ˆ
The FCC Wants You to Know
This equipment has been tested and
found to comply with the limits for a
Class B digital device, pursuant to
Part 15 of the
FCC Rules
. These lim-
its are designed to provide reason-
able protection against harmful
interference in a residential installa-
tion. This equipment generates, uses
and can radiate radio frequency ener-
gy and, if not installed and used in ac-
cordance with the instructions, may
cause harmful interference to radio
communications.
However, there is no guarantee that
interference will not occur in a particu-
lar installation. If this equipment does
cause harmful interference to radio or
television reception, which can be de-
termined by turning the equipment off
and on, the user is encouraged to try
to correct the interference by one or
more of the following measures:
• Reorient or relocate the receiving
antenna.
• Increase the separation between
the equipment and receiver.
• Connect the equipment into an
outlet on a circuit different from
that to which the receiver is con-
nected.
• Consult your local RadioShack
store or an experienced radio/TV
technician for help.
• If you cannot eliminate the inter-
ference, the FCC requires that
you stop using your CD player.
Changes or modifications not ex-
pressly approved by RadioShack may
cause interference and void the us-
er’s authority to operate the equip-
ment.
Warning: This system employs a la-
ser light beam. Only a qualified ser-
vice person should remove the cover
or attempt to service this device, due
to possible eye injury.

Preparation
ˆ
Preparation
You can power your CD player from
any of these sources:
• two AA alkaline batteries (not
supplied)
• two rechargeable AA nickel-cad-
mium batteries (RSU 11672508
not supplied)
• standard AC power using a regu-
lated AC adapter (not supplied)
• vehicle battery power using a DC
adapter (not supplied)
Note: Connecting a regulated AC or
DC adapter to the CD player when
non-rechargeable batteries are in-
stalled disconnects the batteries.
INSTALLING
BATTERIES
Your CD player requires two AA bat-
teries (not supplied) for power. For
the best performance and longest life,
we recommend RadioShack alkaline
batteries. You can also use recharge-
able nickel-cadmium batteries (RSU
11672508).
Cautions:
• Use only fresh batteries of the
required size and recommended
type.
• Do not mix old and new batteries,
different types of batteries (stan-
dard, alkaline, or rechargeable),
or rechargeable batteries of dif-
ferent capacities.
1. Press down and slide the battery
compartment cover in the direc-
tion of the arrow, then lift it up.
2. Place two AA batteries in the
compartment, as indicated by the
polarity symbols (+and –)
marked inside.
3. Replace the cover.
When “ýflashesýor the CD player
stops operating properly, replace the
batteries.
Warning: Dispose of old batteries
promptly and properly. Do not burn or
bury them.
Caution: If you do not plan to use the
CD player for a month or more, re-
move the batteries. Batteries can leak
chemicals that can destroy electronic
parts.
Charging Rechargeable
Batteries
This CD player can fully charge nick-
el-cadmium batteries (RSU
11672508) in about 17 hours. You
can play a CD while charging the

6Preparation
nickel-cadmium batteries; however,
this causes the batteries to charge
more slowly.
1. Connect an optional regulated
AC or DC adapter to the CD
player’s DC IN 4.5V jack. See
“Using AC or DC Power”.
2. After about 17 hours, unplug the
adapter and disconnect it from
the CD player’s DC IN 4.5V jack.
Caution: Do not overcharge the
batteries. Overcharging can sig-
nificantly reduce the batteries'
useful life.
Important: The EPA
certified RBRC®Bat-
tery Recycling Seal on
the nickel-cadmium (Ni-
Cd) battery indicates
RadioShack is voluntarily participat-
ing in an industry program to collect
and recycle these batteries at the end
of their useful life, when taken out of
service in the United States or Cana-
da. The RBRC program provides a
convenient alternative to placing used
Ni-Cd batteries into the trash or the
municipal waste stream, which may
be illegal in your area. Please call 1-
800-THE-SHACK (1-800-843-7422)
for information on Ni-Cd battery recy-
cling and disposal bans/restrictions in
your area. RadioShack’s involvement
in this program is part of the compa-
ny’s commitment to preserving our
environment and conserving our nat-
ural resources.
USING AC OR DC
POWER
To power the CD player from an AC
outlet or your vehicle’s battery power,
you need a regulated AC or DC
adapter and an Adaptaplug(neither
supplied, available at your local Ra-
dioShack store).
Cautions:
You must use a (Class
2 for AC) power source
that supplies 4.5V DC
and delivers at least 600 mA. Its
center tip must be set to positive
and its plug must fit the CD
player's
DC IN 4.5V jack. Using an
adapter that does not meet these
specifications could damage the
CD player or the adapter.
• Always connect the adapter to
the CD player before you plug it
into the power source, and
unplug the adapter from the
power source before you unplug
it from the CD player.
1. Insert the recommended Adapta-
plug adapter into the adapter’s
cord, setting TIP to +(positive).
2. Set the adapter’s voltage switch
to 4.5V.
3. Insert the adapter’s barrel plug
into the CD player’s DC IN 4.5V
jack.
!

