SecondaryFocuserInstallation
Overview: The Fast Focusfocuserwasdesignedtoconservethe limitedbackfocusofthe EdgeHD
telescopes.Byfocusing thesecondarymirrorsmall amounts, we are abletomovethe focal planeofthe
scope.Traditionally thishasbeendonewiththeprimarymirror,but duetomirrorflopthis issue is not
ideal.Manyusershavefound the useofaCrayfordfocuserbeneficial toreducemirrorflop. This does
workquite well,but withthe additionofAOunits, offaxis guiders, filterwheels, and focal reducers,the
limitedamountofbackfocusis easily consumed.
Installation:Installing theFast Focusontothetelescope is quiteeasy.Thebasic ideais toremovethe
mirrorand attachittoanadapterthatwill thenattachtothe Fast Focus.Finally,the entireassembly is
threadedonmymeansofanotheradapter– specifictothe C11/C14correctorthread.
Step-by-step:
1. Unscrew correctorpinch ring

2. Removesecondary mirrorassemblyfrom thetelescope
3. Unscrew (3)panheadcollimationscrews
4. Store correctorpinch ring,collimationscrews,and mirrormount –no longer needed.
5. Attach mirrortotheMirrorAdapter withsuppliedflat headscrews.

6. SlidetheMirrorAdapter over thedovetailofthefocuser and attach with3 screws alongthecircumferenceoftheadapter.
Thesescrews shouldbeverytight sothat themirroris secure.
7. PlacetheCorrectorThreadAdapter over themirrorand against theflangeofthefocuser bodyand threadin(3)pull
screws (plainend)
8. Threadinpushscrews (roundedend) untiltheyare snugagainst thefaceoftheCorrectorThreadAdapter

9. Finally,threadtheentire assemblyback ontothecorrector. Becarefulofthemirrorwhenplacingback intotheOTA. Hold
theexposedaluminumon thecorrectorthreadsothat thefocuser canbetightenedproperly.
First Use: Caremustbe takenwiththe initial setup ofthe focuser.The FastFocuswas designedsothat
themid-range ofthefocuser(center)is thefactory locationofthemirror.Oncethe Fast Focusis
centered,thenthe primaryfocusknobmustbe adjustedtoachievefocus.Uponreaching focus,the
mirrorfloplocks must be engaged– thesewill neverbe loosenedas the Fast Focuswill take careofthe
focusing fromthis pointon.
