
until you are comfortable. You may also want to
adjust the seatback for maximum comfort.

Heated Seats
If your vehicle has this
option, the heated seat
switch is located next
to the console shifter.
Push the
ON part of the switch once for a HI setting or
twice for a LO setting. Push the OFF part of the
switch to turn the heated seat off. The
LO setting warms
the seatback and cushion until the seat approximates
body temperature. The
HI setting heatsthe seatback
and cushlon to a srightiy nigner temperature.
The heated seats can only be used when the ignition is
turned on. When the ignitionis turned
off, the heating
element is also turnedoff.
Reclining Seatbacks
If your vehicle has a power
recliner, the vertical control
described previously in
this section reclines
the front seatbacks.
If your vehicle has the manual recliner, lift the lever on
the outboard side of the seat and move the seatback
to the desired position. Releasethe lever to lock
the seatback. Pull up on the lever without pushing on
the seatback and the seatback will go to an upright
position.

But don’t have a seatback reclined if your vehicle is
moving.
Sitting
in a reclined position when your vehicle
is in motion canbe dangerous. Even if you
buckle
up, your safety beltscan’t do their job
when you’re reclined like
this.
The shoulder belt can’t do its job. In a crash,
you could go into
it, receiving neck or other
injuries.
The lap belt can’t do its jobeither.
In a crash
the belt could go up over yourabdomen. The
belt forces wouldbe there, not at your pelvic
bones. This could cause serious internal
injuries.
For proper protection when the vehicle
is in
motion, have the seatback upright.Then sit
well back in the seat andwear your safety belt
properly.

Head Restraints
Adjust your head restraint so that the top of the restraint
is closest to the top
of your head. This position
reducesthe chance
of a neck injury in a crash.

Safety Belts
Safety Belts: They Are for Everyone
This part of the manualtells you how to use safety
belts properly. It also tells you some things you should
not do with safety belts.
Don’t let anyone ride where he or she can’t
wear a safety belt properly. If you are
in a
crash and you’re not wearing a safety belt,
your injuries can be much worse. You can hit
things inside the vehicle or be ejected from
it.
You can be seriously injured or killed. In the
same crash, you might notbe, if you are
buckled up. Always fasten your safety belt,
and check that your passengers’ belts are
fastened properly too.
__ is ext nely dangerous to ride in a cargo
area, inside or outside of a vehicle. In a
collision, people riding in theseareas are more
likely to be seriously injured or killed.
Do not
allow people to ride
in any area of your vehicle
that
is not equipped with seats and safety
belts. Be sure everyone in your vehicle
is in a
seat and using a safety belt properly.

In most states and in all Canadian provinces,the law
says to wear safety belts. Here’s why:
They work.
You never know if you’ll be ina crash. If you do have a
crash, you don’t know
if it will be a bad one.
A few crashes are mild, and some crashes can be so
serious that even buckled up, a person wouldn’t survive.
But most crashesare in between. In many of them,
people who buckle up can survive and sometimes walk
away. Without beltsthey could have been badly hurt
or killed.
After more than
30 years of safety belts in vehicles, the
facts are clear. In most crashes buckling up does
matter
... a lot!
Why Safety Belts Work
When you ride in or on anything,you go as fast as
it goes.
Take the simplest vehicle. Suppose it’s just a seat on
wheels.

Q: Won’t I be trapped in the vehicle after an
accident
if I’m wearing a safety belt?
A: You could be - whether you’re wearing a safety
belt or not. But you can unbucklea safety belt,
even
if you’re upside down. And your chance
of being conscious during and after an accident,
so
you can unbuckleand get out, is much greater if
you are belted.

With safety belts, you slow down as the vehicle does.
You get more time to stop. You stop over more distance,
and your strongest bones take the forces. That’s why
safety belts make such good sense.

Q: If my vehicle has air bags, why should I have to
wear safety belts?
A: Air bags are in many vehicles today and will be in
most of them in the future. But they are
supplemental systems only;
so they work with
safety belts - not insteadof them. Every air bag
system ever offered for sale has required the use of
safety belts. Even if you’re in a vehicle that has
air bags, you still have to buckle up to get the most
protection. That’s truenot only in frontal collisions,
but especially in side and other collisions.
Q: If I’m a good driver, and I never drive far from
home, why should I wear safety belts?
A: You may be an excellent driver, but if you’re in an
accident
- even one that isn’t your fault - you and
your passengers can be hurt. Being a good
driver doesn’t protect you from things beyondyour
control, such as bad drivers.

How to Wear Safety Belts Properly
This part is only for people of adult size.
Be aware that there are special things to know about
safety belts and children. And there are different
rules for smaller children and babies.

riding in your vehicle, see
Older Children on page 1-28
or Infants and Young Children on page 1-30. Follow
those rules for everyone’s protection.