7
Preparation
4. Plug the other end of the adapter
into a standard AC outlet or into
your vehicle’s cigarette lighter
socket.
5. When you finish using the
adapter, disconnect it from the
AC outlet or your vehicle’s ciga-
rette-lighter socket first, then
unplug it from the CD player.
Note: Always unplug the adapter be-
fore using the CD player with alkaline
batteries. Otherwise the player will
not operate.
CONNECTING
EARPHONES OR
HEADPHONES
You can listen to your CD player by
connecting the supplied head-
phones, optional earphones, or op-
tional amplified speakers to the
player’s
PHONES
jack.
Note: Your local RadioShack store
carries a wide variety of cable and
adapters.
For private listening, connect the sup-
plied headphones or optional ear-
phones with a 1/8inch (3.5 mm) plug
into the PHONES jack.
Listening Safely
To protect your hearing, follow these
guidelines when you use head-
phones.
• Set the volume to the lowest set-
ting before you begin listening.
After you begin listening, adjust
the volume to a comfortable
level.
• Do not listen at extremely high
volume levels. Extended high-
volume listening can lead to per-
manent hearing loss.
• Once you set the volume, do not
increase it. Over time, your ears
adapt to the volume level, so a
volume level that does not cause
discomfort might still damage
your hearing.
Traffic Safety
Do not wear earphones or head-
phones while operating a motor vehi-
cle or riding a bicycle. This can create
a traffic hazard and could be illegal in
some areas.
Even though some earphones and
headphones let you hear some out-
side sounds when listening at normal
volume levels, they still can present a
traffic hazard.

10 Operation
SUPER ANTI-SHOCK
SYSTEM (SAS)
Your CD player contains special cir-
cuits to overcome skipping problems
caused by shock or vibration. This
means you can listen to the CD play-
er anywhere you go or use it in your
vehicle.
When you turn on the anti-shock sys-
tem, the CD player continuously
saves the next 40 seconds of music
in memory. During a shock or vibra-
tion that would normally make a track
skip or pause, the CD player plays di-
rectly from memory. If the player is
subjected to shocks of over 40 sec-
onds duration, some interruption of
sound output will occur. This is nor-
mal. The sound resumes once the
shock subsides.
To turn on the anti-shock system
,
press ANTI-SHOCK. If a CD is playing,
the sound mutes for about 1 second,
then ]appears.
To turn off the anti-shock system
,
press ANTI-SHOCK again. The sound
briefly stops and ]disappears.
Note: While the SAS system provides
for continuous sound output when the

Troubleshooting
ˆ
Troubleshooting
With proper care and handling, your CD player should give you years of trouble-
free service. However, if your CD player is not working properly, follow these
suggestions to see if you can eliminate the problem. If you still have a problem,
take the CD player to your local RadioShack store for assistance.

14 Care
ˆ
Care
Keep the CD player dry; if it gets wet,
wipe it dry immediately. Use and
store the CD player only in normal
temperature environments. Handle
the CD player carefully; do not drop it.
Keep the CD player away from dust
and dirt, and wipe it with a damp cloth
occasionally to keep it looking new.
Modifying or tampering with the CD
player’s internal components can
cause a malfunction and might invali-
date its warranty and void your FCC
authorization to operate it. If your CD
player is not performing as it should,
take it to your local RadioShack store
for assistance.
CD CARE TIPS
Even though a compact disc is dura-
ble, treat the CD surface with care.
• Do not write on either side of the
CD, particularly the non-label
side (signals are read from the
non-label side).
• Do not store CDs in high temper-
ature or high humidity areas.
They might warp.
• Keep CDs dry. A water drop can
act as a lens and affect the laser
beam's focus.
• Always handle a CD by the
edges to avoid fingerprints and
always keep it in its protective
case or sleeve when it is not in
use. Fingerprints and scratches
on the CD's surface can prevent
the laser beam from correctly
reading the digital information. If
the CD gets scratched, use
RadioShack Scratch ‘n Fix to
repair the disc.
