1/ SAFETY NOTES AND IMPORTANT INFORMATION
• Before using, read the operating manual thoroughly.
• Use the equipment as indicated in the operating manual.
• The target should be positioned such that the sun’s rays do not directly reach its front surface
(UIPM rule B.5.15.i).
• Only PENTASHOT external lights can be used with this target.
• The laser target is opto-electric equipment and dismantling it is forbidden!
• When the target is used in a room with artificial light, the target may not function properly if the
light source has a frequency of 40kHz.
• Shooting with a laser emitter with lesser quality optics from less than 5 metres in low light can
cause incorrect shot evaluation results.

PURPOSE
The Hit&Miss target is for instruction, training and competition for the laser run in modern
pentathlon. The target evaluates the laser beam shot to the hit zones. A shot to the hit zone is
signalled when a green LED lights up. A shot to the miss zone is signalled when a red LED lights up.
Shooting time is 50 seconds from the first shot to the target’s front surface. After 40 seconds, the
first LED on the left flashes slowly for 5 seconds, and after 45 seconds it starts to flash quickly. After
50 seconds, all LEDs flash for 5 seconds. All LEDs also flash after the fifth successful shot to the hit
zone. The target runs on two 1.5V AA batteries.
The target can be shot with any approved emitter with a valid UIPM code.
2/ DESCRIPTION, USING THE PROGRAM
The Hit&Miss Connect target is for instruction, training and competition for the laser run in modern
pentathlon. The target evaluates the laser beam shot to the HIT and MISS zones. A shot to the hit
zone is signalled when a green LED lights up. A shot to the miss zone is signalled when a red LED
lights up. The Hit&Miss Connect target is mainly intended for use with the PENTASHOT application,
which is for displaying results and setting the target. The application contains three main setting
modes, which are described later in the manual. The target is powered by two 1.5V AA batteries or
a USB cable from a power network.
PREPARING THE TARGET FOR USE
Insert two 1.5V AA batteries into the battery compartment — CAUTION: Make sure to get the
polarity right (according to the instructions on the sticker in the battery compartment). Place the
target on a level surface or use the holes to hang it on a wall or other prepared surface. Turn the
target on with the START button. After it is turned on, first the green LEDs go on and then the red
ones (for just a few seconds). Then the target automatically checks its battery status by lighting up
the green LEDs:
• 5 green LEDs – fully battery
• 4 green LEDs – battery at 75%
• 3 green LEDs – battery at 50%
• 2 green LEDs – battery at 25%
• 1 green LED – battery dead; replace it

You can start shooting at the target. The target automatically shuts off 20 minutes after the last
shot. The target can also be turned off by pressing the START button for about 5 seconds. An
audible signal shows it has been turned off.
BATTERY COMPARTMENT
CONNECTING EXTERNAL LIGHTS
The target can be connected only to NAVISTREET external lights through a UTP cable and connector.
When connected, the target is powered from the lights, and the battery power is automatically shut off.

UPDATE FUNCTION
The target can be updated only by the manufacturer or an authorized person. A computer with the
update or service software can be plugged to the connector.
PLACING THE TARGET
The target must never be placed where sunlight directly reaches the target surface, because this
will disturb its operation. This also applies to use during competition (UIPM rules, B.5.15.i).

3/ HOW THE TARGET APPLICATION WORKS
After the target is turned on, the Bluetooth function automatically activates. After switching on,
the application shows the first screen, the target number. For checking, the target number can be
found on the back. It is the same as the serial number.
After connection, a window with the main menu appears.

5/ MODES
TRAINING - Allows shooting without limiting the time or number of shots. The LEDs show HIT or
MISS. Green means HIT, and red means MISS. In this mode, the results are not stored, and they
can’t be adjusted in any way.
COMPETITION – Shooting time is limited to 50 seconds. The series ends with five HITs before time
is up. The LEDs show HIT or MISS. For a HIT, one LED always lights after each hit. For MISS, all the
rest of the LEDs flash. In this mode, the number of rounds can be set from 1 to 4, and the results
are stored under RESULTS in the main menu.

Complete solution
INDIVIDUAL – Shooting time can be set between 10 and 60 seconds. You can also set the number
of possible shots (MISS and HIT) from 5 to infinity. You can also set the number of rounds from 1 to
4 and make the HIT ZONE smaller when the HIT ZONE is from circle 8. The results are stored under
RESULTS in the main menu.
6/ POWER SUPPLY
The target is powered by two 1.5V AA batteries or a cable connected to the electrical grid.

STORAGE
It is very important that the target be stored under the right conditions, so that it will stay reliable
and in good condition. Always do the following:
• Before storing the target for an extended time, always remove the batteries. This prevents
damage to the inside of the target if the batteries leak.
• Store the target in the original package (case) in a dry, dark location out of the reach of children.
• Do not place any heavy objects on the case, or objects that may leak fluids.
• Protect the target from weather, including frost and humidity. The optimal storage temperature
is +5°C to 30°C. The air humidity at the storage location must not exceed 60%. Do not store the
target in a damp environment where there is a high risk of corrosion.
