Safety and handling precautions
Camera information
• Do not take apart or attempt to service the
camera yourself.
• Do not expose the camera to moisture, or
extremes in temperature.
• Let the camera warm up when moving
from a cold to a warm temperature.
• Do not touch the lenses of the camera.
• Do not expose the lens to direct sunlight
for extended periods of time.
Battery information
• Turn off the camera before installing or
removing batteries.
• Use AA alkaline batteries only.
• Do not use batteries that are leaking,
corroded, or damaged.
• Always replace batteries with two new
AA alkaline batteries.
• Caution-if using rechargeable batteries the
battery life display may be incorrect and
cause the camera to malfunction.
• Remove the batteries from the camera if
you are going to store the camera for
extended periods.

Unpacking the iQuest Roam Camera
Upon receiving your iQuest Roam dual mode camera, open the carton and remove
the contents. If anything is missing or damaged, contact your reseller immediately.
The shipping carton should contain the following items:
• iQuest Roam camera with tilt/swivel base
• Wrist strap
• USB cable
• Two AA alkaline batteries
• Coin battery
• Quick start guide
• Two software CD’s containing:
CD 1: SiPix iQuest Roam TWAIN driver
Odyssey Multimedia Gallery
Inetcam iVISTA
Adobe Acrobat Reader
iQuest Roam PDF Owner’s manual
CD 2: MGI PhotoSuite III SE
Do not throw the carton away. You may need it later if you have to ship the iQuest
Roam dual mode camera for any reason.
System Requirements
For optimal use with the iQuest Roam, your computer should have the following
minimum system requirements:
• An IBM compatible PC
• Microsoft Windows 98/98SE/2000/Millennium Edition
• 32MB RAM or more
• USB port
• CD-ROM drive for software installation
• 16 bit color display or higher
• At least 38MB available hard disk space
• An Internet Service Provider (ISP) for video conferencing and email
• 33.6Kbps or faster modem for video conferencing and email
• Sound Blaster or 100% compatible sound card (optional)
• Speakers and a microphone (optional)

1. Open the CompactFlash cover.
2. Push the center of the battery
slot as shown.
3. Pull out the battery slot.
Inserting and Removing the Batteries
This camera uses a two-way power supply, alkaline batteries and a USB cable that
connects to your computer. Refer to the following information for inserting the
batteries:
Alkaline Batteries: Lithium Coin Battery:
Note: 1. Be sure to always install the AA alkaline batteries first and then the
lithium coin battery when installing both at the same time.
2. Insert the lithium coin battery as indicated on the inside of the
CompactFlash cover.
3.The iQuest Roam camera requires alkaline batteries to operate. The
lithium coin battery is used as a backup power supply for saving images
on the internal memory if the alkaline batteries are removed or lose power.
Refer to the following information for removing the coin battery:

Refer to the following table:
Battery Icon Meaning
The outer frame of the Battery icon indicates the
status of the lithium coin battery. The outer frame
will blink if there is no lithium coin battery inserted
or the coin battery has low power.
The outer frame will not blink if there is a new coin
battery installed.
Full battery power.
Low battery power.
Note: Low battery power will disable the flash function.
No indication The batteries are almost empty. The LCD status
display blinks when battery power is almost empty.
Replace the batteries with fresh ones.
Understanding the Lithium Coin Battery
The lithium coin battery is included to save pictures stored in the camera’s internal
memory when the camera’s power supply is removed or fails. The iQuest Roam
uses a two way power supply, two AA alkaline batteries or the included USB cable.
The camera does not need the coin battery to operate but it is suggested you
always have one inserted. The coin battery does not affect the images on the
CompactFlash card. This means the CompactFlash card will not erase pictures if
the camera loses power. If you are storing the camera for a long period of time we
suggest transferring images to a CompactFlash card (refer to page 13) or to a PC
(refer to page 23) and removing the AA batteries. The coin battery has a long battery
life and it is not used very often. If you should need to replace the coin battery, the
specifications are: lithium-ion 3032. These batteries are common for electronics and
are available at watch counters and in electronic sections of most stores.

