Raptor 3D Scanner Build Manual
Warnings
The Raptor 3D scanner has motorized and moving parts and uses line lasers. When the 3D scanner
is in operation always be aware of possible hazards. A safe operation of the Raptor 3D scanner is
your own responsibility. Never leave the Raptor 3D scanner unattended.
Electric Shock Hazard
Insert and secure the power cord firmly for proper usage and to avoid potential electricity and fire
dangers. Do not attempt to touch or change anything inside before power down the 3D scanner. Always
power down the scanner and unplug the AC power cord if you need to work/check on the electric system.!
Laser Hazard
Never look directly into the Laser. Class 3A Laser. Direct contact with the eye for over two minutes may
cause serious damage to the retina. Make sure you position the laser in a safe spot and take all the
necessary precautions to avoid direct eye exposure to any human being or animal. Never leave the Raptor
3D scanner unattended. !
Fire Hazard
Do not use flammable chemicals or alcohol wipes to clean the Raptor 3D scanner. Never place any
flammable chemicals or liquids on or near the printer when powered on or in operation. Liquid acetone
and vapors are extremely flammable.!
Pinch Hazard
When the Raptor 3D scanner is in operation, take care to never put body parts (e.g. fingers) into the
moving parts (turntable). Make sure to tie back long hair or clothing that can get caught in the moving
parts of the 3D scanner.!
Static Charge
Make sure to ground yourself before touching the electronics unit. Electrostatic charges can damage
electronic components. Ground yourself by touching a grounded source before you work on the
electronics. You should be aware of the risk of electrostatic damage to the electronic components of this
kit, specifically the Raspberry Pi B+ board & A4988 Stepper Motor Driver. These components are fully
tested with the other electrical items before packing the kit, and wrapped in protective anti-static
packaging. Damage by electrostatic discharges during unpacking, assembly and normal use is not
covered under our warranty. !
Environment
Do not place the Raptor 3D scanner on an unbalanced or unstable surface. The 3D scanner may fall or
tumble causing harm and/or injury. Liquids and chemicals that fall into the 3D scanner can lead to 3D
scanner damage or safety risks.!
Age Warning
Do not let children (under the age of 18) operate the 3D scanner without adult supervision. Electric shock
hazard. Moving parts can cause serious injuries.!

General Instructions
Please carefully read these instructions before assembling your Raptor 3D scanner.
Checking the Parts
Unpack the kit and carefully verify that all parts have been supplied and none have been damaged during
shipping. To help you with this, an Illustrated Bill of Materials is available in the Appendix B on page 30 of
this Build Manual. We have prepared bags that correspond with the steps pointed out in this manual. Each
bag that comes with the kit has its own packaging list and all parts are carefully labeled. if you find any
Before you start assembling
Take your time and carefully read through each chapter of this build manual instructions to gain an idea of
what is involved and how much time it will take, before starting assembling. Work on a firm table or work
bench in a clean dry well-lit area. Observe tool safety and take anti-static precautions.!
Level of Skill
Building up the Raptor 3D scanner requires no advanced technical skills. The Raptor 3D scanner is
specifically designed to be a very easy to build 3D scanner. There is no soldering required during the
assembly of the 3D scanner as all connections are plug and play. The electronic unit has already been
prepared. You will need to flash the software to the Raspberry Pi B+, see page 24-25 of this Build Manual.
An internet connection is required. For connecting the electronics keep strictly to the instructions provided
in this Build Manual. Wrong installations can destroy your electronics. Make sure you have the necessary
technical skills to carry out the work, or enlist the help of someone who does!
Tools Required
No special tools are required assembling the Raptor 3D Scanner. You will only need some standard hex
keys and screw drivers.!
Technical Support
If you are having a technical question or run into any problem please contact:
[email protected]. We will always do our best to resolve any problems encountered. We
currently offer support in the following languages: English, German and Dutch. "
