5.0 - INSPECTION 5.1 - MAINTENANCE
5.2 - WARRANTY
It is the responsibility of the owner/manager to ensure regular inspections and maintenance of all playground
equipment and safety surfacing. The minimum frequency is as listed. The frequency may need to be increased if
the equipment is subject to heavy use, vandalism or harsh conditions.
DAILY INSPECTION:
• Check all Blox are set up on a stable, level surface to prevent tipping or falling when in use.
• Check all clips are in good condition.
• Check all Clips are attached correctly and securely so they are unable to move or slip out during use.
• Ensure all equipment is within safety surface area.
• Ensure all minimum fall-zones are correct. A safe rule of thumb for fall-zones is to have a minimum of 1.5m
of free space around all movable play equipment. (This should be on a certified impact attenuation surface if
the equipment is over 600mm free height of fall.)
• Check items for any wear and tear which may need repairing.
Important to check all clips on activities, all rope work for any wear or loose fiber etc. Check for any loose or
missing bolts in Blox or activities. Check rock holds are secure.
WEEKLY/MONTHLY INSPECTION:
• Conduct a daily inspection as above.
• Wipe down any soiled surfaces with a soap and water.
• Check safety surface.
If surface is loose fill (woodchip, bark etc.) check the depth is 300mm and is free from rubbish or foreign
objects (rocks, stones, glass etc.).
Check loose fill area edging for splintering, cracking or loose nails or screws.
For synthetic surfaces check for wear and tear and insure no loose or damaged areas which cause a trip
hazard. Check for foreign objects.
ANNUAL INSPECTION (OF THE ENTIRE PLAY AREA INCLUDING MOVABLE ITEMS):
An annual playground inspection should be conducted by an accredited RPII Level 3 Playground Inspector.
Their report should include:
Annual main inspection, Structural stability, General safety hazards, Risk and recommendations, Inspection of play
equipment, Inspection of play safety surface, Wear and tear, Compliance audit to NZS:5828;2015, and Entrapment
