Quick Start Guide for SPOT Satellite Messenger
POWER
SPOT uses a separate power button to ensure battery life.
•
Press the ON/OFF button to power on SPOT
•
Wait two seconds before using any SPOT function
•
The indicator light will blink every 3 seconds when SPOT is turned on
•
To power OFF press ON/OFF button for 3 seconds
CONTACTING 911 (LIFE THREATENING)
This will send a distress signal to the Emergency Call Center who will then notify the proper
emergency personnel to your location. They will also contact your emergency contact about
the receipt of an emergency signal.
NOTE: This feature will not work for organized special events, such as the SCORE
International Baja 1000.
To activate 911 services:
•
Press and hold the 911 button for 2 seconds
•
Indicator light will blink green every 3 seconds
•
Indicator light will be a solid green every time a message is sent
•
Messages are sent every 5 minutes
To Cancel 911 services
•
Press and hold 911 button for 3 seconds
•
Indicator light will blink red to show message cancellation
•
When the message has been sent the light will turn solid red for 5 seconds

ASKING FOR HELP (NON LIFE THREATENING)
This is for help in a non life-threatening situation. Your SPOT team will be notified by a text
and/or email message that contains a preprogrammed distress message along with a link to
Google Maps™ with your location.
To ASK FOR HELP
•
Press and hold the HELP button for 2 seconds
•
Indicator light will blink green every 3 seconds
•
Each time message is sent light will be solid green for 5 seconds
•
Messages are sent every 5 minutes for one hour
To Cancel
•
Press and hold HELP for 3 seconds
•
Indicator light will blink red to show message cancellation
•
When the message has been sent the light will turn solid red for 5 seconds
CHECK IN: SPOT CHECKING WITH GOOGLE MAPS™
This will alert your spot team that you are OK. Your SPOT team will be notified by a text
and/or email message that contains a link to Google Maps™ with your location.
TO CHECK IN:

Press and hold OK button
•
Indicator light will blink green every 3 seconds
•
Each time message is sent light will be solid green for 5 seconds

FOR 20 MINUTES****
SPOTcasting: AUTOMATIC 10-MINUTE TRACKING UPDATES
This feature will send your location to your SPOT account. Your SPOT TEAM can then track
your progress in real time or you can view your route at a later date.

Press and hold the OK button for more than 5 seconds
•
Indicator light will blink green every 3 seconds
•
Each time SPOTcasting is sent light will be solid green for 5 seconds
•
Exact location is updated every 10 minutes
•
MUST reactivate tracking feature after 24 hours to continue tracking progress
TO CANCEL TRACKING
•
Press and Hold OK button for 5 seconds to terminate tracking
•
Turn Spot off by pressing ON/OFF button for 3 seconds (This will turn SPOT OFF)
If Indicator light begins to blink out of unison the messenger cannot determine your GPS
coordinates. You must hold SPOT and provide a clearer view of the sky. When coordinates
have been acquired the lights will begin to blink in unison.
