General power tool safety warnings
WARNING! Read all safety warnings and all instructions. Failure to follow the warnings and
instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.
IMPORTANT! Save all warnings and instructions for future reference.
The term “power tool” in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded) power tool or battery-operated
(cordless) power tool.
Work area safety
•Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
•Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust.
Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
•Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose
control. Electrical safety
•Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with
earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce the risk of electric shock.
•Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is
an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
•Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of
electric shock.
•Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away
from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.
•When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable
for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.
•If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI)
protected supply. Use of an GFCI reduces the risk of electric shock.
Personal safety
•Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power
tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while
operating power tools may result in serious personal injury.
•Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment such as dust mask, non-
skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
•Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the OFF-position before connecting to power
source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the
switch or energizing power tools that have the switch on invites accidents.
•Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a
rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.
•Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times.
This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.
•Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving
parts. Loose clothes, jewelry or long hair can be caught in moving parts.
•If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure that these are
connected and properly used. Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards. Power tool use and care
•Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the
job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.
•Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled
with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
•Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or the battery pack from the power tool before making
any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the
risk of 5-English

starting the power tool accidentally.
•Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool
or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
•Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other
condition that may affect the power tool´s operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many
accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
•Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to
bind and are easier to control.
•Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into account
the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from those
intended could result in hazardous situations.
Battery tool use and care
•Recharge only with the charger specified by the manufacturer. A charger that is suitable for one type of
battery pack may create a risk of fire when used with another battery pack.
•Use power tools only with specifically designated battery packs.
Use of any other battery packs may create a risk of injury and fire.
•When battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects, like paper clips, coins, keys, nails,
screws or other small metal objects, that can make a connection from one terminal to another. Shorting the
battery terminals together may cause burns or a fire.
•Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from the battery; avoid contact. If contact accidentally occurs,
flush with water. If liquid contacts eyes, additionally seek medical help. Liquid ejected from the battery may
cause irritations or burns.
Service
•Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. This will
ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained.
Chain saw safety warnings
•Keep all parts of the body away from the saw chain when the chain saw is operating. Before you start the chain
saw, make sure the saw chain is not contacting anything. A moment of inattention while operating chain saws
may cause entanglement of you clothing or body with the saw chain.
•Always hold the chain saw with your right hand on the rear handle and your left hand on the front handle.
Holding the chain saw with a reversed hand configuration increases the risk of personal injury and should never
be done.
•Hold the power tool by insulated gripping surface only, because the saw chain may contact hidden wiring or its
own cord. Saw chain contacting a ”live” wire may make exposed metal parts of the power tool” live” and could give
the operator an electric shock.
•Wear safety glasses and hearing protection. Further protective equipment for head, hands, legs and feet is
recommended. Adequate protective clothing will reduce personal injury by flying debris or accidental contact with
the saw chain.
•Do not operate a chain saw in a tree. Operation of chain saw while up a tree may result in personal injury.
•Always keep proper footing and operate the chain saw only when standing on fixed, secure and level surface.
Slippery or unstable surfaces such as ladders may cause a loss of balance or control of the chain saw.
•When cutting a limb that is under tension be alert for spring back.
When the tension in the wood fibers is released the spring loaded limb may strike the operator and/or throw the
chain saw out of control.
•Use extreme caution when cutting brush and saplings. The slender material may catch the saw chain and
be whipped forward toward you or pull you off balance.
6-English

Original instructions
General power tool safety warnings
•Carry the chain saw by the handle with the chain saw switched off and away from your body. When transporting
or storing the chain saw always fit the guide bar cover. Proper handling of the chain saw will reduce the likelihood of
accidental contact with the moving saw chain.
•Follow instruction for lubricating, chain tensioning and changing accessories. Improperly tensioned or
lubricated saw chain may either brake or increase the chance of kickback.
•Keep handles dry, clean and free from oil and grease. Greasy, oily handles are slippery causing loss of control.
•Cut wood only. Do not use chain saw for purposes not intended. For example: do not use chain saw for cutting
plastic, masonry or non-wood building materials. Use of the chain saw for operations different than intended
could result in a hazardous situation.
•We strongly recommend that first time users practice sawing logs on a saw horse or cradle.
Causes and operator prevention of kickback
Kickback may occur when the nose or tip of the guide bar touches an object, or when the wood closes in and pinches
the saw chain in the cut. Tip contact in some cases may cause a sudden reverse reaction, kicking the guide bar up
and back towards the operator. Pinching the
saw chain along the top of the guide bar may push the guide bar rapidly back towards the operator. Either of these
reactions may cause you to lose control of the saw which could result in serious personal injury. Do not rely
exclusively upon the safety devises built into your saw. As a chain saw user, you should take several steps to keep
your cutting jobs free from accident or injury. Kickback is a result of tool misuse and/or incorrect operating
procedures or conditions and can be avoided by taking proper precautions as given below:
•Maintain a firm grip, with thumbs and fingers encircling the chain saw handles, with both hands on the saw and
position your body and arm to allow you to resist kickback forces. Kickback forces can be controlled by the operator,
if proper precautions are taken. Do not let go of the chain saw.
•Do not overreach and do not cut above shoulder height. This helps prevent unintended tip contact and
enables better control of the chain saw in unexpected situations.
•Only use replacement bars and chains specified by the manufacturer. Incorrect replacement bars and chains
may cause chain breakage and/or kickback.
•Follow the manufacturer’s sharpening and maintenance instructions for the saw chain. Decreasing the
depth gauge height can lead to increased kickback.
Before using a new chain saw
•Please read this manual carefully.
•Fully charge the battery before using it the first time. See instructions under the heading Charging the battery.
•Fill with chain oil. See instructions under the heading Filling with chain oil.
•Check that the cutting equipment is correctly fitted and adjusted. See instructions under the heading Assembly.
•Do not use the chain saw until sufficient chain oil has reached the chain. See instructions under the heading
Lubricating cutting equipment.
•Long-term exposure to noise can result in permanent hearing impairment. So always use approved
hearing protection.
WARNING!
Under no circumstances may the design of the machine be modified without the permission of the manufacturer.
Always use genuine accessories. Non-authorized modifications and/or accessories can result in serious personal
injury or the death of the operator or others. Your warranty may not cover damage or liability caused by the use of
non-authorized accessories or replacement parts.