Inserting and Removing the CompactFlash Card
The iQuest Roam dual mode camera has two methods of storing pictures: the
built-in internal memory and the CompactFlash card.* The built-in memory contains
8MB of memory and a CompactFlash card can contain 8MB - 32MB of memory.
Refer to the following information for inserting the CompactFlash card:
1. Open the CompactFlash Cover.
•Installing: Insert the CompactFlash card
pushing firmly until the card is flush
with housing. Ensure the label is
correctly oriented.**
•Removing: Slide the Card Eject Button
in the direction indicated by the arrow
to remove the CompactFlash card.
2. Close the CompactFlash Cover.
*Note: A CompactFlash card is not included. If you choose to purchase a card to
expand the memory of your iQuest Roam we suggest using SanDisk or Lexar
Media CompactFlash cards. Not all brands of CompactFlash cards are compatible

** Note: If you feel resistance when inserting the CompactFlash card, check the
orientation of the card. The card should insert smoothly and easily when the
orientation is correct. The brand name label should face the front of the camera.
LCD Status Display
The following illustration shows the LCD status display:

The delete image function is enabled. Refer to page 13
for information on deleting images.
Indicates the battery charge level.
Indicates the number of images taken.
Note: When the CompactFlash card is installed, the amount
shown indicates the number of pictures taken on the card’s
memory. When no card is installed, the amount shown
indicates the number of pictures taken on the camera’s
built-in memory.
The flash function. The following options are available by
repeatedly pressing the up and down buttons once in
flash mode:
Automatic Flash: The flash occurs automatically
when ambient lighting is insufficient for image capture.
No Flash: The flash function is disabled.
Note: The Standby LED indicator blinks until the flash is
charged.
Indicates when the self-timer is activated.
Display indicates the following parameters:
640 x 480 resolution, low compression.
640 x 480 resolution, high compression.
Indicates that the CompactFlash card is inserted.
Indicates that the CompactFlash card in not inserted.

Taking Pictures
Follow these instructions to take a picture with your iQuest Roam camera:
1. Press the Power Button to turn on the camera. When the Standby LED stops
flashing, the camera is ready to take a picture.
2. Center the subject in the Optical Viewfinder.
3. Press the Shutter Button to take the picture. You should hear a beep as the
picture is taken. The LCD Display indicates the number of pictures you have taken.
Note: When the memory is full, you will hear long beeps as you press the
Shutter Button to take a picture.
Using the Macro Function
Enable the Macro Function for close-up photography between 12 and 20 inches
from the subject.
1. Change the lens ring from Normal to Macro .
2. Ensure that the Standby LED has stopped flashing and align the picture through
the Viewfinder.
3. Press the Shutter Button to take the picture.

Flash mode Meaning
The flash goes off automatically when ambient
lighting is insufficient for image capture.
The flash function is disabled.

Menu Mode
To enter the Menu Mode, press the Mode Button. The Menu Mode contains options
that allow you to change the camera settings.
Note: The selected icon will blink while you are setting the function, except
for the Trash Can icon.
Setting the Flash
To set the Flash function, press the Mode Button and the Flash icon should appear
and blink.
1. Use the Up and Down Buttons to set the desired Flash mode.
2. Press the Mode Button to finalize the setting.
Note: The Standby LED blinks until the flash is charged.

modes available and the functions will be

•Set the Flash
•Set the Self-timer
•Set the Resolution

2. Use the Up or Down Buttons to change
setting in the desired mode.
3. Press the Mode Button again to finalize the
setting.

Setting the Self-timer
The Self-timer enables you to include yourself in the picture. Follow these
instructions to use the self-timer:
1. Press the Mode Button and scroll through the modes until you reach the
Self-timer Mode.
2. Use the Up and Down Buttons to alternate between the On and Off setting.
3. Choose On and press the Mode Button again to activate the Self-timer.
4. Align your shot through the Viewfinder.
5. Press the Shutter Button. You now have ten seconds to move to your location
for the picture.
6. The Self-timer LED blinks red:
7. After seven seconds, the Self-timer LED emits a rapid blinking red light for three
seconds to alert you to prepare for the shot. After three seconds, the picture
is taken.

