1. TALKRANGE
The unitis designedto maximize performance and improve transmission range inthe field.
However, the talk range depends on yoursurrounding environment. Itis necessaryforthe unit
to have a clean"line-of-sight"to showthe ideal range performance. The talk range will be
affectedbyconcrete structures, heavyfoliage and transmission from inside a building or
vehicle.

The unitrequires 3 AA (LR6)size alkaline batteries (not included). / The batterylife is about 30
hours. (Basedon a usage dutyof 5%receive, 5%talk, 90%standby.)
-Make surethat theunitispoweredOFF beforereplacing the
batteries.
1Pull downthe hook and remove the
cover.

2Install (orreplace)the batteries using
the
correctpolarity(+, -).
3Close the cover.
Batteryprecautions:
The batteries shouldbe usedcorrectly, otherwise the unitmaybe damagedbybatteryleakage.

-Donotcharge, short-circuit, disassembleor heat batteries, and do
notdispose ofbatteries infire.
-Removeall thebatteries whenreplacing.
Batterystrength:
You cancheck the batterystrength on the display(see below)while the unitis inuse. Ifthe unit
beeps intermittentlyand ” ”flashes on the display, replace all the batteries with newones.

flashing “ “will disappearfrom thedisplay. Only can

TestMode Setting procedure

1. Removethe(6) screwsofrearcabinet.
2. UnsoldertheANTleadwire, and solderthecableofFrequency
counterand LinearDetector.
3. SupplyDC4.5V using aDC powersupply.
4. Connect theAFGenerator outputtoTP-MICisolation capacitor's
free lead.
5. Solderthechipjumper(partNo. ERJ3GEY0R00) toJ1 point(refer
topage21).
6. POWERON.
7. Press TALKswitch.
8. Press Switch12 times.
9. Press TALKswitchthree times [Theunitbecomes test mode
(CH1, code1)].
10. Theunitgoes intothecontinuousTALKmode.
Note:Testmode is the special mode thatis setto confirmthe fundamental operation.

17. EXPLANATIONOF 2-WAY RADIO
Different from a telephone, 2-Wayradiois a basic radiowhichtransmitterand receiveroperates
alternately. Therefore the simultaneous both-directedcommunication (Duplex)like a cordless
telephone is not provided. One-wayhalfduplex type is employed. Transmitting canbe done
while pushing the TALK switch, and receiving is stoppedforthattime. The modulation type is
the normal FM(F3E)type whichmodulates the narrowband range. Using this tone signal of
300Hzorless, the circuitwhichoperates the tone squelchand prevent the jammed
communication is provided. This is calledCTCSS. CTCSS:Continuous Tone Controlled
SquelchSystem.

Simultaneous receiving canbe done with not onlyspecifiedone transceiverbut manyunits if
onlythe receiving channel and CTCSS code meeton RXside. Therefore, one person of a group
canspeak to all.
The TX/RXfrequencies and channels are same. CTCSS code is providedwith 38 codes from
67Hzto 250.3Hz(referto 14.1. FREQUENCY TABLE).
Vibratorcall
As forthe vibratoroperation, the mode of RXside shouldbe presetto make the operation
available. The vibratorfunction is available evenamong different models. (The vibratorcanbe
operatedevenbythe calling sound orvoice of the unitwhichis not equippedwith the vibrator
function.)The calling from othermodels canactivate the vibratorof KX-TR 320EXS/F.