Machine′s safety equipment
In this section the machine’s safety features and their function are explained. For inspection and maintenance see
instructions under the heading Checking, maintaining and servicing chain saw safety equipment. See instructions
under the heading, know your chain saw, to find where these parts are located on your machine. The life span of
the machine can be reduced and the risk of accidents can increase if machine maintenance is not carried out
correctly and if service and/or repairs are not carried out professionally. If you need further information please
contact your nearest servicing dealer.
WARNING!
Never use a machine with defective safety components. Safety equipment must be inspected and maintained.
See instructions under the heading Checking, maintaining and servicing chain saw safety equipment. If your
machine does not pass all the checks, take the saw to a servicing dealer for repair.
KICKBACK(see Fig.3-4)
WARNING!
Kickback may occur when the moving chain contacts an object at the upper portion of the tip of the guide bar or
when the wood closes in and pinches the saw chain in the cut. Contact at the upper portion of the tip of the guide
bar can cause the chain to dig into the object and stop the chain for an instant. The result is a lightning fast, reverse
reaction which kicks the guide bar up and back toward the operator. If the saw chain is pinched along the top of the
guide bar, the guide bar can be driven rapidly back toward the operator. Either of these reactions can cause loss of
saw control which can result in serious injury. Do not rely exclusively upon the safety devices built into the saw. As a
chain saw user, you should take several steps to keep your cutting jobs free from accident or injury.
•The following precautions should be followed to minimize kickback:
1.Always grip the saw firmly with both hands. Hold the saw firmly with both hands when the unit is running. Place
your right hand on the rear handle and your left hand on the front handle with your thumbs and fingers encircling the
chain saw handles. A firm grip together with a stiff left arm will help you maintain control of the saw if kickback
occurs.
2.Make sure that the area in which you are cutting is free from obstructions. Do not let the nose of the guide
bar contact a log, branch, fence, or any other obstruction that could be hit while you are operating the saw.
3.Always cut with the unit running. Fully squeeze the switch trigger and maintain cutting speed.
4.Use only the replacement guide bars and low kickback chains specified by the manufacturer for the saw.
•With a basic understanding of kickback, you can reduce or eliminate the element of surprise. Sudden
surprise contributes to accidents.
•Keep proper footing and balance at all times.
•Do not cut above shoulder height or overreach when cutting.
•Follow the sharpening and maintenance instructions for the saw chain

OPERATING YOUR CHAIN SAW
BASIC OPERATING/CUTTING PROCEDURES
Practice cutting a few small logs using the following technique to get the “feel” of using the saw before you begin
a major sawing operation.
•Take the proper stance in front of the wood with the saw idling.
•Press the switch lock and squeeze the switch trigger then release switch lock and let the chain accelerate to full
speed before entering the cut.
•Begin cutting with the saw against the log.
•Keep the unit running the entire time you are cutting, maintain a steady speed.
•Allow the chain to cut for you; exert only tight downward pressure. Forcing the cut could result in damage to the
bar, chain, or motor.
•Release the switch trigger as soon as the cut is completed, allowing the chain to stop. If you run the saw without a
cutting load, unnecessary wear can occur to the chain, bar, and unit.
•Do not put pressure on the saw at the end of the cut.
WORK AREA PRECAUTIONS (See Figure 15)
•Cut only wood or materials made from wood; no sheet metal, no plastics, no masonry, no non-wood building
materials.
•Never allow children to operate the saw. Allow no person to use this chain saw who has not read this
operator’s manual or received adequate instructions for the safe and proper use of this chain saw.
•Keep everyone –helpers, bystanders, children, and animals –a SAFE DISTANCE from the cutting area. During
felling operations, the safe distance should be a least twice the height of the largest trees in the felling area. During
bucking operations, keep a minimum distance of 15' (4.6 m) between workers.
•Always cut with both feet on solid ground to prevent being pulled off balance.
•Do not cut above chest height as a saw held higher is difficult to control against kickback forces.
•Do not fell trees near electrical wires or buildings. Leave this operation for professionals.
•Cut only when visibility and light are adequate for you to see clearly.
Fig.15
PROPER PROCEDURE FOR TREE FELLING (See Figure 16-19)
•Felling a tree —When bucking and felling operations are being performed by two or more persons, at the same
time, the felling operation should be separated from the bucking operation by a distance of at least twice the height
of the tree being felled. Trees should not be felled in a manner that would endanger any person, strike any utility
line or cause any property damage. If the tree does make contact with any utility line, the utility company should be
notified immediately.