Deleting and Managing Images
To delete pictures, follow these instructions:
1. Press the Mode Button until the trash can icon appears.
2. Use the Up or Down Button to choose the desired Delete mode.
3. Press the Shutter Button for YES or the Mode Button for NO.
Type Meaning
Allows you to delete the last image taken.
Allows you to delete all the images in the memory.
ALL
Allows you transfer the images from the internal
memory to the CompactFlash card.
S
Allows you to format the CompactFlash card.

Note: We suggest deleting images from the camera’s internal memory before
storing the camera for a long period of time.

Included with your iQuest Roam dual mode camera are three software applications
and the iQuest TWAIN driver. You need to install the iQuest TWAIN driver to make
the camera work with the software provided, as well as any other TWAIN-compliant
application. The rest of the software is not necessary to make the camera work,
but is there to enhance the functions of the camera. You will need to restart your
computer after the driver is installed. Follow these instructions to install the iQuest
Roam driver and application software on your system.
Installing the SiPix iQuest TWAIN Driver
1. Insert the iQuest Roam software CD into your CD-ROM drive. The following
screen appears:
2. Choose Install iQuest Roam TWAIN Driver from screen above.
3. Choose Next.
Installing the Driver and Software
Note: If the screen doesn’t appear, click Start, and then click Run. In the Open box,
type “D:\Setup.exe” where D is the letter of your CD-ROM drive. Then click OK to
open the screen.

4. Read the license agreement and choose Yes to continue.
5. Choose Next to register your product online.
6. Choose Finish to restart your computer.
You should reboot your computer before using the camera. Now that you have
installed the driver, skip ahead to “Making Connections” to ensure your camera and
computer are working together properly.

Installing Odyssey Multimedia Gallery
1. Go back to the SiPix install screen and choose Install Odyssey Multimedia
Gallery.
Note: If the screen doesn’t appear, click Start, and then click Run. In the Open box,
type “D:\Setup.exe” where D is the letter of your CD-ROM drive. Then click OK to
open the screen.
2. Choose which language you would like to use for the installer and click Install.
3. Choose Next.

4. Read the License Agreement and choose Yes to continue.
5. Enter your information and Choose Next.
6. Double check that the destination is correct and choose Next.

7. Choose Next.
8. Your software is now installing. Choose Finish to exit the program.
Installing Inetcam iVISTA
Inetcam is offering streaming live video service to SiPix iQuest Roam users for 60
days free of charge. To activate your free iVISTA software, point your browser to
the following address: www.inetcam.com/promo/sipix. When prompted for a
promotional code, enter the following: SP3V6. Your iVISTA software Registration
Code will be e-mailed to you. Use this code for the registration number in step 6.
1. Connect camera to PC with USB cable. For more information refer to the
“Making Connections” section.
2. Go to the SiPix install screen and choose Install Inetcam iVISTA.

Note: If the screen doesn’t appear, click Start, and then click Run. In the Open box,
type “D:\Setup.exe” where D is the letter of your CD-ROM drive. Then click OK to
open the screen.

3. Read the license agreement and click “Yes” to continue.
4. Choose desired setting and click, “Next.”
5. Choose “iQuest Roam VFW” as your driver and click “Next.”

6. Review to ensure video is working and click “Yes.”
7. Enter your registration code and click “Register.”
8. Review registration information and click “OK.”
Installing MGI PhotoSuite III SE
1. Insert the MGI PhotoSuite III SE CD into your CD-ROM drive.
2. Choose install MGI PhotoSuite III SE.
Note: If the screen doesn’t appear, click Start, and then click Run. In the Open box,
type “D:\Setup.exe” where D is the letter of your CD-ROM drive. Then click OK to
open the screen.
