Compass Reading Tips
Hold Survival Watch level. The needle must be balanced
properly for an accurate directional reading
• Read the correct direction; “N” stands for “North”
• Move to a dierent area if the compass reading is unstable
• Use common sense: e.g., know that the sun rises in
the East and sets in the West

Flint Fire Starter
Grasp watch band rmly on each end. FIRST, scrape black coating away from Flint Stick
of Flint Fire Starter. Hold bare Flint Stick against tinder pile. Scrape the jagged metal
edge of the band against the Flint Stick repeatedly until spark is created. Stronger
scraping results in more sparks. Use tinder containing dry wood or tissue; dry material
will start a re more eciently. When using the Flint Fire Starter, nd a safe outdoors
area out of direct wind. Take proper precautions to prevent spread of any re.
including carpet, rugs, clothing, paper, or household chemicals
